What i was saying is that having stuff like sleds, shopping carts and the like would make the game so much more enjoyable. One of my pet hates is barricading at the moment, because it takes so long ( and so many moodles!). A simple sled would allow me to travel with heavier objects, for longer distances. It also wouldn't take much coding (depends on how you do it).

One of the many strategies I've used, is rush with a buddy to a 2nd story building and barricade the door leading to the ladder. Sometimes there is a LOT of hordes waiting for me outside. It's kind of frustrating being able to see some of them but not being able to shoot.

So what if, When standing next to a window, if you shoot it shoots on the first floor.

This would work very well once, hunting rifles come out, you just sit on your safehouse, and if you see a zed. just Shoot.

I would also like to implement the idea of being able to peek and look down windows. Because sometimes that's where i'm jumping down to, and sometimes there's just zombies waiting for me there.

I considered that, but that would mean you, for instance, couldn't hold a flashlight and gun at the same time while wearing gloves. I didn't want too much interaction and fuzz with it. I might make them wearable if that is possible, or add some kind of icon on the screen to show the current protection (I might add more protection items later, like goggles or disinfectant sprays)

If I were looting a house  in zombie world I would always knock/hit on the door to be sure there are no zombies. Just like they do in the Walking Dead. It's simple and natural.

    +1 to this idea

LOL! I just wanted to stress out that the topic is kind of silly as the "Hey you!" form or hiting something is quite enough to get a Zed's attention. On that note i posted this as a jester because it would too be quite ridiculous to use on a Zed.

OT: Yea, Portugal's bull fighting has always been more of a sport for nobles where the fighter is mounted. The standard footed cape form usually recognized around the world is only practiced as a side-show between acts. So much so, that famous bull fighters (e.g. Pedrito) have to go to Spain to get real gigs. One way or another, driving a sword through a bull's spine if quite hard mounted and i guess aristocracy didn't much like doing it.
Today, the form of "Toiros de morte" translated to killing the bull is prohibited by law and is only allowed in a small village glued to Spain's border because of cultural and historic heritage.

Not a skull, and not what I said anyways. All I said was that PVC is a shitty analogue for a human skull- and it is.

Wrooooong. For one thing, as I already said, the internal structure of bone is such that it cracks much easier than slices. If you want to know why, actually read my post.

And for another, said tools (hammer, baseball bat) actually have curved edges also (not sure if you've ever used a hammer, but the head isn't flat- it's convex). Their surface area is obviously somewhat larger than a blade*, but not but a tremendous amount, and point #1 above illustrates why this is better.

Edit: **** I'm actually wrong about this. Surface area of a hammer is actually a fair bit smaller than that of a blade on a skull due to the length of the blade. The hammer puts out more force per area and does it in a way more likely to penetrate bone.

Can you please go back to the part where I said that a katana can't cleave bone? I don't seem to recall ever having said that- explicitly or implicitly.

Decapitation is a whole 'nother argument. It's easy enough to do with a heavy blade on a still victim using the force of gravity to chop vertically if you have a clean shot at a gap in the vertebrae. But actually cleaving through the neck in a combat situation with a horizontal chop is something that's grossly misrepresented by hollywood. It rarely, if ever, happened and is much easier to do with wide, extremely heavy blades like a Dao.

Trying to decapitate someone on the battlefield is actually fucking stupid- whether it's zombies or living warriors. It's a great way to get your blade stuck and cost you precious time trying to get it unstuck. The chances of success are slim, and it's not something a real warrior would ever do. Welcome to hollywood, baby.

    Thanks for playing, come again.

But this is all a moot point anyways, because slicing weapons are exponentially more likely to get stuck in the victim, making them tremendously inferior weapons from a realistic survival standpoint.

Common knowledge is often wrong. Also, you keep morphing around the discussion to suit your needs. A sword is much easier to deflect than a hammer. Also no we all obviously don't agree with your assessment, not that it matters. Popular opinion does not necessarily correlate with fact.

I'm not sure you understand how the universe works, mate. You don't get magically frozen in time if something is cutting you. Moving away from attacks is moving away from attacks- it works exactly the same, no matter what kind of attack it is.

Because you're moving away from it.

Irrelevant. Not that many cars actually get stolen, and of those the vast majority are stolen because the people stealing it found the keys.

Utterly irrelevant, there's already going to be a way to use cars. Using more just inundates the world with more, making what should be (later in the game, at least) a rare resource more common arbitrarily.

Adding things for the sake of adding things is not a reason to add them. You could add a T-Rex with laser machine guns on it's back. That's a whole new enemy, wow!

There's already plenty of good uses for tools, and plenty more plausible ones they could add in the mean time.

There's already a ton of important uses for a generator and a battery that just haven't gotten implemented yet. There's literally no reason to add another- they'd be tremendously important without this.

This could already just happen when trying to open car doors or accidentally hitting them with a weapon or bumping them while fighting. Again, no gameplay value added.

Say whatever you want, but I'm right because I said so in this sentence here! (Ya, that's pretty much the only counter for that kind of logic. Sorry)

All this without mentioning once again that in a small town like Muldraugh, there are no car thieves and thus the probability is high no one would know how to do this. It's okay, though, people have seen it on TV and that's a totally accurate portrayal so I'm sure they'll figure it out.

Anyways, how hard would it really be to generate particular keys for particular cars?  Each key could just have like an 8-character string (10,000 cars should be enough ) that's unique and matched to a particular car in the world.  A car can only be started with these keys if the strings match.

Make the keys spawn in one of three locations: inside the nearest house, on a random zombie nearby, or inside the car itself.  At that point the server's work is done and it's no more resource-consuming than any of the other loot that's sitting in containers constantly.  It's up to the player to track down the keys and try them on nearby cars.

The game is going to have your mental state affecting things. For example, the plan is for it to be possible for your character to go insane, and start hearing inanimate things talking to you. I'm not sure they'll use the exact system you've specified though.

As to vehicles being modular, I'm more OK with that than hot-wiring. But, personally, when I think of the zombie apocalypse, I think of cars trapped in grid locks and accidents -- there should be a point where vehicles aren't usable, aren't repairable, or aren't freeable.

I beg to differ on method 2 not working on things from the last two decades, It works on practically every car made in the up until the mid 90's. Also you're over estimating the number of "modern" cars in the PZ setting.

I did say modern cars will be hard if not impossible, that I grant you guys. Although it is very possible to hotwire old cars or just spoof a keyturn in them with things like butter knives or screwdrivers (and hammer, a drill in very few cases but it helps and could be a good use for it ain-game). It is not the major feat of engineering you might think, sure today it is significantly harder but not even in the 90's was it hard to find a way to steal cars. With trial and error it IS possible to ascertain the correct wires to use just as practice will yield better results in mechanically forcing a screwdriver into the keyhole, it is certainly even more viable when you have the owners manual, which is usually in the car itself and then still more pheasible with ample cars to practice the skill on..

I say this because and I quote:

So it is safe to assume the LCD screen (Flat panel early 2000's looking screen is what was referred to in the quote) does not yet exist (even though the flat panel LCD screen was invented in 1964). It is certainly not a definite point of time but it is a time-frame, thus my points of arguement that it is not a "bad idea" as you so charmingly put it.

So if the setting takes place in the 90's then there will be a myriad of 80's models about and even pheasibly 70's makes. Without nearly as many "Modern" ones as today.

Lots of talk all to say one thing:

For the average guy with normal skills, it would never happen. I already explained why trial and error doesn't work, but feel free to keep ignoring it. Bad point is bad.

Edit: Not to mention how very little gameplay value it adds per time spent coding and how annoying it would be to be part of something that furthers the ignorant stereotype that hotwiring a car is easy, which then makes people on the internet think they could do it... which brings us back full circle.

Aaaaand for the record, ECM's have existed since the early 80's.
