Rathlord got a reaction from Matt Morgan in Commonly Suggested Suggestions
Heya guys, I'm going to throw together a quick list of things that are commonly suggested and whether they've been mentioned by devs as tentative or no's. I'm going to be basing this off of a few threads in the old forum and the top of my head. If I miss any please mention it in the thread and I'll add it to the list.

    Key
[n] - This is a confirmed 'No' from the development team. Please don't waste your time or ours reposting unless there's something relevant and new about it
[y] - This is confirmed 'Yes' from the development team. This is something the definitely want to see in the game, but this does not constitute a guarantee. Please don't post about it unless you have something new or relevant to add.
[m] - This is a 'maybe' from the dev team. It's something they've mentioned that they were interested in but we still don't know if it's a confirmed feature. Please don't post about it unless you have something new or relevant to add.
Everything else - everything not marked would be something overwhelmingly decided by the community or that's self-evident. If you feel it needs discussion bring it up here or in a thread if there's not already one out there.

    The Big No's!
These are a list of things that are either vehemently opposed by the majority of the community, confirmed "no's" by the dev team, or impossible within the game as it is. I'm going to try to make this completely unbiased, but if you disagree with anything posted feel free to mention it. The most important ones are highlighted in red. If you take nothing else from this thread, please pay attention to these.

Rathlord got a reaction from davixcz in How To Write A Good Suggestion
Heya guys,   Rathlord here. I'm going to give a few quick tips on how to write a good suggestion for Project Zomboid- some of the pitfalls and traps you can fall into, some of the resources to check before writing, and what makes a good suggestion.   Before You Post!   You know that moment when you're sitting on the can and all of a sudden, the most brilliant idea in the world comes to you? Something that would change PZ forever, bring it skyrocketing to fame and stardom? Good~ now hold that thought.   There's a few things you should do before you post. First and foremost (especially if you don't frequent the Project Zomboid forums) you should read through the other sticky in the suggestions forum, which has a list of commonly suggested and confirmed/denied suggestions:   http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/192-commonly-suggested-suggestions-read-before-posting/   Here's the archived old 3 part version written by several community members as well (unfortunately these links no longer work- I'll update if I can ever get them functioning again):         If you've read over these threads and your idea hasn't been suggested before, been said "No" to, or been listed as planned there's one other thing to do; search! We don't ask that you spend hours paging through search results. Just put your main topic (say, "Cars") into the search pane. If you don't see anything, feel free to move on.   Now it's time to take a critical look at your idea!   The last thing you should do before you post is take a good, objective look at what you're proposing. The basic questions you should answer before posting:
Is it somewhat realistic? Does it fit with the spirit of PZ? Would it make the game too easy? Would it require rewriting the entire game (like changing the camera view, for instance) Would it add enough to the gameplay that it would be worth taking the time to add? Would it be found in Muldraugh, Kentucky common enough to be added? For zombies: Does it fit at least somewhat into Romero/Brooks zombie lore (the basis for 'proper' zombies)?   Posting your idea!   Time to post your idea, finally! (Finally? Oh come on it didn't take that long.) First, your title.   Titles should be short and they should give the basic idea of your suggestion. Three examples to show the extremes people go through with titles:   1: idea 2: Automobiles 3: Devs, add in cars now please and also buses and trains and tanks and bicycles and blimps and zeppelins and submarines and autogyros. Please don't ever make your title just your name followed by the word suggestions (Rathlord's Suggestions!).   Now on to writing the body of your post. Please follow the same basic principles of posting constructively in every forum. Use complete sentences, grammar, and punctuation. You may think it's a waste of time; it's not. It helps people understand you and makes people more liable to agree with you.   Responding to Criticism!   After posting an idea your job is only half done. It's now your job to listen to what the community and/or devs have to say about your idea. It's hard for anyone to listen to their idea being critiqued, but you should do your best to remain calm and positive.   If someone says your idea has been posted before: If they haven't linked a thread, ask them where. If they link you a thread and it's similar enough to your idea, you should consider deleting your thread and posting in the other one instead (even if it's old).   If people add things you enjoy to your thread: It's common courtesy to add things that other people suggest to your original post (for example, when discussing cars if someone mentions trains, and you like that idea, add it to your post using the "Edit" feature and mention that it was suggested by them, not you). This is a good way to make other people feel involved in your idea and help it be shaped by the community.   If people criticize your idea: Please listen to constructive criticism. I know it can be very hard sometimes, but many times people are just doing and saying what they think is right for the game. They may even be right sometimes. It's perfectly fine to have a back and forth banter discussing the idea, but if it becomes heated or you're both posting the same thing back and forth in circles it's a good idea to either stop responding to them or just leaving the thread all together. Sometimes that great idea just turns out to be a rotten egg- it's happened to the best of us.   If people start flaming you or your idea: Please do not respond in kind. It doesn't help anyone to flame back. If you feel they've stepped over a line or are bringing down an otherwise good idea, then report them to a moderator and move on (don't post "Reported" or anything like that- that's just another way of flaming). We all run into these people and the best thing you can do is remain calm and courteous. Most of the time, if you're friendly and firm, they'll get bored and leave.

Rathlord got a reaction from hunger john in Transgender/Non binary genders
This is pretty much what I'm saying.

Also, you're wrong on one thing: Choosing anatomical sex is not an agenda, point of view, or fallacy. There is no in between, aside from, once again, birth defects such as having abnormal chromosomes that cumulate in androgyny. There's nothing wrong with being androgynous, just like there's nothing wrong with having 6 toes, brown eyes, or being colorblind. Just because it exists is not a reason to add it to the game. Gender, on the other hand, is left solely to the whims of the player in PZ as is. This is a bare bones character creator. Asking for something as highly specified as this in a game with such simple characteristics, in this regard, is pushing an agenda.

Further, having sex (for pleasure or procreation), having children, rape, and the like are all on the list of confirmed no's. In a game that makes no attempts to deal with sexuality in any way whatsoever, saying (or implying) that it's "part of the problem" just because it wants to happily ignore some of the more controversial topics floating around is a really negative standpoint in my opinion.

This is slightly off topic, but I find the idea that the whole world and everything in it needs to be a billboard for every cause is distasteful to me. Perhaps there is a place for exploring this concept in video game media, but acting like it's the responsibility of every video game to push for change- of any sort- is wrong. Just like poetry, prose, architecture, song, paintings, sculpture, and every other form of art, it should be up to the creator whether they want the piece to be an expression of self, pure entertainment, or present some moral or value. I find it every bit as wrong as censorship to tell an artist that they must force a lesson on their audience.

Honestly, they're right. This game isn't a platform for touting any particular agenda. Consider the character creator as choosing a sex rather than a gender if you must. Realistically speaking, aside from birth defects, there are only two sexes. Pick the sex that you'd like your character to be, and roleplay the rest.

I get annoyed with this kind of stuff (in before being called a bigot) because it adds nothing to gameplay. It can be roleplayed, modded, or simply ignored. Spending dev time to try to emulate reality exactly just as some exercise in enforcing "equality" or "rights" is not what video games are for. I also don't appreciate games that overtly push political, religious, or moral agendas, either.

Video games are not here to prove a point, make a stand, or show up bigots. They aren't here to teach a lesson or improve the moral fiber of the world. Video games are to have fun, relax, tell a story, challenge us physically or mentally. You may feel like you want your particular agenda pushed everywhere it can be- and it's good to feel that way; however, this is not the place for it.

Before I'm accused of just being against this because I'm religious/bigot/ignorant/insertinsulthere, I want it made clear that I know more non-straight people than I do straight people in real life. I'm all for equality and freedom for everyone to do and be what they want, but there's a time and a place for making points and pushing agends, and video games are not that.

I think they're on the server list and not whitelisted, so you just find them on the list and join.

This disease really shouldn't kill the player anyway, beyond the most extreme. Uncomfortable, mentally disturbed, sure, but death seems like an odd sentence.

Adding a new Moodle for odour would be nice. I don't see why that can't  be done now. Adding mental effects (discomfort at the inability to maintain normality)  and new illnesses would also be good.

Piggybacking zombie infection or fake infection just doesn't sound like it's working.

Edit: Forgot to mention, any constructive criticism welcome.

As promised, some terrible poetry. The first is just a freeform poem, no rhyme scheme or rhythm. The shape of the poem and how it sounds are what I focused on. Bonus points if you can guess the subject material; it may not be super obvious from the first reading. Hint is the title.

And secondly, we have a proper poem with a rhyme scheme (and even an alliteration scheme). This one is somewhat autobiographical.

Really lovely skies zoey. I love basic nature art, it's the kinda thing I'd put up in my place.

On an unrelated note, I've been dipping back into writing again. I might post a poem or two here in a bit.

Next time maybe read my post before insulting me, especially given all of your arguments I'd already replied to in my post, but you didn't bother to read it. I've been around since Pong was the best thing out there. I played Myst on release, the game that inspired the entire adventure genre and arguably most of the video game industry in general. My first console game was the Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt cartridge.

You're right, some people always will be stupid. But you know what doesn't make you seem any smarter? Trying to discredit me with personal slurs rather than answer my points. If you actually think I'm wrong, read my post and argue the actual points instead of insulting me based on nothing. Mayhaps you lack the basic reading comprehension for that, but I suggest you start trying. If I see you post a post like this to any member of this forum other than myself, you will find yourself banned. Understand?

I wasn't going to reply to this, but these two lines are honestly just stuck in my brain.

What on earth are you actually talking about? If developers believed in their product they wouldn't take the risk of going bankrupt so they wouldn't do EA? How on earth does that make sense? Do you even understand how a business works, much less the game dev industry? You can't make a game without initial investment. You have to pay people- the people working for a company need to eat, have somewhere to live, have transportation, maybe even be able to buy christmas presents for their kids. Then there's business expenses- computers, software licenses, lawyer fees, etc. And of course constant overhead, like office space and supplies. None of that can be paid for by believing in one's product.

Most people don't have the capital sitting around to just start a small business, pay a bunch of salaries, and go for a few years without making any money. Thus, businesses need investment. They have a few options. First, to find a publisher. That's what AAA games have done, and many larger "indie" companies. However, if you don't have an established track record, this is essentially impossible. PZ is the first game by TIS as a studio. They could not have gotten a publisher. Second, you can go to a bank and ask for a loan. This is... possible, but requires putting personal assets on the line as collateral. As an individual, that's okay I guess? But as a company with no assets other than personnel, it would be insane to ask one member to put their house or other personal assets on the line for the company. Finally, we have the third option. For most other business, this doesn't exist, but for game companies, you have Early Access. It's a way to pay people's salaries while the game gets built. There are a lot of valid criticisms of EA, and I myself am not a huge fan (to date have purchased or backed 3 EA projects including this one, so far all three have been successes).

PZ wouldn't exist without Early Access. Not because the devs don't believe in it, but because that's how businesses work. For someone who throws around a lot of "in this generation" and "back in the day," you have a rather startling lack of understanding of basic business fundamentals. I'm not really trying to be an ass here, I just hate seeing stuff like this from people. Ten other people will see that and without thinking it through at all will leave this thread with the idea that EA exists because devs don't believe in their games, and that's frankly nonsense.

Edit: Also, Early Access devs still risk bankruptcy. I don't know what possesses you to think otherwise.
