    I'm currently trying to get a nice lovely base set up in the knobby creaky place at the motel or lodge or somewhere and loot like all the ammo I can. After that, I'll back the save up and make a whole bunch of attempts to fiddle with the mall because i get scared very easily also i really hope they never ever remove the save backing uppy thingy.

    I like to set up in a place that is semi-dangerous. It adds more challenge to the game, because migration is of ATM.

    Here's how it all went south.
     
    Found out where the mall was. I gathered as much food, and ammo as I needed to make the trip. I made it to the mall, I was honestly really stunned at the size. I checked the doors around the outside of the mall, I finally found one that was unlocked. I jump in, and I got swarmed. My shotgun couldn't clear the zombies out. (roughly about 30 of them.) I panicked, ran up some stairs, that was a really bad idea. I was invited by another 30 or so zombies. Instead of shooting them, I decided to push them away for some reason, bad idea.
     
    The meaning of this.
     
    Please be ready when you are going to the mall. Don't be like me, and underestimate the amount of zombies.

    The game is a WIP, the developers are currently working on bigger projects. Like, NPC's, vehicles and hunting. I'm sure they will fix the minor details when they get the big things out there.
     
    As for the SFX
    I was already told by Mash that there will be more of it in the future.

    Thanks for the update. I have been following the dev progress for a while and I am aware of that the tasks on the development forefront are, as you said, NPCs, vehicles and hunting. I just wanted to bring up the issue of water textures because it was the only thing that really truly bothered be in the current builds. Just wanted to make sure the have it on their list is all. Glad to hear it is!

    The Problem
    Bodies of water are dull and almost unrecognizable as water. They are static, produce no ambient noise and have no glint or shine that differentiates it from the land around it.
     
    How Can the Game Improve in Respect to this Problem?
    Better water textures. Give water a flow and current. Maybe even a subtle shimmer. Waves. No matter what size, waves make bodies of water instantly recognizable. Audio and proximity. Allow players to detect when they are near a body of water by slowly fading in the sound of flowing water .  
    Does it Make Sense for the Game?
    Bodies of water would become important for the player to be aware of. The sound of flowing water can muffle or block out the sound of an approaching zombie.
    Trash and useful items would wash up on the shores of rivers and lakes. 
     
    Is it worth the time and effort to develop?
    The game seems severely lacking in giving movement and "life" to the game world. More dynamic and visually appealing bodies of water would give the game world more "life" and would also make the player more aware of them.

    Without going into the math of it, can you even charge a car battery in a timely manner off a realistic number of probably scavenged solar panels?
     
    Last time I had to charge a car battery externally, it had to remained plugged into a wall charger for almost 9 hours.
    9 hours of charging plugged into a wall socket, would probably mean that it'd take much longer than a single day to charge a car battery off a single, or small array of, solar panels.
     
    Again, I haven't crunched any numbers (yet), but on the surface I'd bet you want to charge something a little smaller than a car battery from solar panels. Unless you've found a house with a large array of the roof, or something similar.

    I don't see any reason why outright cheating should be included in Sandbox. If you want to go through the trouble of changing the values for traits in the Lua files, though? Have at it.

    Indeed it does! I go around taking all bodies on my block and putting them inside the houses and one at the door so i know its looted.

    I think(hope) the game will be aimed at more mature audiences, what with all the zombies eating living people and the social intrigues that will arise once NPC's are in.
     
    However I have had this sneaking feeling the game is going all PG13 though with the number of spiffos everywhere, it certainly looks like it is meant for small children, so that wouldn't really surprise me either if they went all out child-friendly.

    I got to the roof of the cinema and started to run up and down in sight of the horde all night to learn to sneak around.

    Then, when I was about to reach lvl 4 sneaking and lightfooted, I prompty slipped off the edge and plunged to my death.

    Using the forum search feature, I found 22 existing threads either specifically related to tripping and falling, or covering the possibility of the mechanic alongside something else.
    The sneaky little magnifying glass in the top right is the search function, use it to help avoid suggestions being repeated over and over, please 
     
    With that out of the way, from a programmer/developer's perspective myself, I think i covered most of my reasoning behind why it would be a bad idea to implement it in PZ in this thread: Stumbling - formerly Tripping and Falling.
    The basis of it is that without it being a core gameplay mechanic, you should never take away Player Control Responsiveness, more so in a perma-death survival game.
    As Migoxiss has alluded to, you can't introduce mechanics which could kill the player without any foresight, action, or inaction by the player themselves causing that death.
     
    Otherwise you might as well introduce something like a 5% chance of doorknobs exploding inescapably when a door is opened.
    Oh, and only if you're being chased by zombies at the time.
    And the exploding doors look just like every other door.
    And it deals 110% of your health as damage (Yes, you are now dead)

    I think that there is a ,,rule" called Player Freedom. You cant control this tripping so thats the problem. I d like this idea but its not good for Zomboid

    Yay ! Finally I did it ! The fishing thread !
     
    First of all : Please remember that this is an early access game, so you can help us here, we listen to you guys, if you have any suggestion about fishing in the game or how it works (like if everyone want QTE fishing, we can do it !), please tell us in this thread !
     
    Let's roll ! (to be a rock and not to rooolllllll... Sorry.)
     
    1) Required stuff (yes, you CAN'T fish with your hands, or you're Bear Grills.)
    A fishing rod Bait Water (and not a rain collector barrel ) Let's talk about the fishing rod, you can find one or you can craft one : You'll need a wooden stick, some twine (or fishing twine), a hook made of nails or paperclip and a knife to craft this all.
    So why use a fishing twine instead of the classic twine ? Well, just because it's more resistant, you'll have less chance to broke a fishing twine than a classic twine.
    The bait now, you have 3 types of bait so far : Worms, Bait fish, Fishing Tackle.
    Worms first, you can find some by digging the ground, they are great to catch a lot of fishes.
    Bait fish now, you can fish them sometimes, or just put a fishing net and wait for them (more info in 2) !) they are used to catch bigger fishes (like Pike)
    And finally Fishing Tackle, be warn with them, they are more used by good fisherman, don't really try them if you're low on fishing skills (oh, did I say there was a fishing skill ? Damn, I need to practise those kind of thread... )
     
    Ok, you're ready now ? The hardest part : right click on water, select "fishing" !
    And then you have to wait... And wait.... And try again... And lose bait, try AGAIN, and wait.... And maybe catch something... Maybe some socks...
    Oh. Be carefull tho, our game have zombies.
     
    2) Fishing net ! (for lazy fisherman, yay !)
     
    You can find them, or craft them with some wire and twine (lot of twine.. 2 FULL twine), then you just put them in water (right click on water, select "place fishing net").
    Then, you just have to... Mmh... What the main thing about fishing ? WAIT ! YEAH ! It's pretty easy, just wait and check your trap sometimes (I give you a clue : wait a minimum of 1h before checking it), be carefull, the more you wait, the more chance it have to break... Check it every 10h or something.
     
    So for now you can only catch fish bait with them, those fishes are used to catch bigger fishes (like zombie sand double headed shark... I wonder how many people read all my stuff entirely.. We'll see with this ).
     
    3) Fishing skills !
     
    Who said fishing not require any skills ? (answer : me as a child)
    The skill is involved in lot of things, like the time needed to catch something, the chance to break the line, the chance to lose the fishing tackle, the chance to lose the fish if he bait, etc.
     
    4) Fishes !
     
    After a lot of researches (I'm not kidding, jeez, I even found this : https://twitter.com/rj_pz/status/454169911166660610 like REALLY ?) we added different type of fishes (7 !), all can be found in Kentucky, yup, let's stay realistic here ! (but don't worry, the system is really EASY to mod, so add your own fishes !)
    They each have 3 size (small, medium and large... I don't know why, but I need a coke now...), and each type have min/max weight/size, so for example, a small trout can be from 10 to 20cm and a medium one from 20 to 30 (this is just an example, I don't remember the exact numbers ).
    The size influence the weight which influence the hunger reduction given by the fish.
    A large fish have more chance to break your line, but will also give you a lot of hunger reduction and give you more xp !
    Once you catch a fish, you can cook it directly, or cut the fillet so it can be used in a lot of recipes, but by cutting fillet you'll lose a slight hunger reduction of it (a slight, really).
     
    6) Dawn and Dusk
     
    You'll have more chance to catch fishes at dawn and dusk... Mmh yup, that's all I have to said here... Don't have any jokes left... Mmh... Well, that was interesting at least...
     
     
     
    Ok, I think I'm done for fishing !
    Oh yeah, for modders, check the fishing_properties.lua file, everything is down there, pretty easy to add your own fishes/bait, right ?
     
    Again, I'd like to hear feedback from fisherman (and non-fisherman) about how realistic is it, do you get the thrill of catching a large fish, is it too boring, too easy/hard ? TELL ME !
