I'd like someone to make a mod that while playing PZ could pause real life. My spare time is getting strangled starting next week, so I'm afraid real life is getting in the way of surviving the zombie apocalypse 

Unfortunately RealLife's current versions don't support pausing. It's been suggested to the devs before so hopefully they'll get around to it at some point though. It's really annoying too, as while you're playing PZ other people can just grind ridiculous amount of stat points, money and gear in RealLife. You're punished way too much for not devoting all of your free time to it. Really, I doubt anyone would play RL if it wasn't F2P, even though it's ridiculous that you have to use micropayments to get access to almost any feature of the game, with the exception of the hobo and crime careers. And if your character gets jailed or dies you can't roll a new one in ages! The alpha and beta version players hoarded almost all of the money and properties too, which is unfair. I don't know why they haven't done a server wipe after the last ice age endgame quest chain was completed.

Hey all,

been inspired by some of the great stories on the forums so far. Thought I'd add/start one of my own. This is "inspired by and loosely based" on PZ - it's not an exact play-through turned into a story, but it's definitely PZ that got me started.

WARNING: My character swears a fair bit, so if you don't like profanity, then probably be best not to read this one. Anyway, here goes:
 
 
Old Dog, New Tricks Part I

I hope I die a good death.

Maybe it’ll be in my sleep - just close my eyes one night and never wake up - that seems like a pretty sweet deal, or maybe in a “blaze of glory” – going down kicking and screaming, hopped up on whiskey and pills, yeah, that’d be alright with me too I guess. I just don’t want to go out with a whimper – snivelling in the corner of my safe-house, the smell of puke and piss filling my nostrils as I cry out for my mama.

I’ve never been one to back down from anything, yet here I am, barricaded in some strangers God-damn Townhouse, no power, living on canned Tuna, (I fucking hate Tuna), soda, and stale bread. I hate those fucking – those…things, for forcing me to live like this, constantly on edge, every minute of my waking moments laced with fear and uncertainty. Thank fuck for the liquor and meds I’ve picked up along the way, sometimes it’s the only way I can get some sleep…

It still feels kinda stupid to call them “Zombies”, but what other term sums up some shambling un-fucking- dead thing, intent on eating your face off? ”Living-challenged, reanimated cannibalistic corpse” just doesn’t have the same ring to it, so for now, “Zeds” it is.

The first time I saw a Zed I thought I’d lost my fucking mind. Maybe I did a bit, I don’t know. It definitely changes your view of things when you go to see what the noise is in the apartment down the hall, only to be met by something that looked like it’d been dragged underneath a bus for a few blocks. It was the guy from 6b, (I recognised him from his stupid “Kiss me, I’m Irish” t-shirt he wore most days), and at first I was so shocked, I couldn’t understand how he could be grinning when he looked so messed up. Except he wasn’t grinning, I could see all his teeth because most of the flesh on his jaw had been ripped away, jagged flaps of skin hanging like a blood-stained beard. I could see the tendons and muscles moving as he growled in my direction – a wet, guttural sound. A hungry sound.

I remember back-pedalling like crazy, grunting in pain as my back slammed into a desk, trying to get as far-as-fuck away from Mr 6b as possible. I could see huge chunks of flesh missing from his out-stretched arms, and deep scratches and, Jesus, were those bite marks around his throat? I reached behind me, trying to find something, anything that might keep this thing away from me. My hand closed on something cylindrical, and before I had time to think I plunged it into 6b’s face, again and again. He stopped advancing, collapsing sideways to the floor, the pen I’d used in my frenzy sticking out of the socket where his eye had been, a bloody jelly-like fluid oozing from the wound.

It was only then I noticed the stench – the thick, acrid odour of decomposing flesh enveloping me, and I’d puked until my throat was raw, my eyes streaming with tears, lines of snot and vomit dripping from my chin. I can tell you one thing - I made finding something better than a fucking pen for a weapon one of my first priorities. After that first encounter, survival instinct kicked in, and that’s what I’ve been doing ever since – surviving.

So why am I writing this? Gives me something to do mainly, it’s not like I can take a leisurely Sunday afternoon stroll to the park and sun myself while reading some shitty novel, I’m afraid those days are long gone. Now this ain’t gonna be a day by day, hour by hour journal of my life. So if you’re expecting a “Dear Diary, today was just the best day in my life! Bobby-Jo just asked me to the prom” type dealio, you can stop reading right-fucking now.

Anyway, like I said, it gives me something to pass the time, and sure as hell beats talking to myself, (although I’ve been catching myself doing that more and more recently). Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I’ve got nothing to do, what with trying to outrun, hide from, and fight masses of walking fucking-dead things, as well as trying to scavenge for supplies wherever I can, but you gotta be careful, and lay low a lot of the time… Speaking of which, time for me to try and rest a bit. I might do a supply run in the morning, and the meds are starting to kick in, so I’ll continue this next chance I get… (Assuming there is one of course).

I actually made a pillow silencer mod. This topic has been suggested a lot and are usually starts a fight for and against. What this game is trying to deliver is partially a feeling that firearms aren't a viable method of dealing with zombies, because it takes away a great deal of suspense. (eg. making the horror experience too easy to overpower)
 
A make-shift surpressor or silencer empowers the player in a manner that wasn't intented, afaik

Even for the games forum this is too stupid to continue.

Since MP is on the horizon, we're going to be pushing hunting RIGHT up the priority list (this will not involve me beyond the initial set up explained here, so no NPC hit guys ) since at present we reach the point where obtaining your own non looted food will become a requirement much quicker and just having farming alone may not make for as varied gameplay for fortress building once the shelves have run bare..

LuaEntities!
 
A LuaEntity is another of the family of Player, Survivor, Zombie. But, as the name implies, its guts are lua driven not java driven.
 
Since we'll be writing the huntable animals in Lua and not Java, you'll be able to derive your own LuaEntity derived lua class and have your own update, postrender, state machine and all that jazz required to make a fully functional AI driven thing in the zomboid world, along with necessary knobs and buttons to allow you to transmit their states over the internet for MP. They will have pathfind states and other commonly required states, allow animation, 3D models or sprites, and all that goodness.
 
What will this mean? Who was it who wanted to do triffids? or daleks? or spitters/hunters/smokers or whatever else? Yup.
 
Hurrah! Hopefully this will open up a whole new dimension of zomboid modding, even total conversions, where zombies can be disabled and you really have the power to make substantially different game-play. I'm sure that these LuaEntities could be used in ways we wouldn't expect too, not being just limited to AI beings in principle.

I hardly think Highlander would go through all the trouble of writing about and submitting his mod, if it didn't work 

The map section on http://pz-mods.net has been reactivated. Hopefully we'll see some awesome maps alongside with all the awesome mods that's already there.

I never got around posting this mod on the new forum. It's a silencer for a pistol - but not just any silencer. It's also your pillow! Just as you though pillows where dog gone useless in survival, you actually have something that will silence your gun.
Hold a pillow as your secondary weapon and it will silence your gun, but not forever. It will last 5-15 shots until the pillow is completly torned.

Features
Is not a recipe - holding a pillow as secondary will silence your gun Each shot decreases the pillows ability to reduce noise. Lasts 5-15 shots until pillow is torned Silenced gun shot sounds included No editing needed! It's very good for clearing rooms and hallways without getting other zombies attention.
 
Installation
Installing the pillowsilencer is as always - extract the contents of pillowsilencer.zip in your project zomboid folder

Good high quality bug reports including description, steps to reproduce, logs and stuff like that is probably one of the things that speeds up development the most. Bugtracking is extremely time consuming.
