Verun got a reaction from DramaSetter in I survived for .... long
I played it thrice and quit after approx 3 months of surviving because it just gets repetitive then and that means immersion crumbles and it's "just a game". That's not meant negative. I always had a blast playing it.

Would be cool if you would start 'seeing'... things when you're very panicked or terrified, kinda like in "don't starve" where the shadows... start moving.

Pretty cool seeing Muldraugh and West Point in the game. I have actually been there, almost stayed at the SunStar Hotel even  (except its really called the Golden Manor) but we ended up staying in Shepherdsville which is just east of West Point. We stopped at Dodge's Chicken and bought gas and cigarettes, not sure the name of the place in the game, but its the gas station near the laundry mat on Dixie Hwy. I was working inside an underground tunnel at Fort Knox that they used to test munitions and explosives.

and trust me when I tell you, the helicopters in the game are spot on...  They are constantly flying blackhawks over there. annoying as hell. They have an entire mock village built in the woods where they fly in and shoot the place up with door gunners then repel out onto the roof tops. They told us at the gate "don't look, don't stop, don't take pictures"  lol.   At the edge of the mock town there was a little shack that had a dirt bike propped up against it with a Taliban dummy sitting in a chair holding a rope attached to a goat haha   so when you add the base in the game, don't forget the goat. (I really don't expect the map to extend that far into the base) The whole road (Mt Eden Rd.) is littered with old tanks, trucks, etc that the army has used for target practice. (you can see it on google earth or google maps)

The only thing that zomboid has wrong is the flat groung... its quite mountainous instead. Very cool nostalgia playing a map where you have actually been. Such an awesome game. well done!

Many people on the forum say yelling would force some kind of reaction from zombies. They never reacted in my game, I could go shouting all day. o_O

My god, there's a hundredandfifty ways to obtain water and a hundredandfifty more in an urban environment. Drill a hole damnit, use rain barrel collector, catch evaporized water from plants. Just stop drinking your pee!

Hah, this wins for me so far lol.

Btw., are zombie hordes from meta events in the current build? I heard many helicopters and some gunshots but never saw any hordes yet. The town is pretty empty now too. I'd have to search for zombies if I needed someone to talk to in my game at the moment.

I set up camp at the farm with the well. Could that be the reason? Maybe the hordes are stuck in the forest somewhere... ^____O

Verun reacted to SJane3384 in So you know that house on the river in WP?
I wanted to see if you could use carpentry skills to access it.  I set up a sandbox game with no zombies and time ratio set to "Real Time" to find out.  I created a guy named Testy McTest and spent awhile in WP gathering up supplies.  After finding the first three carpentry books, a sledgehammer, axe, saw, hammer, and 20 boxes of nails, I headed over to the house.  My plan was to build stairs across and knock off a piece of the roof, then drop down and see what was inside.  A couple days and several hundred sawed logs later, this is what I found:

I was in the wilderness while it was raining and storming. I couldn't tell which direction I was heading, I was only looking for shelter or a place to sleep at for the night, without being attacked by any more zeds (My frying pan and kitchen knife had broken, only a pistol with one round remaining.). Out of nowhere, a very lonely cabin appears in my sight. Fortunately, all the windows were broken, and I was able to enter.

When I entered, there was a crawling zombie right to the side of the window I came through. I had no choice to use my final emergency round to blow its brains out. Then... a horde of zombies come from all directions towards the cabin. defenseless, and unable to  regain stamina to escape the cabin, I was slowly waiting for an awful ending.

Eh, not the scariest at all, but being alone and being in a storm frightens me

Quoted from the Mondoid, 3rd February 2014:

    How will sleeping work?
A lot of people have asked how the sleeping will work, and while the first version will likely just forgo sleeping completely, future builds will have a ‘nap’ option that will allow you to take a short sleep that lasts just a bit longer than a single player fastforwarded sleep would. The actual sleep option will be used as a way to log off safely.

Verun got a reaction from megaman204 in Wheres your base?
At first I used the house I spawned in as my base until I got it "fortified" with lv 1/2 carpenter paper walls. Then I made camp at the large warehouse in the far northern part of the town. It's easy to fortify and was well stocked at least in my game.

I started the game with farming in mind, so I moved over to the farm out of the town because it's very remote and has a well. Only real downside is it's biggest advantage. Being so far away means quite the trip when getting more materials from the town, at least as long as there are no vehicles ingame yet. But as for zombies, I didn't see any apart from the few that were there when I first arrived.

In case anyone is interested, here is the updated information for the most recent release [17(0014)]:

For all vegetables, the time to rot has not changed.

    Cabbages:
-the days to harvest (with and without seeds) has not changed
-the yield however has been lowered. The most cabbages I harvested on this play-through (ending November 14) was 6 (and a vast majority of harvests gave 4 cabbages). That is lower than the 8 for the previous build

    Broccoli:
-it now takes 15-16 days to harvest (without seeds)- this is increased from 14-15 days
-it still takes 3 additional days to get seeds
    -the yield remains the same

    Potatoes:
-harvest time (without seeds) has also been increased to 14-15 days from 12-13 days
-it still takes 3 additional days to get seeds
    -the yield remains the same

    Tomatoes:
-harvest time has increased to 16 days
-the yield has been fixed- tomato plants no longer just give 1 tomato/harvest. They now give 6-8 on average

    Strawberries:
-the "zombie strawberries" are no more! While you still have to worry about disease as the plant is not removed on harvest, you no longer have to worry about disease destroying all your plants. As well, they don't infect other plants like they did before
-because they maintain their diseases after harvest though, the harvest times were all over the place. Initial harvest was 19 days. After that the harvest varied from 14 to 23 days.
    -yield was 8-11 strawberries

    Misc.:
    -shovels now remove dead plants
-you can now make a tasty salad out of tomatoes, potatoes, broccoli, and cabbage. I note however that the only time I made it, I got sick.
-the sprites for cabbages are different for your inventory vs. in a crate. The sprite looks darker when the cabbage is placed in a crate.
-if you have a trowel equipped, one click on "dig" works. Otherwise you have to click twice (the first click doesn't actually dig, it just equips the trowel)
-the health of a plant appears to have been fixed. In the previous build the plants would always get healthier as they grew. Now, their health is more fixed to when they are first planted

What I have been doing in West Point is: I carry a package of potato seeds and a trowel with me when I go scavenging. I'll plant and water some potatoes every once in a while at locations where I know I will probably be travelling on in the future. Then I just leave them. If they survive, great, and I can harvest them if I'm by that way again and have fresh food for a few days. If not, no loss.

    Hope this is helpful.

I'm one of the players who likes to fortify a location and see how long I can survive. As such, I've had plenty of time to test farming. It's nothing fancy but I figured I'd share my findings with those who are wondering about the nuts and bolts of farming.

And as noted in the guide, I do realize it's a beta game and everything could change tomorrow. Such is life!
