Am I the only one who strongly dislikes the current UI? I mean it works, but to me it feels really clunky and looks bad... I just made a little concept of a new UI that would keep the current theme:

Just a little idea. The thing I dislike the most is the whole container part of the UI. At least the new crafting menu was recently added, so that was a huge step forward.

Characters will get used to panic and lose panic VERY fast, if survived for a decent amount of time.
Eating fresh things like salad, fruits etc. will increase your fitness.
Doing the opposite, eating chips and chocolate, will decrease your fitness.
Leveling up your nimble skill increases your ,,vision field".
Doing activities like running, fighting zombies, will affect your character. There were added two special bars for seeing your status in the skill panel.

on another hand, i can picture numerous threads asking why they could not fly to the other side of the river, or a different area without zombies....or griping that they ran into the maps borders and could not go past it.

i guess that brings up the subject of getting it to work on mod maps too.

i dunno, may be more trouble than it is worth, without knowing whether the engine would even tolerate it, or how they would make it look like it is actually above the ground.

If you start the game a year or more after the apocalypse I think that you should get a different list of professions to choose from. These new professions would provide you with a solid skill set you have used to survive this long.
You have forgot all about your old life as a ........ Now your a professional survivor.
    Runner-
Fast and silent. Great at looting and avoiding trouble.
    Stalker-
Hunting and wilderness survival. Goes into the woods and brings back dinner.
    Slayer-
Blunt, blade and brave. Daily skull smasher and tough nut.
    Enforcer-
Guns Guns Guns. Provide protection and disposes of friends and foes if necessary.
    Doc-
Medical aid. Everyone's new best friend.
    Fixer-
Repairs, electric's, engine's. Keeping things going and making things better.
    Builder-
Wood work and more. Why have a house when you can have a fort?
    Cleaner-
Sorting stores and cooking. Making you house feel like a home.
    Loner-
Well rounded. Had to learn it all the hard way.
They could also get a starter kit with related items.
Had to sum them all up to avoid a mega wall of text

Now, I understand these are tiny issues, but they have bugged me for a long time.

I live in the US and there are a few issues with the vocabulary and items that detract from the "I'm an American living in the Southern Midwest" vibe.

First, Americans call a "spade" a "shovel."  I understand they are two words for the same thing, but it is true.
EDIT: It was illustrated in this thread that a spade and shovel are two different things, but the in-game art is in fact a shovel.

Second, few Americans have any idea what remoulade is.  It would be more realistic as tartar sauce. While a form of remoulade, it is significantly more common in the US.

Third, almost every American household has ketchup and the rarity of this item is disproportionate, especially when compared to remoulade.

Fourth, I've admittedly never left the country, but here in the US pickles are almost exclusively sold in jars. And, as such, it is my opinion that they should leave an empty jar behind.

I appreciate everything the devs are doing, I really like the direction this game has been going, and I understand there is a lot on their plates.  Thanks for taking the time to read my short rant, I'll update with anything else I happen to find.

EDIT: Also, there should also be sounds from cooking popcorn.  Potentially, cooking in general creates smells that attract zombies.

EDIT (again): Also, in the US a 'vest' is called either a 'tank top' or and 'A-shirt' (less common).

Migoxiss reacted to Jericoshost in Diagnosis and Injury Re-vamp
I have been playing a bit on MP and SB, and have noticed a few things about first aid and I have thought of a few improvements that would benefit game play in SP and MP, especially after animals and NPC's are added. Though these will still have immediate benefits.

    First:
Wider array of injuries and diseases.
Animal bites, ragged wounds, piercing injuries, Deep wounds, and more diseases.
Some of these are planned, but I'm mentioning them for this idea.
Ragged wounds would have a higher chance of infection and take longer to heal.

    Second:
    Diagnosis and (Importantly) Misdiagnosis
The higher your first aid skill, the easier it is to diagnose injuries and illness. As well diagnosing through bandages (Auto success on self) on others with higher level.
Now onto the part which will add SO much fun and depth to the importance of the first aid skill:

    Misdiagnosis:
Is it a dog bite, or a zombie bite? Were they stabbed with a screwdriver, or shot? That wound is really ragged, I'm not sure if it came from a window or a dog, or could it be a zombie bite?

Right now, any player can 'check for wounds' and in a few seconds immediately know everything that has happened to a person.
I'm no doctor, but I think a person with little to no experience with medicine (Especially extreme and bloody wounds seen in the apocalypse that are not often seen pre-apoc) is going to have a hard time discerning one wound from another, especially a very rough and ragged one.
Remember, even trained Doctors can make a misdiagnosis, and they have training and access to the internet for references. It takes years of experience to get good at it, and even then mistakes are made.

You might think an animal bite and z bite would look different, you can look up human bites and see the teeth.
However the difference is typically a human bite is to cause pain and they won't try to rip flesh off, a zombie will bite and rip and tear into the flesh much like an animal trying to eat.
An amateur diagnos-ee could be easily confused and/or make a mistake.

And diagnosing a sickness? Without a medical history, a reference system, or blood work?
The person has all the symptoms of a flu, but the infection is the same in early stages.

    And the fun part:
Imagine in MP or SP a person or NPC is wearing a ski-mask or something to hide his/her ID while they rob safehouses, a victim shoots them and they flee.
You got stabbed by a screw driver or a spike or maybe even tripped over a branch in the woods, and have a peircing wound (A small, round hole.) The players hold you at gunpoint and diagnose you, the PC in question has a low First Aid Skill and misdiagnosis the wound as a gunshot.

You find an NPC/PC with the electrician job who can run generators, but they have a rough wound (Which is just a mess, harder to diagnose and heal) you try to diagnose and your PC thinks it's a bite. What do you do? Waste Medicine on someone who could just die anyways, or use medicine on someone who could be a huge help later? What if you are wrong?

And as well higher levels make it easier to diagnose a bandaged wound. Being covered would make it harder to diagnose.

And finally, very important: The ability to diagnose yourself.
There have been a number of times I take off a bandage thinking I'm healed (Status: OK, no pain, bandage is still clean) only to find out I'm still bleeding and rushing to grab a new clean bandage.

So what does everyone think about this? Leave a message if you like it, I hope somebody on staff see's and likes!

Edit: Maybe when you remove something from a wound, you keep the bloody -thing- as proof?

Also from Asparagus, diagnosing the dead to figure out how someone died. Murder or accident?
Be especially neat if an NPC diagnosed a dead friend and mis-diagnosed them.

I think that it should have more of an affect than just slowing down transferring stuff.
    Things like-
    disrupted sleep.
    More prone to illness.
Lose the ability to do complex tasks because you can't be bothered or focus.
    Learn skill points slower.
    Have negative effects with NPCs.
I can put up with a bit of a slow transfer speed so there needs to be more negative affects I think.

    -SWAT truck

Migoxiss reacted to Deuce in So the Organized trait...
I did some more testing and discovered that the Organized trait is even better for log transportation than I previously thought.

With the Organized trait, you are able to fit eight logs (two bundles) in even a Normal Hiking Bag.  Without the Organized trait you are unable to fit eight logs in even the Big Hiking Bag.  You can also equip two NHBs with eight logs apiece if you have at least 15 base carry weight.

You can also manage to equip 3 Big Hiking Bags fully loaded with a total of 24 logs if you can manage to get your carry weight to 15.  Obviously you are unable to equip weapons doing this and can't really afford to carry too much spare gear with you, but this is still incredibly useful for transporting large amounts of lumber around.

Here is the character build I came up with to test Organized out, it is also pretty viable for a Survival build if you wish to get into Carpentry:

    Log Moving Carpenter Build

    Profession - Carpenter

    Bad Traits
        High Thirst +6
        Prone to Illness +4
        Hemophobic +3
        Weak Stomach +3

    Good Traits
        Outdoorsman -2
        Lucky -4
        Organized -6
        Stout -6

    Base Carry Weight: 15

Migoxiss reacted to PorcelainLabs in Snack Attack Free on Android and iOS!
    Hello Everyone!

We are Porcelain Labs from Brisbane, Australia and we are proud to announce that we've just released our first game Snack Attack!

The game was developed in part with hiQu Dental, a dental clinic from Townsville, Australia, for their website as a short, but enjoyable dental related game about squashing nasty snacks like chocolate and soda that try to take your teeth away. We managed to get the go ahead to port the game for mobile devices and so here we are!

Player's have five rounds to squash as many snacks and collect as many coins as they can within the time limit so they can get the biggest score! Players can also purchase perks in between rounds using the coins they collected so that they can get a leg up when things get tough. The game also comes with a fantastic cute cartoon art aesthetic and an endless mode to the game for the hardcore players who love their snack squashing mayhem and want to show their friends how long they can last!

Snack Attack is a free to play title for both Android and iOS devices or you can purchase the premium version of the game if you'd like to support the developers

We would love it if you could check out the game and leave a rating or a comment! Let us know what you think of it. We also have a trailer for the game that you can check out as well

Migoxiss reacted to EreWeGo in On Horde Migration and Zombies post 32.
Although not disagreeing with the concept of the migrating horde, I think we need to look at some other factors first. After reading your post, my first impression is that maybe the problem is you don't have enough reason to take the risk to go on raids to more populated areas? If you're basically self-sustained, then yes, the game is going to become somewhat easy, and likely boring without any other threats, but if a player has been careful, smart, and even lucky to get to that point, I imagine it may be a little annoying for some to know that a horde is going to find you eventually, regardless of what they do.

Determining where there might be an issue may be more beneficial than immediately looking at the zombie migration - is it too easy to farm for instance, should you be able to "roof farm", or should you only be able to use planters/containers when growing on roof tops, which could limit your harvest amounts?

Just curious, is this survival you're playing? If so, what professions/traits have you been selecting? Is part of the problem that those areas still need balancing?

Anyway, like I said, I'm not against the ideas you've posted, I just think we need to look at other areas as well to make sure the problem can't be resolved by balancing other parts of the game. (Also, although a way off, additions like NPCs may well have a huge impact the game, and possibly situations like you've described)

Back when my line of work was a lot more journalist-y I’d do a lot of interviews with Executive Producers, Senior Marketing Vice Presidents and all other manner of other glorified mouth-pieces for the big publishers. Whenever they brought out the old “of course, we’re doing this for the community – they’re who matter!” line I’d start to roll my eyes. I wouldn’t stop rolling them until I’d asked my killer ‘DLC plans?’ question.

I don’t want to be like that guy – the guy who talks about the value of a game’s community without once visiting it, and praises it as a part of some bullshit boardroom checklist.

Without Project Zomboid’s community (without you - the person reading this – whether you’re a lurker or a regular) times could’ve been so much darker. We owe you a ‘thank you’ so massive it’s almost impossible to deliver. Your testing, your enthusiasm, your friendship, your shared passion for the game… it means more than I can convey in a simple forum post.

I’m not going to whitewash the bad stuff. Two years ago TIS self-inflicted some wounds from which it took an age to recover and gave ruffians ample room to play, and I know that the fabled ‘winter of no content’ was tough on us all. (I don’t think we ever answered the question of what constitutes a ‘white knight’ and what constitutes a ‘troll’, but we certainly seemed to get closer to the answer than most…)

So, before the Steam Early Access launch potentially stirs things up, I wanted to say thank you. To our moderators, to our regulars, to our lurkers, to our critics, to our fans, to those who dip in and out… everyone. Thanks for giving a shit about our zombie game.

Speaking on behalf of all of the Indie Stone, all of our contributors and anyone else who’ve found themselves strapped onto this rollercoaster for the past couple of years – it wouldn’t have been the same without you, and it’s entirely possible that it couldn’t have happened at all.

We’re really appreciative, and we’ll always do our best to do right by you – however we can.

You started this. You incubated the PZ infection.  You'll forever have our thanks.
