According to the broadcasts, there are two strains of the virus.

The first one began in the quarantine area, and is transmitted through bites and scratches. The second strain apparently mutated into airborne transmission, heavily increasing infection spread across the globe.

A percentage of the population, presumably including your playable character, is immune to the airborne transmission. Despite this, bites and scratches still infect everyone.

Or at least that's what I've gathered from the broadcasts, anyway.

As for the bite chances, I suppose it's possible to get bitten without saliva entering the wound. The bite could just barely break the skin, or the corpse could be decomposed enough to not have any fluids left around the mouth.

You can reload or rack your gun when driving.
If you can, please make sure you don't have the third hand to operate the steering wheel.

HeLL no man, ever heard of driving with 1 hand? I dont think the whole PZ community should suffer from not being able to reload while driving a car just because you dont like it.

    @Zorak
So far everyone loves the new build and I dont see too many people complain about difficulty.
The IWBUMS is a work in progress build where player are supposed to give feedback, right?
If you are fine how it is, thats your buisness, telling people to adapt etc because you dont see problems is really arrogant.
If players see or have issues its their right to write their opinion and the devs have to decide what they do with the given feedback.
I love hard games and Im satisfied with the direction Zomboid is going, but there are things which need fine tuning, thats not deniable.
Also I doubt you need to worry the game gets easy, If that is what let you panic, as I remember the devs already said this game will be really hard and unforgiving.

I don't really like the idea of splitting the game Into Survival, brawler and builder. It should all  be one balanced game rather than 3 different modes. Imagine if Dark souls did that, Easy,  medium or hard. It wouldn't be nearly as good if they did.

I say keep Survival, have it be insanely hard like you envisioned it to be like dark souls hard and just scrap the brawler and builder modes but maybe it's best to split it like this...  time will tell!

However Im very happy that crawlers causing panic to desentized characters was finally fixed! ^__^

Delightful experience. The gameplay feels much deeper overall and it's like playing for the first time all over again. I love the variety and atmosphere.

The main issue that has consistently stuck out to me is that controlling the character is much more of an ordeal-- It's almost like tank controls and the turning animations are really sluggish. There's also the issue of aiming changing your walking direction which has turned my attempts to glance around for danger into stumbling right at pursuers at the worst times. While I understand there are trade offs to be made from the old system, there's still definitely room for fine tuning this.

A very happy 4th of July to our survivors in the US!
The grand plan was to have a slick new vid for you today showing, amongst other things, the fixed-up anim-masking issue with the hovering props that we discussed last week.
Good news: it’s been fixed up as Zac has been back at the math(s)…
Bad news: it sadly came in too late for us to have time to do a bells/whistles video of all latest progress for today’s blog and a new Spiffo’s Round Up over on Steam.
(BUT OH WAIT – TURNS OUT A LAST MINUTE SURPRISE VIDEO WAS POSSIBLE! ENJOY! -ed)

So, here’s a still image to show it’s working at least! And sorry it’s going to be a boring blog today!
Elsewhere it’s been a really productive week on the internal Build 41 anims beta, but almost all of it in the form of fixes, balance and general improvement. The changelist is lengthy, but the content of it rather dull for anyone outside the coding team.
Something cool that’s been added is craftable spears and spear attacks, but elsewhere it’s been loads of more minor tasks covering the new cutaway system, pathfinding, footstep sounds, noisy dead zeds, indoor puddles, fixing the issues with radios that are currently in the public build, clipping, tree-chopping, bread knives, strafing, sprinting, turning circles, bite react anims, colour adjustments etc etc.
This is the way it’ll be for a few weeks now while we wait for Zac to drop in the rotational blends and MP work that we need before we IWBUMS – and (aside from the next one) you’ll see less and less ‘new stuff’ being shown in vids, and more and more general internal tester gameplay.
So apologies for the dulldoid – but there should be a tasty new vid fairly imminently to make up for it, now that Zac’s math(s) have come in once more to save the day.
Our thanks to everyone who left a review for us this past week, but most especially this survivor who goes into painstaking detail over how he very nearly shit himself (actually physically shit himself) while playing. Cheers all!
This week’s foggy meeting from [PAX]McMiller. A general list of stuff added to PZ, and vids of features being worked on, is kept here – so you don’t have to plough through endless dev blogs for info. The Centralized Block of Italicised Text would like to direct your attention to the PZ Wiki should you feel like editing or amending something, and the PZ Mailing List that can send blogs like this and patch notes direct to your mailbox. We also live on Twitter right here! Our Discord is open for chat and hijinks too!

I really like this idea, it would give more value towards the metalworker profession and give it more utility use (like the engineer's generator knowledge). At the moment metalworking feels like grindier carpentry, especially without forges to melt down metal items.

I don't think that preset factions would fit well in the game.

Rather than have these different factions form on their own in the exact same place every time, let the players influence just how territory changes hands and what factions form. Have the game start with no factions as the quarantine was just recently placed on the game area, and have NPCs/the player form them on their own over time.

Allows the player to feel their actions have direct consequence earlier on. Clearing an infested warehouse and coming back later to find bandits have set up shop is a more enriching experience than the warehouse having always had a preset group.
Deeper player agency as they discover what actions can be taken to ensure different consequences. For example, this could be helping someone badly hurt, and weeks later when they're the leader of a nearby group they might be more receptive to bartering. Instead of the prison always having a tough set of armed inmates, let the game decide what outcome happens. Say the prison always starts with a dozen inmates, and five guards. What are their traits? Upon world generation, the prisoners could all end up psychopathic, athletic brawlers that massacre the guards, or a mishmashed group of craven gardeners and hunters that are quickly put in check. This means several things:

The results add variety and depth to the prison area The player could arrive at the prison early and directly influence the outcome This allows for deeper consequences. You could help the prisoners take over, and then later they could ally with your own faction, or perhaps they just decide to terrorize the entire Rosewood area instead.
I think there's just too much to be explored with more RNG-decided factors, rather than preset factions.

I still hate how cars disappear out of your vision once you look the other way. This happens to no other big objects. Not to houses, not to furniture, not to garbage bins... but cars for some reason disappear. Yes, they can move around, but if I just parked a car outside my house, then I *know* it is there, even if I look the other way for a second. There should be either a delay, or just stop them from going invisible completely, even if they are behind a wall.

I asked awhile back what the different reaction symbols meant, and never got a straight answer. I've always thought they were a way of showing "like" or "dislike" for someones post - it'd be great if someone from the forum/dev staff could post a prominent sticky for what they mean, so we are all on the same page?

Other than pie from a dev meaning your report has been received, I don't think any of them have any particular meaning. Nor do I think they should! I love the ambiguity.

When you guys give the feedback we need instead of obsess over a slight lack of smoothness for UI elements, as explained everywhere.

But it'll be in the next patch regardless.  Costs about 10 - 15 fps on my setup, when set to "30" not quite fpses.
