Blasted_Taco reacted to nolanri in Survivors Mod
I probably wont go as far as to have them intelligently surviving on their own such as doing things like looting their own food etc.  But I can certainly make them vocalize their needs for food / water etc.  I just have not yet because in my experience, my survivor friends rarely last long enough to ever need food or water... but maybe that's because I really don't try hard to keep them alive and abandon them at first sign of trouble.... lol?

And yes it works with cars. but of course they survivors wont drive the cars or get in your car.  And be careful not to run over your survivor friends because it will insta kill them.

Other survivors will spawn as you explore the map, many will fall to the hordes and die, but some may join you, and others may try to kill you!

All of the major problems/bugs are more or less sorted out now, and the mod is very playable.

    Some known problems include:
-Occasional crashing from java side error in player update function.  Sometimes it almost never happens for hours, but other times it seems to happen frequently.
-If you are using mouse and keyboard, the survivor will be forced into "facing" the direction of your mouse whenever you attack. For a brief moment they will turn from whatever direction they are facing and face the direction of your mouse.
-spawning items with necroforge will not work with this mod enabled

I can already imagine people becoming bards of zombies luring them to safehouses.

But i really wish that we could play some instruments to reduce boredom or even have a little trait that lets you play music and buff up the mood of everyone around you a little bit (kinda like This War Of Mine).

I definitely can see why they wouldnt add it since its more of a feature-creep cosmetic kind of thing, but it would be neat to see.

I wonder if theres a possibility of doing that in a mod though.

Don't know yet, I'll check myself to see, but tbh, I think lot of people will want the prison as a base, so it may stay like this, make it hard to get, lore-wise it make sense, prison has a lot of population and they're stuck in there...

Most of the tease now about the animations update is not the animations themselves but the hype of carrying the NPCs foward, i doubt that they will release the animations update and then out of the blue creative mode and other features before the NPCs.

I mean they are pretty much poking at us with a stick saying "Just you wait until the animations are over " when talking about NPCs, they even said that animations are the only thing that is stopping the NPCs from begin in the game. (Unless we get another situation where they said that the female models were the challenge in the animation update and they were kinda wrong, then again i been hopeful for at least more than 3 years by now).

To return to the topic, the new area really really needs more zombies, is a residential area after all and i though that the zombie count would go up as days passed, but seems like that hasn't been the case after 2 weeks.

Part of why this year hit the hardest is probably the "Animations are going to happen soon folks!" 3 months, it was the RC NPC history all over again.

We probably could be looking at NPCs by Q2 next year if we are lucky and finally put all of this to bed.

Also i am really digging the new map, but most of the bugs i found were reported already, hope they add a bit more zombie denseity and trees or something, it feels lacking of that.

RJ is doing the zed map stuff tomorrow morning I think along with loot table and foraging stuff, primary aim for getting new map content out there in IWBUMS is getting feedback on map bugs really. The zeds will be more common in the next build

Prison has a lot more zeds in there as it has 200+ rooms, so it's triggering the spawn-lots-of-zombies code that was added for the Crossroads Mall.

That is the AI of an NPC from 2 years ago (Holy fuck i feel old, make time stop)

From the looks of it, it has some flaws but still plays better than the normal new-mid player in MP, the idea of that AI from what i remember was that they would be able to survive on the 6 Months Later setting, if i recall correctly they made progress on that.

Now we know that the NPCs have the skill to survive in the game without going full Rambo and shooting everyone with shotguns (like the good ol' days), but the important thing that i expect from the NPCs is when they are handicaped.

Since they are going to have personalities, some NPCs are going to be more able to survive than others, some will leave the doors open, maybe others will be too noisy, not putting sheets on the window, panicking and screaming (this was in the old NPC code, i recall seeing a video of a NPC just saying "THERES TOO MANY OF THEM" running to the other side while leaving his team alone getting muched on).

Here is the mondoid that caused the whole "No NPC in mondois allowed"
    http://projectzomboid.com/blog/2014/07/its-an-npc-related-mondoid1-no-hype-pls/

The system is there now, the AI is there, i know that they can deliver, its only a matter of waiting.

I think we still need to do zombie number balancing and also create loot tables for new building-types, so don't make the run just for guns just yet  (Edit: tho police station would probz be fine)

Ok, so iv been in the town to the south.  Looks like someone forgot to add the Zombies to the Zombie Survival game, there are a couple of rabid residents in their houses, but they dont seem to be reacting normally to t.v or radio.   It's an odd feeling to be playing P.Z  and know no fear when you trip a house alarm or hear the helicopter. Can this please be fixed soon?  Kinda lame to play The Sims : Running Simulator

So I found the Fire Department (it's not always burnt down btw :D), and my only complaint is there was no axe spawns in it at all. It had the other expected items (first aid, flashlights, etc), but it seems like there should be some axes there. I would suggest putting at least a couple of special containers there with a very high chance to roll axes somewhere in there, as it is something you would expect to find there.

Edit: Also, the sliding pole isn't functional it should function as a 1-way sheet rope.

Edit Edit: Also, the new arcades/pinball machines aren't stealable yet

One thing i dont understand though,  the last 3 months or so the team was tying up the animations system to the game systems right?

So all of that is going to be undone with this transfer of each state of player/zombie, since its tying up together the gameplay systems again but now with a new format,  i thought that the removal of the 2D sprite animations was removed along the lines in those 2 months.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! New map content has just gone into IWBUMS public beta testing! If you’d like to know how to join in and explore Rosewood and March Ridge then please have a poke inside this post.
We always like people to explore our new areas rather than just dump a load of screenshots on you, so this is a thread where you can share your discoveries. If you’d rather keep the surprise to yourself, then don’t read any further.
The primary areas with new content can be found in the directions shown by these very professional looking arrows, but there are other small areas on the existing map that have been updated too.

If you spot anything that looks like a map bug, then, as ever please report in in the TIS Bug Tracker. We be adding extra visual detail to these areas and fixing the issues you find in the IWBUMS builds to come.

    Good luck out there!

    320. For very large\heavy stuff - use cart:

    321. Durability for bags - in PZ almost everyday bags are full of loot, so in a bag the hole can appear, and loot will drop out, but we able to repair it with a needle and a thread.
    322. Durability for clothes.
    323. Weaver/ tailor profession - they will able to craft/repair (better then other) bags/clothes.

Guns serve the purpose of last resort type of thing, it can help you clear a horde and in PVP, sometimes bringing a butter knife to a gunfight is just not a good idea. (Also i am pretty sure that a NPC wont think twice to shot you if he sees that he dosent have the upperhand, renember that guns will probably will be more used in combat with NPCs)

The aim system in my opinion has the right mind set of a RPG, having a role and outside and inside factors (your character state) deciding if you hit or not your target.

However the major problem i have with the aim system is that i cant really aim at all, you chose a general direction and you just hoping to kill, this is fine with the shotgun aimed at a horde, however if you want to target a single NPC or player, it becomes a whole new world of pain because you dont know if you are targeting him or not.

A little bullseye or just a general indicator telling you where your pointer is and lets you aim at a target would fix a lot of the PVP friendly fire problems.

I find myself thinking that a good aiming system might be a cone of vision within the cone of vision. A sort of color overlay that gives an idea of the potential spread in which your weapon could be expected to operate given your mental state, skill and factors such as standing still to aim.

It would be a good way to really "see" where your shots have a potential to land in addition to lending a nice visible clue regarding how horrific your aim might be if you're truly panicked and swinging your pistol about like a shaky madman.

I recall that video, i kinda liked the idea, dunno why they never implemented that.
Maybe a small bullseye or something, just something to give feedback to the player and tell him "You are about to blow this motherfucker in front of you with the shotgun" and then miss the shot because you are panicking, haven't sleep in 3 days and you are weak because you didn't knew there was a nutrition system in place.
