You can help test the easy host-a-game feature in Project Zomboid!
This is available on a branch called onlinetest with beta password hailkingspiffo. (Right click Project Zomboid -> Properties -> Betas tab)

    Coop FAQ

    Here's how it works:
There's a new button called HOST on the main screen, click it. This takes you to a new screen where you can (if you want) edit settings for the server, or just leave the defaults for a typical Survival-type experience. Choose the amount of memory for the server. Click the START button.  This will start the server using the settings you chose (or the default if you didn't choose any settings). Once the server has finished loading, you'll automatically join the server.  There is no need to enter a username or password.  Your username is your Steam profile name. Now that you're in-game, press Escape to go back to the main menu, and click the INVITE FRIENDS button. Invite any of your friends that are currently online.  They will get a notification through Steam chat that they have been invited.
If you receive an invite to join a co-op server, simply click the link in Steam chat.  The game will launch if it wasn't running already.  You'll automatically join the co-op server.  There's no username or password needed.

Congratulations Indie Stone forum member. You have been promoted to official tester of Project Zomboid.

As such, you will now have access, if you should so desire, to much more frequent, but likely or potentially much more broken versions of the game, if indeed this is of interest to you.

So say hello to the 'iwillbackupmysave' branch of PZ. This will be updated with builds as soon as we feel we can safely make them public, to aid us in finding remaining issues before it is rolled out to eveyone.

Anyone who wants to share details on how to get on this branch, please respect our wishes and forward people to this post and insist it is read in full before any downloading commences.

Before participating, please read the following bullet-points and scream I AGREE at the top of your voice at the screen:

I accept by playing the game on this branch, at some point I am almost certainly going to hit crippling bugs, and potentially lose progress or worlds. I will therefore back up any saves I deem important (located in C:/Users/<Username>/Zomboid on windows systems, HD:/Users/<Username>/Zomboid on Mac, and /home/<Username>/Zomboid/ on linux. I will not get angry or complain of any bugs, or balance, or changes, or remark that 'this build is more buggy than the last one!' or similar - That is the entire reason it's on this branch. If I have problems with the final build as released to the main branch, then of course a bad review is perfectly valid if the game has not lived up to my expectations. However, I accept that negative reviews with justification based on the stability, or otherwise non-final status of IWBUMS builds will be justifiably flagged. If I encounter problems, I will either wait until the final build, or discuss my thoughts and concerns civilly on the forums so the final build has the opportunity to address my concerns. I will title my streams and/or videos accordingly, stating that the shown build is a work in progress and part of the IWBUMS beta branch. I know what the console log is, and on the event of a crash I know to post the text therein on this forum, and not just say 'it crashed!' Right. We good?

Right click Project Zomboid in your Steam library and select "Properties". Navigate to the Steam Beta tab and select the "iwillbackupmysave" beta branch from the dropdown.

    No password is required.

    GIF Instruction for Steam:

For Build 41, it does not matter if you subscribe to the "build41" beta or "iwillbackupmysave". The two are identical.

    GIF Instructions for GOG Galaxy:

The Linux users of GOG will be able to access beta branches through the offline installers in the Downloads section for PZ in your library.

The IWBUMS branch allows us to have much wider and faster feedback on general updates, while allowing us to concentrate on wider more in-depth, focused and crucially less time-pressured/demanding testing with the testing team. Hurrah!
          Extra reading
Still here? Awesome! So, if you run into a bug, the best thing to do is to either report it on our bug forum. If you've a spare 10 minutes, give this a read. It explains how to report problems in a way that can let us help you easily. (Seriously, please read it. Please. Pretty please. With Pink sugar icing on top.)

If you can, always post your console.txt file. On Windows, you can find this in C:\Users\Username\Zomboid (Where Username is your windows username). On Mac and Linux it'll be in your /home/username/Zomboid/ folder.

Allo, all! For our upcoming appearance at EGX we're going to be doing a small print run of PZ posters, and we'd like some feedback regarding what size people might want   If these sell well, we'll look into printing more and/or expanding what merchandise we sell.

These will be high-quality prints, btw, not the thin kind. Giclee print on 240gsm Poster paper.

Here is a small preview of what they'll look like:

The thought of PZ being finished is as exciting as it is scary. Seeing what else you guys make is gonna be amazing, but Project Zomboid is so awesome, and part of that is because it's always growing, always changing. I know it's selfish to want PZ to be developed forever, but I've just really fallen in love with this game. The game's definitely going to be incredible when it finishes, and I can't wait for that. I guess I just never want to stop loving PZ.

I hate global karma systems, they make no sense, how the hell does the world know I killed this one random NPC and his pet dog in his house when nobody saw that?
I'm all for a system where NPCs can hunt you if you killed their friend/love/family/dog, ate the contents of their fridge, slept on their couch and left the door open when you left and they know it's you because they saw that, maybe spread the news around you on a small scale between them and their group but if I'll see a global karma system in PZ I'll flip out.
Imagine killing some NPCs in a house and a month later bumping into a guy who's family was killed by a bandit, you did that, he doesn't know that, that's awesome. Now imagine if you kill some NPCs family, again, no witnesses, and the next day you have a group of armed NPC SJW outside your window who want you dead because your in-game karma value is currently -100
Thank god I think devs mentioned there won't be a global karma system.

This is something I've wanted to say for a while, and something everyone should remember when getting frustrated by the delay to the NPCs.

We started development of this game in early 2011. It's our baby and has literally consumed some 80%+ of my waking life (probably similar for the others) since 2011. We've had our lows (and some lows at that) and we've had our highs. The community we've built is incredible, and the love and pride we have for the game and community is immense. But...

This game has been in development for over four years now, and that is a long time for your life to be consumed by one thing (This goes way beyond 9-5 job levels). We'd never ever abandon PZ before it's the game we set out to make, but that's not to say we're not tired, worn out, and missing that feeling of working on something new. As well as the rewards, of which we are very grateful, PZ has taken its toll. Even when the day finally comes that some of us move on, as we've said before, we'd continue to support development of PZ for as long as it makes the money to support itself, and likely even some time after that. But there is that ache there for the truly fun and exciting feeling of exploring new ideas and the potential and wonder of a new game, an ache that strikes every developer and truth be told is years old at this point. I hope we score points for resisting it.

But we won't and can't even think about other projects seriously, even if we dabble in our spare time. It's too dangerous to even think about because we can't have any distractions as we need to deliver the full map, the vehicles, the NPCs, before we can hit 1.0. At the point PZ goes 1.0, a few of us will likely finally be able to explore what's next after PZ, and we hope our community is looking forward to whatever we do next too. As I said before, to reiterate, we'd make sure PZ was well supported as we don't want the day to come when PZ stops getting new content. I don't want to presume what the devs we've taken in from the community would like to do post 1.0, but I imagine PZ would continue with long standing devs the community knows and trusts to steer the ship straight, and of course even if working on something else we'd still be heavily involved.

So I guess around to my point: I know waiting for NPCs is hard. I know they keep getting pushed back, seem vapourware at this point, and trust me I want NPCs out there more than any single one of you, by a factor of like 10000000. I know many of you are patient, I know a few aren't, but I also know their impatience is a good sign as to how much people care. I also know that these NPCs are one of the most ambitious NPC systems in the history of games. It feels arrogant to say as much but I can't really argue against that statement. I'm aware of what we're biting off here. I'm totally confident we can do it, but the fact is after this huge delay we HAVE to deliver, and we HAVE to deliver something brilliant. So that's ironically the reason for the delay. They won't be released until they are brilliant. It's as simple as that. I don't want to say NPC development is a nightmare, because it is also wonderful and exciting in equal measure, but it's a shit ton of pressure that is on around the clock. It only makes me want to weep with sympathy imagining what GRR Martin is going through with the sheer monstrous scale of pressure on his shoulders compared to ours.

BUT. This is a good thing. Not for us, but for you. Why? Right now, EVERY member of the Indie Stone is working full time on PZ. We need to provide you with stuff, meaty content, to keep you happy, interested, and to improve the game in the meantime while we get our shit together with the NPCs and whatnot. We can't have 6 months or a year of no updates while we tick off our last remaining big bullet point planned features. We can't go 1.0 until NPCs are in. If that took a gazillion years that means a gazillion years of updates and support for PZ. If you think of all the many many great features that have been added into the game in the past couple of years since NPCs were removed. A lot of them would have made it in anyway, of course, but many of them may not have been.

As we say, we don't plan on abandoning PZ at any point in the forseeable future. But the fact still remains, that when NPCs, or Vehicles, or the completed map, go into the game, the longer they took, and the more delays and frustrations they had in getting here, they WILL go in. And if they take a long time: The game they will be dropped into will end up better, more feature rich and deep because of it. All the while having the entire Indie Stone dev team dedicated to the game with zero distractions.

So yeah. Brain dump, but its a point of view I wanted to share with you all. hope you don't hate us for dreaming of new adventures at some point in the future.

for several weeks I've had my character living upstairs in a rural house with the staircase destroyed. All has been quiet and pleasant so I started constructing a large log wall incorperating the neighboring house into a small little fortress. Since building the wall, I've noticed that zombies are attracted to it like bugs to a zap light.

I knew i was not making more noise than usual, knew I wasn't leaving windows open or giving other cue's to my location. Eventually I discovered that zombies just latch onto breakable objects and destroy them for no reason. Can we change this in the future? at least as a sandbox option?

Zombies, especially traditional proper zombies like what zomboid seems to seek to replicate shouldn't do anything without cause except amble around. I'm okay with zombies banging down the walls if I made a mistake, ran my generator too loud, or was seen entering the fort....but 30 zombies just picking a random wall to bang on simply because it can be destroyed? why?

njstolte reacted to J0hnm13 in Another idea to balance the abundance of post-shutoff water.
The problem: When the water shuts off, you still have near endless water from all the fixtures, which many people seem to be complaining about, and for good reason.

The solution: Sinks need to be filled manually by the player before they store water for the shutoff. Toilets still come pre-filled but with dirty water. You only have extra clean water from the sinks you've gotten to already and you need to boil the toilet water. For showers, realistically the amount of water left in the pipes of disabled fixtures wouldn't fill a small glass in real life.
Different fixtures would interact uniquely too, for instance the water coolers in office buildings only have a finite amount of clean water from the start but can be refilled for later storage (even after shutoff). Thoughts?

We are getting off topic but have you played on pvp servers? Not to bandit even but to have that threat and the other new thrills of player interactions. PM me if you want a server recommendation. I agree single player can feel monotonous but run through bandit town, struggle to keep other friendlies hidden and alive, run a medic to injured players etc MP has taken this game to new levels in my opinion

    Volume 1.
12 hours after the outbreak the ever-growing epidemic spreads throughout Westpoint and beyond. The situation is getting worse as the recently deceased are returning to life. A few weeks into the outbreak The Mayor of WestPoint and he's bodyguard Terry find refuge in Bedford with a small group and begin trying to survive.

    Volume 2.
The Mayor is gone but the group continues to go on. Bryce and Rob Wallace have taken over leading the group and are using the Mayors idea with being walls around their homes. They built a safe paradise around a small empty neighborhood in Westpoint. The only danger they meet now is on food runs, but that's about to change as one of the new survivors is not what he seems.
This Volume also shows the conclusion to Dr Webb continued experiments on his family.
