Veterans should have profession knowledge to operate heavy 50 cal mgs and military vehicles for late game use. Hip firing machine guns wouldn't really fit the realistic theme of the game imo, unless maybe as a perk of being a veteran able to fire short bursts.

What makes sense is setting up a bipod MG and turning zombies into crawlers or incapacitating them without outright killing, since it would be pretty rare to get a headshot. Think of the chapter of World War Z where the military gets overwhelmed despite using tanks, MGs, and airstrikes. MGs could knock down the horde but to finish it off you would need accurate shots from small arms or melee

When your friend's leg is injured they can't even jog, so what if in multiplayer you could pick up your friend on your back, and you could jog them to safety. Obviously no sprinting, but it would be nice to have more interactions with other players

Sewers and basements are a maybe from the devs, I think they said the engine would need some work to accommodate a "level -1"' on the map. Really will add a ton to the game if they can make it work.

OprahWinfrey reacted to Daev0xr in Dirty bandage and Bitten condition
Bandages: Dirty bandages feel like an inconvenience more than a real threat. I realize they probably have a hidden check to add to/ or cause illness, and that makes sense. If some serious wounds (laceration, deep wound,) had a chance to bleed through, after not being changed for "X" time period, then this would delete the bandage, and add to the players sense of danger.

Bitten: The problem is not the actual "Bite" mechanic because this is great, but i believe it takes away from the potential for doubt. The sense of panic one could have from not knowing for certain they are doomed, is 100% gone when this is revealed. Have a new injury called Abrasion. This is an uncertain wound; diagnosable by a doctor profession, medical trait or other method. A clear bite could not always be distinguishable especially in the panic of the moment. This could be similar to the uncertainty created by the risk of zombification due to scratch, and laceration mechanics; Bitten should not be known 100% unless a player is standing still when the event occurs, or is looked at more carefully by some method.

Jumping over a tall wall shouldn't be used only to gain you some time, but also to mislead zombies.
Of course, if the wall is short, it is acceptable that the zombie go around it, but long walls which the end of it are away from the zombie's sight? A bit non-immersive for me.

By the time the character lives long enough to start forgetting skills, I will probably be starting a new game out of boredom. Grinding them up is hard enough, I don't want to have to worry about maintaining an exponential decay. In my opinion, the progression will also feel less impactful (that moment when you level up a skill to 5+ after hunting high and low for materials).

Maybe skill decay could be an additional difficulty option that can be enabled in the settings, for those who don't get bored of the late game.

Those mostly sound good to me. The farming section was especially interesting. A lot of the recipes you mention such as the waterwheel and natural filtration system would be useful, but not something that you would find in a farming textbook or that any typical 90's farmer would know how to build. But perhaps someone with a particular profession would know how to build them. +1 for adding the "Amish" profession with its unique recipes (similar to the pipe bomb being unique to engineers), strength and fitness +1, farming +2, trapping and foraging +1, carpentry +1.

OprahWinfrey reacted to CaptKaspar in Zombie Pathfinding
Recently we had a horde of zombies attack a base that we set up in Riverside. We noticed the zombies on the SW side of a tall black fence that zombies can not climb/cross. Upon seeing us the zombies immediately went around the fence and broke through a wall that we had built. Not a single zombie approached us and tried to get at us through the fence. They were smart enough to immediately know the path-finding needed to get to us.

This was pretty immersion breaking. The zombies could see us through the fence, but they knew they needed to go all the way around the fence (and destroy a player built wall in the process) to get to us. None tried to get to us through the fence. Most, if not all, should have tried to get to us through the fence. Maybe after awhile they might figure out to go around the fence. Immediately though?

Red indicates where the zombies were. Blue indicates where we were. Black lines are where player built walls were placed.

OprahWinfrey got a reaction from Crossbow7734 in Make colors normal visible in inventory stack
Currently, when expanding a list of identical items in the inventory (such as T shirts), every item not at the top of the list is greyed out. When searching for a certain color in a large collection, it takes a long time to find the one that you want because all the colors are too dark to distinguish within the list. With all the new options for customizing your look, it would be a big time saver and quality of life addition.

It would be nice if there was an option to disable the greyed out colors in the stack and show the real color, or maybe just remove the effect. Example below:

Before the animation update it used to be just 3 items —  top, bottom, and shoes, but now, in the late game, you can have up to 15 pieces of clothing equipped at once and it bloats up the inventory tab. Would it be possible to make a separate tab as with the key ring?

I have seen people talk about this before, but I don't think it has ever had its own post.

The panic system needs to be revisited. Things like killing zombies and escaping hordes, successfully performing first aid, and other survival moments should contribute towards the overall acclimation of the character to the new, dangerous environment.

Just like strength and fitness, gaining a level in this category should take a long time. Eventually, someone starting out with no mental conditioning should end up the same as someone with the veteran profession (desensitized).

In my opinion, desensitization should occur much more quickly than gaining fitness or strength levels; the mind adapts much more quickly than the body.

Either way, after my character has killed hundreds of Z's and survived broken bones and mega hordes, he/she shouldn't be panicking at the sight of five zombies.

The cars were the first big update since the  new map addition- and the map addition was more like a small update in that it was mostly the effort of one member of the team (artist).

It just seems like the devs' time would be better spent on developing rather than rigorously testing each new addition internally for weeks or months before releasing it to the Early Access, IWBUMS opt-in play testers who can find bugs way faster. That's all- I'm happy with the game, just an observation of a potential efficiency loss in their process.

I don't think it is really meant to be possible for any one character to level everything up to 10. This combined with the multipliers from traits encourages a more realistic representation of people: decent at most stuff, professional at some stuff.

When the dragons are added, these specializations will encourage teamwork and make everyone an asset.

I think it has most to do with art direction. Random generation is boring to look at, its simple as that. I know that's debatable, but its far easier to make a realistic and interesting setpiece freehand than writing complex algorithms to literally MAKE ART, and not just a gameworld.
Plus, I read something about the devs enjoying the movie Goldfinger, which shortly features Muldraugh, as its actually within the Fort Knox base.

OprahWinfrey reacted to LeoIvanov in Diseases, sicknesses.
So, this topic has inspired me about some game idea that might radically change the game difficulty for people who are craving for more challenge, as well as finally giving some incentive for people to pick doctors.

So, the idea is to add all sorts of sicknesses that all have different symptoms. Some sicknesses will make you anxious, depressed, some will make you cough and sneeze and lose health randomly without any visible wounds on your body, some will make you feel weak, some will just hurt you and, if left untreated, will start killing you off.

The health panel, in this suggestion, gets a new column for every "Sickness" that your character gets. Depending on how severe it is, it gets it's own color. (Ideally, the "Sickness" tab will be green when your character feels alright)

Doctors and people who have leveled up their doctor skill will be able to distinguish the types of sicknesses (and even the correct items to treat them!). Inexperienced people will just get an "unknown sickness" and will have to either look for a doctor, or try and fight it on their own to continue going.

The list of sicknesses may range from Common, Safe, uncommon, to unsafe, hazardous and lethal. Each range may have up to 4-5 sicknesses with different symptoms, including the ability to make other people sick by being near them, or spreading it through various other ways like eating the same food (Remember the times when you make something and share it with your friends in Zomboid?)

You could catch sickness from variety of different factors, including but not limited to: Being out in the rain, walking around in a room full of blood, failing to clean and/or burn zombies, drinking contaminated water, eating raw food, eating sick animals (birds/rabbits/fish).

Traits like Prone to Illness and Outdoorsman determine the severity of possible sicknesses you may catch, as well as their variety. Doctors are capable of determining the sickness and possible ways of treating it (The bigger the level, the more "easier" solutions, like herbalist stuff), Hikers and Foragers will be able to find the medical plants to treat these.

I believe that introducing this to the game will add a new potential way to kill your character that everyone will have to be afraid of. No longer will you be able to live safely behind huge walls on the corner of the map, fishing from the same pond and sleeping in a room full of corpses. You'll have to stay careful about your surroundings and actively make sure that you don't catch a nasty virus that will end your life. Suddenly, trips to the town and into pharmacies become useful. Easier gamemodes and sandbox can include or fully remove the range of these sicknesses (meaning characters never get lethal sicknesses, or never get that particular annoying one), in case people find them way too hard.

Then, the modders could gather together and come up with their own sicknesses. Expand it, make it beyond realistic. (Looking at you, Hydrocraft <3)

Hi. I think, project zomboid could use a bit of a more alife experience. It feels so lonely without people playing with you. I suggest character speaking. We can already shout, but I d like to suggest some more talking, for example "I wish I didnt have to kill you","Or God I ve seen you once..", "lets see what we have here" and such. Maybe through same way we shout with words above character head or maybe by a console\separate console. Thanks

The beauty of PZ is that it doesn't make adjustments to feel more game-y.

Cars can't hit heavy things and shrug it off, especially at high speed. Just because you want to be able to run over zombies as an effective way of killing them, doesn't mean it should be in the game. We all WANT to bring thousands of bullets to the mall and gun down/smash the skulls of every zombie around Left 4 Dead 2 style, but it would ruin the game.
