We'll keep in mind all but the most powerful explosives are prolly not going to kill very many zombies, blast trauma kills people easy but would prolly just damage Zeds. It takes massive concussive waves to liquidly the brain in the skull, break bones sure, remove limbs yes , but you could balance them by 1) making the lethal aeration of effect low to Zeds, and 2) make it so they draw in Zeds from blocks, it would make people think twice about using them for safe house defense. And make them more of a situational weapon.
As for learning it maybe it's not a 5 tier skill, or perhaps there are military bases like in Bedford that can have skill books, blasting caps come with instructions , modeling kits teach basic wiring, ect ect. You can for example break down fire works and make explosives with them, even over the counter fireworks not to even mention the stuff you could make out of grade a fireworks
In short I think you could have explosives with out them being op. They could add a lot of fun to the game.

Also as I think about it more, the types of bombs you could make could scale with skill, in the same way that at level one you can't make a lot if the stuff you can at level 3-4-5 in carp just do that with bomb making. Level 1 bombs really can't be used for much other than making noise to draw in Zeds, and have problems like the fuse burns longer/shorter than intended. As your skill goes up so will the types of bombs you can make, the effectiveness of ones you can make and how reliable they are. Also bigger bombs could have greater risk, get stuck in a building ? Have to jump out a window ? Well maybe that fall sets off the IDE you are carrying ...

Well sorry, but I don't have the zombie survival guide. So I'm just kind of improvising what seems best to me.

What I DO know is when the horde comes, you REALLY want something more than air or a single layer of cloth between your skin and virulent teeth.

I am aware that there are many profession threads, but I found none with this specific suggestion.

The fire officer, police officer, park ranger, and construction worker all offer unique traits and no points to spend.  The "unemployed" profession should behave as if it were the custom profession choice and offer a fair amount of free trait points since it offers no other benefit.

There are no Firearm laws prohibiting you having a magazine loaded and it being stored in your house, and this is never the case other than what I would imagine NY having magazine limits, but having a a law that states you cannot have a loaded firearm in your home is nonsense. Kentucky is very liberal with there gun laws, and have no "assault weapon law". It even reciprocates my WV CCW permit.

All of these things are direct 1:1 consequences of your actions. Fire a gun, it's loud. Break into a building, alarm will go off if it has one. Leave food in too long, it burns. Drink bleach, you die. Break a window with bare hands, get scratched.

Walk around, fall over at random.

What I'm trying to point out is this discrepancy. Regardless of whether some factors effect it or not, it's still not a direct consequence of your actions- it's random, and it can't be avoided because walking is part of the basic functions of playing. There's no argument around this- it's bad game design, pure and simple. In a permadeath game, as much as possible must be in the player's hands so that when they die, it is inarguably their fault. It is a core concept of designing this kind of game- I can't expect people who aren't game devs (or people like myself who are closely tied up in the process on a day to day basis) to understand that, but I hope you can see the reasoning behind it and at least take my word for it.

Again, you say it wouldn't be common like that's a good thing. But the less predictable you make it, the worse game design it is (for the reasons I've enunciated above). I understand how it sounds good in people's heads, but it would be nothing but obnoxious and frustrating in the game. Again, the argument of realism isn't a viable one here- realism is only acceptable to the point where it crosses the boundary between good and bad game design. This steps over it.

Edit: Oh, and backpeddling isn't, and shouldn't be, a gamble. It is a core feature of how you control your character. That would be like making taking things out of a cabinet or breathing dangerous.

Not really on my list.  I'd rather have quality NPCs given a choice.      But working or not some car models littered around would add to the realistic look.

I just can't see them in PZ. The game is somewhat unique in a way and adding cars seems kinda ridiculous. I mean, just imagine what multiplayer would be like with cars. Players driving all over the place running over zombies and crap. The game would be like some early GTA ripoff with zombies. It would lose it's appeal.

Now I can see adding in bikes and motorbikes as transportation but not cars and trucks. Motorcycles are smaller, simpler to work on, and require less gas. Moveable containers such as shopping carts and wheelbarrels sound great and I'm all for it. But cars on the other hand sound sorta ridiculous for this game.

If the devs add in cars they might as well add in dragons and change the name of the game to Project Zomboid 2: GTA Boogaloo.

Honestly, this would make for a great single player novelty. Interact with the guy owning the house, try to get permission to join him and such, or kill and loot... or fire a round and watch his house be demolished by an incoming horde. IDK, there is some potential to that.

I will say though, that I would like to see guns become dirty after a while and necessitate cleaning and oiling.
Preferably around the time that they implement hunting and wildlife, I'd like to see that included.

Well, about proficiency at its current state, You can create a deaf, short sightnend, clumsy, unlucky and retarded character, and still hit a zombie 10 miles away with a headshot even tho its your first time using a gun <.<

Well the weapons do have those kinds of stats, but they aren't visible in the tool-tips. For example, the baseball bat has more range than the knife.

There won't be any tough zombies or special player abilities outside of mods though, the devs want the game to be somewhat realistic and to follow Romero lore.

There was a post by Lemmy a while ago that said that they're planning on doing an inventory overhaul which will include pockets on your clothing work as containers/fast draw slots, so I'd consider pockets confirmed.
I do like the idea of clothing affecting the grabbing.

One thing I would like to see be considered is how clothing can affect just more than your body heat.
    Things to consider for clothing:

How zombies are able to grab onto you- such as wearing baggy loose clothing that is easy to grab and pull. Items such as sweaters, sweatpants, baggy jeans (might be able to hold more items to compensate?) Wearing items that are hard to grip will also make it harder to be slowed down by mobs, such as silk or stiff leather.

How clothing can protect you from scratches and bites- I wouldn't expect a cheap t-shirt to defend from a bite or a vest to protect your arms... but clothing such as denim and especially leather should prevent scratches and bites to protected areas, resulting in punches instead (are punches the correct term for damage that doesn't break the skin?).

Pockets- coats and pants should be able to carry maybe 1-2 weight points. Little things like a chocolate bar or some nails/bandages can be held in them.

I know that they've stated that armor is going to be a 'maybe', but I don't consider any of this armor as opposed to tactical wardrobe considerations. Kevlar and ballistic plating (both of which might be necessary for hostile NPCs) I can understand if they don't implement.

Alright, I'll concede to your reply.
But I'd still like to see corpses very slowly rot into sinew and bone after a while, even if it takes months to occur.
I don't believe zombie lore includes that zombies just stop rotting away, unless they've frozen and have to wait for spring to feast on tasty brains.
    Much like the common fly.

I just want a reason to have fences at all. They don't stop or reasonably hinder a zombie by making it fall on it's face and forcing it to slowly recover.

Other than cosmetic purposes it's just a waste of wood and other materials.

If a throwing mechanic ever gets implemented, it'll probably be for distractions and a bit of damage.

Like there could be some random objects you normally find in everyday life(Bricks, glass bottles, empty cans of soda, etc.) and there are a couple of zomboids blocking your way but you don't want trouble, you could pick those up and throw it somewhere(Bricks on a window, or bottles at some wall) and they'll head to that direction on where the object was thrown. You could also throw it on the zomboids/NPC's, it won't do much to the zomboids. But it could stun the NPC giving you time to react.
