@RobertJohnson I appreciate the kind words but that is not what I am trying to say.

I can survive with the current system, but the whole trunk replacement system is just extremely inconsistent and doesn't make logical sense.

I'd be willing to say "I'm fine with this" to just having trunk swaps be between compatible vehicles, but the implication that you are going to take the trunk compartment from a sedan and use it in a station wagon is the equivalent of removing space from the station wagon and stuffing in a container for basically no reason, while removing the rest of the space from the wagon.

I'm with you on not making it overly complex but the level of detail here is highly inconsistent, trunk customization should only be for applicable vehicles, not cars that don't use separate compartments at all. Vehicles where the trunk should be a set space and not removable/swappable: Van, Stepvan, Pickup (and pickup with the shell), Station wagon). Everything else, yeah, okay, but not those vehicles, as it is illogical, counterproductive and removes individuality from those specific vehicles.

The logic issue is that these vehicles do not have separate compartments for storage, therefore can't be removed and can't be replaced. This isn't even that it's weird to car guys, it just doesn't make sense overall.

I just have the simple request of not be able to read in the dark or craft complex stuff in the dark.

Light sources should be something you want and at the same time you fear, i barely see people using flashlights while raiding and the ONLY time i seen flashlights uses are when making lamp posts, batteries would become a valuable commodity as candles would.

    Talking about stable builds:
Build 38 is the current one with all dem features about roof stuff, dead bodies and dirty clothes making you sick and all that jazz.
Build 39 is probably going to be vehicles.
Build 40 is going to be features of vehicles (repair, damage, vehicle upgrades).

So dont expect animations any time soon, build 41 could be other feature set so dont think that after build 40 we might see them in build 40+.

As a guy who has worked in an auto shop and also lives with people of all three skills, no, a mechanic skill would take priority over all of them for having much more to do in the real world than both combined. Mechanical skills as a whole involve the other two to some degree but do not by any means blanket-cover even half of the things it takes to fix a car.

You absolutely need electricians and metalworkers if you are building a structure. However, once the job is done, it's off to find another job, and jobs aren't always plentiful. Cars always need to be worked on. Tires need to be filled, rotated, replaced. Oil changes need to be made regularly. Car fluids for various important systems... oil, transmission, even the wiper fluid and others is important to keep an eye on, as unfortunately vehicles don't self-regulate and maintain them themselves.

Transportation is important. Welding is useful, and is also used in automotive applications... but not regularly, as hammering dents out and fabrication isn't exactly a welding skill as it takes vehicle-based knowledge. The electrician skill is also connected, but not as much in any place where either of them could remotely cover what it takes to fix a car.

Let's say a headlight goes out and you have no idea what's wrong. Do you call a welder? Do you call an electrician? Or do you call a mechanic? An electrician might be able to say "hey, that' could be a broken filament"... but how does the electrician get to the bulb to know that? A mechanic would know how to take out the headlight and remove it, as it isn't as easy as reaching your hand inside the engine compartment and unscrewing it like you would with a conventional lightbulb. It could be deduced by looking at the headlight from both sides and having the know-how to piece together what needs to be done to remove the headlight, but wouldn't be a quick deduction to somebody who has never done it before, and is worried about damaging other components in the process. That's actually the most generous example I can think of because completing an oil change, replacing and rotating tires, and replacing mostly any part in a car could not be done solely on both forms of knowledge.

Would a metalworker or electrician know how to complete an oil change, rotate tires, tune the timing, etc.? I certainly didn't learn any of those in woodshop, welding class, or the electricity unit in science, but I did in an auto shop. Rebuilding an engine is a lot more complicated than some would think.

That would be the why-not for having it solely be a metal-electro combination.

My point is, it wouldn't fit in a game that claims to be realistic since neither of the skills cover any of the knowledge needed to complete most basic repairs to a vehicle. There is ways to flesh those two out that don't involve cutting a skill that is plenty common to see and also totally relevant to maintaining a vehicle.

IMO car spawns are to "clean", all of them are nicely parked. I miss some abandoned cars mid road, car barricades across the road. In general its too clean for zombie apocalypse.

PS. Random item spawn at car trunks would be great !

I don't like multiplayer ( beyond providing an experience for others ), so I want a crafted sp experience, even if the NPCs don't ultimately rise up against mankind.

They just have to be better than what's on the market today (about equivalent to the 2012 iteration). Though I'll reserve judgement until they're back in, if anyone can do it, it'll be the TIS team. Deity love them for actually caring enough to try to be better.

Mafia 1 had vehicles where you needed to change gears, if you were driving uphill, you were fucked if you were not in 1 or 2nd gear.

Mafia 2 had a speed limiter that lets you chose the speed you wanted to go in the speed gauge, maybe PZ could have something like that?

Seriously the roof update is nice and all since i can see what the buildings look like now, but there is no reason whatsoever to have the roof cover your character and give you a very small hole of view to work with, going into a gas station was stuff of nightmares because i couldnt tell what was in front of me or where the damn pumps were in mere seconds of looting.

In my opinion they need to remove having the roof covering your line of sight of your character, i just cant stand it.

As much as i would love to see the damn animations out, right now they have their hands full of everything.

Vehicles seems to have been stagnated for updates right now and they MAY merge into IWBUMS next month or so when they are a bit more stable and the current IWBUMS seems to have broken some stuff while introducing more broken stuff like the flies bug and they really need to rebalance the whole corpse smell killing you and the rooftops that dont let you see anything when you walk under them.

Both of that is very heavy and hard to balance and fix already, they will get it right eventually but imagine adding on top of all of that the animations that no doubt will be broken and will cause a chaos of low FPS, breaking the game and all kinds of shenanigans.

Better to wait to clean up both IWBUMS and then wait and see what happens with the animations.

Player populations have really been struggling lately and I'd love to see animations hopefully spike them back into activity.

    New build released:

    1) Zombie collision improved. (Formerly holding down ‘W’ key meant zombies reacted less. Driving into zombies without acceleration had more impact.)
    2) Fixed: Crafting UI on Electronics tab results in error.
    3) Fixed: Fire on-screen results in error.
    4) Fixed: Possible to press E and W while in the car and it will start when the character exits.
    5) Fixed: Car will keep running, and engine noise will follow player.
    6) Fixed: “If I'm in the car OR outside the car attempting to interact with the radial menu (keyboard V) then I sometimes become locked in the vehicle. I cannot turn the vehicle off or exit the vehicle - with E or with radial menu. The only fix is to quit the game and reload. The game doesn't show any errors when this happens.”
    7) Fixed: Fuel Exploit. (You could still refuel a car after the electricity shut-off, then use an empty gas can to get the fuel out of the car, then refuel the car again)
    8) Fixed: Player can read a skill book while driving.
    9) Fixed: Car info window can't be closed while driving. Have to come to a full stop to close it.
    10) Fixed: Burnt out cars can be rammed and made to slide. Should be ‘heavier’. Some also bounce on spawn.
    11) Fixed: In Local Co-Op I found that when both players are in the car, very often the cars simply won't collide with any walls or objects and instead just NoClip through them.
    12) Object synchronization code is improved. All street lights go out immediately when electricity is lost.

I have a Taxi model done, it's essentially a NormalCar with a taxi sign and advert board on the roof. It needs Mash to do her texturing magic but it'll be for a future update, we've got a core set of vehicles that need tieing into the game properly.

Once that's done we can take stock and decide what other vehicles we want to add. There are some other vehicles already in a WIP state but we need to weigh game balance, lore, engine performance etc. before they get finalised.

Why not starting by saying that the chopper is coming?

In the news we see that they set up the perimeter and shit around day 5-7 and they mention the helicopters flying low, but there must be a way to make sure the player watches the TV and sees that the helicopters are going to enter the zone just as a heads up.

I guess the problem relies on that there is no direct way to convey that the helicopter means death to the player until it happens and that the player wont know how to exploit it.

Maybe Baldspot could cover as a tutorial that the helicopter will bring a horde up and about with you watching from inside the house a NPC running by followed by the helicopter and begin followed by a horde.

@Snaiper has a really good post in https://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php?/topic/20738-build-38-and-beyond-small-but-important-suggestions-thread/&page=18 that summarize a lot of people's issues with the gameplay change part of not being able to see behind buildings.

Unfortunately this just simply goes beyond wanting to see zed (that part is fine) simply wanting to see where you would be going as you approach these walls is probably more important than having your view blocked by a second floor.

It may not be what you were going for, but perhaps a useful compromise to these issues would be to have it so the roof viewing does not happen when the player is facing a building that is within the eyesight range, and will return to the regular multi-level view when they are looking away or if the building is too far away (out of the eyesight range).
