I grew up in a town of 300. Our water came from a tower. We had a storm once were the power was knocked out for a week. We go put on water rations, and had reduced pressure (water pressure was only from gravity and not boosted by the pump), but there was still water the whole time. Our water came from a reservoir about a click out of town. It was kept 'clean' by having fish live in it (they keep it moving and eat the bugs that grow in it). Weren't allowed to fish there though.

Mikhail Reign got a reaction from ZombiesLoveBrainiacs in Issue with vault system
Let me start off by saying I love the new ability to quickly vault over fences - works a charm. I do have some issues with it though. Its now particularly easy to inadvertently kill yourself. If you are running around on a second floor that has a railing (eg: the grated platforms in warehouses, catwalks, etc etc) it is now very easy to have your character suicide jump over the railing. I hadn't noticed this until I was building a catwalk around the top of a wall which was accessible via a offset set of stairs (see example picture)

Now normally I would place the seen fences at the top of the stairs so if you run up the stairs you wouldn't run off the edge. Now though once you reach the top of the stairs the player will automatically vault over the fence (and if you are encumbered as I was) to possibly to your death.

Now I'm not sure if its possible, but maybe something along the lines of a check would be in order? If you are on a layer higher then the ground floor, maybe to vault over a rail you would need to hold done the E button as you approach the rail/fence to vault it while at a sprint?

Mikhail Reign got a reaction from INoEmo in ORMtnMan's Real Guns Mod 1.242 [32.30]
Its threads like this that remind me how screwy yanks are with guns. I live in a town of about 150,000 - if every single person disappeared tonight, I think it would take me about a week of hunting to find a gun (excluding police stations and the 1 gun-shop that we have) and that gun would most likely be an old under/over shotgun from the 1950's. I'm sure that their would be a couple of collectors with a few price pieces, but they would be an outlier and not even close to being a minority. If you asked people in my country to name guns the answer you would get is 'pistol, rifle, machine gun' - hell you can't even buy a double sided knife here and you need a gun license to get a paintball market.

Then I read stuff like this, see videos on the internet and I'm just like 'holy shit you guys have a rager for firearms'. It seems like at least one in ten would own a gun of some type. Scary as hell.

Anyway, got nothing against the mod, use it myself to add some variance to the stuff you find in world. Its just that every time I see something like this it is just such a culture shock...

If i could run the generator off wood gas it wouldn't be a problem.

How come? At their not simplistic they are just something that floats. Giving that they would probably be working on a river, they could just be a raft, a.k.a anything that floats.

Balling your hands to make a fist is creating a tool. It required the knowledge that a fist will do more damage then a palm. Trying to break through a door instead of just through the wall requires the knowledge that the door will break easier and is a 'logical entry point'. Remembering that prey just ran around the corner and you should follow it, even tho its no longer in sight and not a stimuli, implies memory. Its not much a a stretch from making fist > picking up rock.

You read WWZ? How about the zed that dug in the desert for 5 days straight, never getting anywhere because the sand would fill in the hole, looking for a mole that was probably long gone...

Generally speaking zeds are very binary. They are either attacking prey, or they aren't. They don't normally have a 'I think I heard something' period.

Yup. If you are looking for a replacement to The Walking Dead, it ain't it. If you are looking for a few laughs and some stereotypical over the top zombie killing and one liners (they smash a bunch of zombies with The Liberty Bell - followed by "I'd pay money to see that again!") its definitely worth checking out.

This might be a little preemptive, but since it seems exceptionally likely that we will be able to have generators and/or vehicles in the future, I want to suggest being able to use a wood gasifier as an alternative to petrol.

For those that don't know what that is, it is basically extracting gas from wood via heating, which can then be used in combustion engines (or heating etc etc)

The process for doing this is very simple and well within the reach of the common man. Wood gas was used before natural gas to heat homes and the like. It was also exceptional common during the petrol shortages of WWII for people to construct them at home to be used to power their cars instead of petrol. They are still made and used all over the world today in many different situations.

The basics behind constructing a wood gasifier are:

A large container that can be opened and shut (think a 44Gl drum) with a one way valve leading from it. This is placed over a fire, filled with wood (or sawdust, coal or even rubber). The outlet of the one way valve is then ran through some piping to allow it to cool, then a filter (optional) and finally into the carburetor of the engine.

What happens is as the wood is heated, it releases hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which then pass thought the pipe, the filter and into the engine to be burnt in the combustion chamber as a petrol replacement.

Now as I said, these are an very easy thing to construct by the average man, and in fact, were constructed, en mass, by the average man during times of need. They could be used to fuel a small engine which then runs an generator to provide electricity, or even (as they historically were) hooked directly onto a car to provide a fuel alternative.

Well there is a pretty easy answer for that. Currently we use storm water drains and sewers to move water out of urban areas. They require constant maintence to keep movong that water. Once they choke up, then water would be pooling where it falls more.
For easy examples just look at the many places that humans now inhabit they originally was a swamp/marsh, and the content upkeep required to prevent it returning to one.

You can already grow on roofs. Sandbag, fill with earth, dump on roof, plant in it. I couldn't figure out if this was a suggestion and you didn't know if you could do that, or if you are trying to tell other people that you can.

The ability to weld metal together to make metal walls, door etc etc definitely needs to be added. A welder, be it MiG or arc are not a hard thing to find. Its not uncommon for the average joe to have a small mig welder in their shed, while any kind of industrial building would almost definitely have one or the other. Finally in a pinch, you can use a truck battery, jumper cables and some welding rods to get it done.

A wind turbine can be as simple as the alternator out of car, with some blades attached, hooked to a bank car batteries. It most definitely IS within the grasp of pretty much anyone with non-zombified braincells. It is one of the single simplest things to construct. My dad (a concreter by trade) and myself made one when I was a kid, with nothing more then car parts, that hung over our shed to power the lights. It worked with next to no maintenance for over 15 years.
