Some people are split on the question of which fallout is the superior one and my vote is with New Vegas. I used to like Fallout 3 more but after giving New Vegas a closer in depth look I can say that it is, in my opinion, the better Fallout.

The story, companion system, factions, quests, gameplay, writing and the feeling of an actual world interacting with itself felt leagues ahead over Fallout 3. The only thing Fallout 3 bested New Vegas at was the aesthetic and feel of an apocalyptic world. Having the game be post apocalyptic but take place in the desert was kind of a drag, but the pros far out weigh the cons. At least for me.

So, Indie Stone, which is it? Fo3 or NV?

F3 for the win. Actually, never played NV, so I have no clue. :P

I found a mod for F3 called 'Apocalyptic Armory' a bit back that was taken down for some weird unknown reason (I dislike you Nexus. I really do.), but after days of Google raking I found a reuploaded link. It adds something like an extra 300 weapons to the game, most of which are real world weapons, which seems more like the original to me. It's also far more challenging, just because of the quadrabillions of different types of ammo to keep track of... :D But revolvers. I do like my revolvers.

I prefer Fallout 3, because it has a much more compelling and emotionally-driven story. That, and your dad is motherfucking Liam Neeson.

Gotta disagree. The story is so floaty I was sick of it even when I thought it was the best game ever.

Game spoilers:

After you find your Dad (the motherfucker you left the vault for no less) he immediately goes to Rivet City. And your reuniting wasn't emotional at all. "Thanks for freeing me, lets bounce". Wow. My heart strings are stretched to their limits. Then he dies shortly after. It was so lazy that I completely lost interest in the games story.

Eh, it was my first Fallout game, and I've got pretty low standards for video games, so that's pretty much why I like it.

TBH Fallout 3 isn't even a true Fallout game. It completely ruined Super Mutants and fucked up some lore for the series. New Vegas does a better job going back to Fallouts roots but still falls a little short.

Yeah, but the story of New Vegas seems really shity to me , I mean you start with amnesia and the character never bothers to find out who you is he and all sucess and people is so random. So I feel better Fallout 3, but I really like New Vegas, the dlcs are great.

It's an RPG, dude. You're suppose to make your character, not the game. The only thing the game forces you to be is a nobody courier before you got shot. After that you can be who ever the hell you want. The story is driven towards who and why you got shot.

Damn. Your "location" sure doesn't lie.

Wish I could answer, but I have not played any of the Fallout game series.

If you like lore and want an in depth look at the world of the game, I recommend starting with Fallout 1 and progressing. I wont lie, you need to be very invested with the playthroughs for the first 2 games or you wont have fun.

If you want a quick look at what Fallout is all about or just want a good post apocalyptic RPG pick up either Fo3 or NV (the one I'd recommend you play out of the two). Be warned though. If you play Fo3 or NV before playing Fo1 or 2 its a really hard to get into them. They are very different games.

Yeah hahaha

Damn. Your "location" sure doesn't lie.

I meant that "he, all the events, and people are so random" if the word random have some sense in the sentence (?)

Yeah, I know that is a rpg and you create your character, but all games tell you something about the character's past in some way. Even in PZ, when you created your character, you select his trait and professions, with that I'm pretty fine.

But I don't know, in New Vegas, you already have that past and doesn't matter... you have amnesia and making a psychology test your can choose skills, even if the skills don't fit with your profession, even if you are the weakest and intelligent person in the world, your job is deliver a casino chip(?) Thats bother me haha, beside, I don't feel the world and the rest of story immersive.

But still, New Vegas, is a good game, but don't think that is better than F3, "but" I can tell you really which one I prefer, because with both I have to much fun haha

I preferred Fallout 3's story and atmosphere. Fallout 3 gave me the sensation of it being a post-apocalyptic war torn world filled with dangers, and insane people around every corner as I travel from quest marker to quest marker. Its story also felt more full to me, it didn't feel like I was thrown into a personal quest that I finished and then was forced to help 3 factions like I was in Fallout New Vegas giving the character no development what so ever.

Fallout New Vegas' story line about killing Benny was fine, kinda generic, but none the less fine. Though when it threw a turn forcing me to help NCR, the Legion, or House, I felt like I was let down. Though Fallout was never known for their story.

I liked Fallout: New Vegas' game mechanics though. I liked the idea of faction disguises, and gun modifications. I also enjoyed super mutants more, though not to say Fallout 3's super mutants were bad, but New Vegas was more canon.

In all in all, I liked Fallout 3's story more, I felt like the character was given more room to develop than New Vegas gave the character. Though neither are bad games, and are definitely worth playing. Also, play Fallout's 1 and 2, fantastic games that you can get on steam for $20. Tactics Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel seems okay, I never got around to playing it.

I did not enjoy F3 as much as NV simply because i bought the german version, which lacks nearly all graphical effects and violence. That really ruined the atmosphere for me.

When I bought NV I made sure that I had the uncut version by importing it.

I like both games but NV is my favourite.

I prefer New Vegas personally mainly because it sticks to the lore of the original fallout games. I do agree that fallout 3 has a far more involving landscape, its a far more visually impressive game.

But I think the characters in fallout NV are far more interesting, the dialogue is superior and the voice acting is much better across the board. FO 3 does have some good actors for sure, but almost all the small roles are voiced by a couple of people and you can really tell its the same person with a slightly different voice.

Played the first, and second one. So when Fallout 3 came around I quickly fell in love with the game.

It's just the general apocalyptic despair and atmosphere that drew me into Fallout 3 and the fact that it took place in D.C was a plus, it was a good setting and Fallout 3 remains my favorite out of the lot so far.

Can't say I liked Fallout NV. I immediately took a dislike to the whole setting, theme and just the way the story was setup. I didn't like the condensed feeling of the map, nor was I fond of the overwhelming amount of quests in such a confined space.

However Fallout NV has more value in actual content. There is a vast amount of quests, a lot more landmarks, secrets and places to visit and generally provided a more interactive experience with npc's. However, I just couldn't fall in love with the western feel for it and the overall theme. I felt they lost the apocalyptic feel to the game that Fallout 3 had and I just couldn't get into the new setting. Even though Fallout 3 can't compare to the amount of content+quests in NV, I find it has the better atmosphere.

Don't particularly like one or the other. Though New Vegas has much better writing (unless you dislike amnesia), its engine is the same, with the same bugs, and the same limitations (such as the maximum amount of text present on the screen before scrolling). Along with the reuse of assets, it gives the impression that they're very similar games, even if their gameplay does vary.

NV Just feels annoying to me i don't know why :P

Probably because you have to pay attention to it instead of running around with a full suit of T-51b power armor and a fatman.

There's power armor and a fatman in NV as well, so...

Personally I never used it. I think mods have spoiled me on Fallout 3 specifically FWE mod, which made things a lot more harsher and hardcore, making combat quite quick and lethal.

Where in New Vegas can you get power armor and a God weapon like the fatman as fast as you can in Fallout 3?

In Fallout 3, and New Vegas, power armor training is required to actually equip it. You get this training from Gunny at the Citadel or doing the Anchorage quests, so it ain't that quick at all. For Fatman, the first one you get is during the quest going towards Galaxy News Radio, and I believe you only get something like 3 or 4 nukes to take out the Behemoth that attacks. Nukes aren't that common and I wouldn't call it a 'god weapon' at all. Power armor as well doesn't make you invulnerable either.

But it sure makes the game easy. Once I got a hold of some armor and the fatman the difficulty plummeted. Even when set to very hard it felt like normal.
