Zombadger reacted to AlexHupsch in Mods I'm dying to see.
I've had this little top 3 list in my head for a little while now and wanted to throw it at the modding community. These are the 3 mods that I think would improve the gameplay the most (in no particular order):

    1. Horses: A big problem with getting around in PZ is the travel time on foot. If your going from Muldraugh to West Point, duuuuude, such a long walk. There have been mods attempting to address the issue, like the various car mods. Hydrocraft added horses to an earlier build, but since then the devs implemented a 3d engine to model the characters. It seems like something that is doable, having mountable horses. It would be fun to herd zombie hordes on horseback. It would be crazy to get swallowed by a horde while riding a horse, too.  Anyway, I hope someone will consider approaching it.

1b. Some kind of modding tools for the PZ3D engine. 'nuf said.

    2.  Zombie Mode... Mod: I don't know about the rest of you, but I die so much. So much of the time I spend dying.  And sometimes I find my character has died in an interesting scenario, and I just watch to see where it goes. But what would make that so much more fun, would be if you could control your shambling corpse. I want to be able to go bust in windows and knock down doors, maybe kill another survivor or two with the Survivors Mod (I love that mod). It would also be cool to be able to gather a horde with you as you go, depending on the settings for the zombies in that scenario.

    3.  Climbing!!!: I can't believe I almost forgot to mention CLIMBING!!!! Why is it there are ladders that you can't climb? Why can't you climb ropes? We need to be able to do these things! Someone, please! It's the one element missing in having true safehouses. you can take the stairs out, but you can't climb back up to that second floor, all safe and above the reach of the dead. This is the mod that everyone needs.

Like I said, I'm throwing these ideas out there, because I have them and I just hope we'll see mods like them someday. Thanks.

the with biclycles and cars and horses is they all use the same mechanic, if they were able to make a bicycle they would be able to make a car. I heard them say for horses it would be EVEN more difficult right now than cars because you have more animations ie. Horse running, horse moving it's head and what not at all angles, so it would be more difficult than cars. Trust me, horses will come eventually, along with cars.

The whole umbrella category of zombie variation really interests me. I was just about to post two ideas I had on that:

    1. I'd love to see more models used, i.e. child and overweight zombies.  Or have body parts be able to come off, like arms and legs.

    2. I've also been thinking about sound mods, especially for crying, laughing, and screaming/yelling zombies. I find the idea that reanimated corpses would have weird behavioral tics from randomly firing existing neural pathways super creepy.

    Because...

When it comes to the zombie apocalypse, nothing could be more terrifying than being chased by a bunch of laughing and/or crying child zombies. Or having an overweight corpse barreling at you full speed.

There is a story, told among the people of Muldraugh, when the nights grow long and the sickly winds blowing down from Louisville turn cold. Stories about a gaunt man with a big sack who you cannot keep out of your house during the winter solstice..  Nor should you. Those who try will find all the boards stripped from their windows. If you knock out your stairs you might wake up to the roaring of a dozen bonfires consuming your walls and roof. If you live, you'll find your crates have been voraciously gone through, stripped of anything useful or delicious.
Those that believe in the old ways have no fear of the gaunt man, however.
They know that a packet of cigarettes and a bottle of whiskey laid on the mantle with care is all it takes to keep him and his big, leathery sack away for another year. They will wake up to the merry sound of cans of corned beef being thrown against the wall. A Spiffo atop a case of jars with lids will be found alongside a glittering pile of various ammo if the children have been extra good and planted radishes in the fall.
    The gaunt man loves radishes.

    Name: Edward Waltzer
    Profession: Repairman
    Positive Traits: Dextrous, Stout, Handy
Negative Traits: High Thirst, Hearty Appetite, Slow Healer, Sleepyhead

Edward was no stranger to hard work. His love of his profession could only be matched by his love of twinkies (los submarinos). With his quick fingers, he could always find the right tool or component for the job at an instant. Despite unknowingly having diabetes, life as a plumber in West Point was good. It was. Until they came. Late for evacuation, in a dark house behind closed curtains, he could hear his neighbors being torn apart, one by one. A few days later, he was the only one around. Survival will be hard indeed.

Disappointment leads to despair.  Despair leads to the depression moodle.  Then while you are sulking around your base, you don't notice the zed sneak up behind you and bite your hand.  Then you sit in the candle lit bathroom with a gun to your head realizing the game updates weren't the most important thing in life.  While you wait to pull the trigger before the infection completely takes over your mind and body.

You know I read the update and I was like WOW this shit sounds amazing and it's coming very soon and I looked into comments and everyone is complaining. It seems strange to me it might be i'm more patient but every Mondoid is enough satisfaction for me and most of the time the highlight of my day (maybe it means i'm just sad) I don't care if it comes out next week or now, I just like it to be complete and done when it comes out.
Now you see i'm a VERY VERY Competitive person, you best believe i'll be there.

Personal preferences I find would have zero real world impact on an individual except in their own head. I'd find it tedious to have the game enforce something for me when I personally don't care and shouldn't have to make a choice. Why can't I like all color shirts and just appreciate the fact that my character won't die of hypothermia? Same with the food. Then again I'm a practical person in real life so maybe along with this you'd need a "practical" trait or something.

Anyone can write what they like in reviews. Just because someone says they've been banned for "telling the truth" doesn't mean that's what they're banned for. We've our fair share of trolls and caustic individuals, like any community -- and there've been times where we've banned people whom crossed the line from constructive criticism to outright abuse.

It's your choice to believe them, but I'd appreciate if you considered it from our perspective as well. We've no problem with people feeling the game is slow to develop or that there's a long period of time between updates (after all, with build 35 it's true -- this is the longest we've gone without a public build since releasing to Steam, and it's all due to the hope that animations could have been part of build 35). Calling us scammers, robbers, cunts and telling the devs that they're so incompetent that they should quit (despite having hundreds of hours in their game), and going after anyone that doesn't share their view, though? We're not required to give anyone a soap box to do so -- even if you choose to believe their narrative after the fact.

That's right -- and maybe if the wait is getting to you to the point where coming here week after week frustrates you and you feel you'd be better off playing another game,  why not do so? PZ will be here if you choose to come back, hopefully in a better state than when you left.

That's being real and honest. It may not be something you like to hear, but after seeing some people come back week after week and continue to escalate their behavior over it, expecting something different, perhaps they need to hear that it's OK to let go for a while.

It's just a game, in the end. It's meant to entertain you and, I hope it has, but being realistic, it won't provide infinite entertainment; you will get bored of it; you will move on to other games; and maybe, some of us will need to be told that when it's clear we're no longer having fun with it.

There's no disdain and I do not feel superior to anyone here, though I'll have to recognize that some feel my overly blunt style was aiming to wound. It wasn't intentional and I apologize.

Would you rather I lied and tried to encourage you to stay on, be patient, and wait for next week? (Paraphrasing from Neb's post, btw: "people to get bored ...  move on, loads more games to play.")

To me, that would be condescending.

Then get bored, move on, and go play other games. No one is forcing you to hang around here and it sounds as though you'd be happier stumbling upon PZ in a few years, when hopefully the waiting is over and a finished game is out, rather than waiting around week after week.

Animations, and any other features in progress, will take as along as they take. If that means talking about them for six months, being mistaken on the amount of work remaining, and getting felled from illness causes the timeframe to change from "soon" to "soon," then that's just the way it is.

(Some) of) it is beyond our control, Neb. We're, of course, (genuinely) sorry if we gave the impression animations would be out within six months, but understand we're in a rock and a hard place: we want to discuss the game and what we're working on and we want to be optimistic about our work.

We're going to continue talking about it  -- even if that means there's sometimes misunderstandings or mistakes in that process. This hasn't changed in five years. It's not going to change now.

Build updates are like fractures in game.  Just chill out, clean up the base and keep well fed until that leg is ready to go again.  Everything goes slower than expected in the Apocalypse.   Start rushing into things, and that'll get you killed.

If you’re a server admin, a habitual PZ player online or just someone with a spare evening who fancies some desperate survival you are cordially invited to:

The Great Big Build 35 IWBUMS MP Megatest!

New IWBUMS build 35.22b just released  - be sure to restart Steam if you haven't downloaded it already!

EDIT: IMPORTANT - even if you don't have a microphone PLEASE set your  Audio Options to 'Listen Only' in VOIP. We want you to be able to hear people!
Where's a place to chat about this?
    Discord!
    What time does it begin?
5pm GMT! (CET: 6pm, EST: Midday, PST: 9am)
How do I get the build?
Simply follow these instructions to unlock and install the current IWBUMS beta build of Project Zomboid.
How do I turn on the VOIP that needs testing?
Ensure you have headphones and mic plugged in and operational, then select your chosen set-up in the Options menu. VOIP is central to this test, so if you have headphones then please, please set it up.

    Which server do I join?
Go to the server list and join the server called [Official] [Event] Spiffospace IWBUMS. No password will be required.
    Where will I spawn?
To keep it nice and simple everyone will be spawning in the new Rosewood area.
What sort of stuff will we get up to?
Mischief and hijinks, hopefully! Redboid’s Hicks has very kindly pitched in to offer his Admin services – and is thinking about having a co-op prison clearance, and a faction-on-faction TDM fight to the death as the exciting season finale.
There will be PZ Steam codes as prizes, so people can fight for the right to spread the Zomboid love to one of their buddies. The last survivor standing, meanwhile, will be gifted a Steam game of their choice - anything up to the value of £40!
Where can we give the vital feedback you require?
Glad you asked! Either here in this thread, or if you need to discuss any issues or coordinate with other players then we have opened up this Discord channel.
What vital feedback do you need? That I will DEFINITELY supply?
VOIP. We need to know your thoughts on voice quality, preferred settings, audibility distance between players (though this is a server option) and general feedback on the use of use. Your thoughts on Factions. Press Escape to access the user panel, add discover a new system that lets you choose a  tag, a colour and to form very own survivor gang –  with it being your decision as to whether you reveal your allegiance to the players you meet, or not. This system also disables melee PvP between group members, which you can also turn off should you need to turn on your friends or the recently infected. Other general MP, gameplay and admin improvements. General thoughts really! What if I have problems?
Give everyone a shout in the Discord, and if your issue seems buggy/crashy then make a note of all useful info and the error read-out it’s showing you if there is one. This is still a beta build, so stuff may well crop up – but hopefully not too much.
What if I can’t play, but can watch?
Then from 6pm GMT the redoubtable Mark .exe will be streaming, and his Twitch stream can be found behind this link.
    Anything else?
Just have fun, and cross your fingers!

With implementation of proximal VOIP, this would be a cool idea to revisit. Could even be a skill that reduces own boredom while raising happiness in others, based on skill of the performer. Also could be used to intentionally call zeds out (trumpet call for instance).
