I was wondering if there was gonna be different kinds of infections and diseases? So far, from what I've seen, if you get an infection, its always a zombie infection. You could cut yourself on freshly broken glass and become a zombie. Or you could eat a rotten piece of fruit and become a zombie. That's kinda ridiculous, to me. I was thinking there could be different diseases and infections, in addition to several improvements on the medical system like using certain items that aren't medical in nature to treat wounds. Corn starch/meal and flour stop bleeding in real life, why not in the game? This could carry a risk of infection, of course, but again, turning into a zombie by stopping the bleeding is crazy. That's where more infection types come in. There doesn't have to be a lot, but it'd be great if it wasn't just "Infection = Zombie Virus." Maybe someone with medical training(through profession, hobby, reading books, etc) could identify the type and proper treatment for it. This has been bugging me for a long time, so I thought I'd post it.

Well, here's your problem: You want a game you can breeze through no problem, instead of the most realistic zombie survival sim there is. The devs have stated that they will increase difficulty, and that they are basing much of the lore on Max Brooks style zombies. I don't know about you, but this is probably the most accurate representation of what a real zombie apocalypse(Max Brooks style) would be. Firing a PISTOL is practically suicide in a zombie apocalypse. Now, I don't know jack squat about guns, but I'm pretty sure a pistol isn't nearly as loud as a shotgun, let alone a sawn-off. Plus, just because it's a suburb, doesn't mean there are no zombies in range of hearing you. Considering the level of sound a gun releases upon firing, and the distribution of population, even if you fired it on the edge of the map, as far from civilization as possible, with as much sound buffering as you could build, I'm pretty sure that at least 1 zombie would hear you. The devs have also stated that they would be balancing out the new build, and since it's only day 3 since it was released, I can't imagine that they've finished yet. Game development takes a very long time, which is one of the reasons why PZ is still in Early Access on Steam. If they didn't put the time and effort into making a quality game, supporters like us would get a crappy, bug filled, mashed together, cash grab of a game like so many other games out there. I suggest that you be patient with the hard working members of the PZ team. They'll get to lowering spawns(or at least balancing them), in due time. Also, try not to fire off a shotgun unless you're either trying to die, or trying to kill everyone in your vicinity in MP.

    TURN.
    ZOMBIE.
    COUNT.
    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
    DOWN
I Was in a muldraugh suburb.
I fired a sawed off shotgun.
And suddenly thousands of zombies swarmed out of everywhere.
Surely the residential district of muldraugh in the suburbs won't house that many.
    but also, it's ridiculously unfair.
What used to be 1-10 zombies is now 30-100.
    This is on normal spawns.
But it behaves like it's on insane.
You would have to have 17 terabytes of ram and a graphics card that uses more power in a second than new york city in a year to run it on insane.
on insane, there would not be hordes, there would be all zombies and tiny pockets of empty space where they have not engulfed.

Why would you need to move furniture for that? Why not just put the corpses in position, and set them on fire with a campfire/molotov/fire bomb/etc?

    Count on Me!
    Created by Austin

    Introduction:
Hello everyone! It has definitely been awhile since I have worked on any sort of mod for Project Zomboid or even any other game. I've since the abandonment of my first two mods, Fletchery and the We Need More Guns mods, been thinking about revamping them or maybe even making a new mod. I thought out a pretty good idea for the new mod but I never got myself to even begin working on it..until today. Of course I am a bit dry when it comes to working with Lua and Project Zomboid but I figure that won't be a problem and I plan on working with it a bunch this weekend. Now..onto what the mod is going to be..

    What is this s**t?:
Count on Me is going to be an addition to the medical part of Project Zomboid. Think making your own medicine from herbs and cutting your arm off. Maybe even studying dead zombies bodies? Figuring out how they died? My goal with this mod is to add more story to the game and more shit to mess around with honestly.. I can't really go into more information because I don't necessarily have all the answers and the mod entirely planned out yet.

    When???:
I've already started progress on the mod but don't expect a whole bunch of progress in the first couple of days. I definitely need to warm back up in Lua before large portions of progress are made. After that I believe in about 4 days I should have a "playable" version of the mod out. I'll start with some of the simpler(herd medicine) parts of the mod first before I begin the more complex parts(limb removal). After school tomorrow i'll make the list of things needed to be done for all of you whom wish to follow the development of this mod can follow it a bit easier. I'll update it every time I finish something.

    Progress List(red-haven't started, yellow-working on, green-finished)
Item Database & Research Item Integration(bound to expand) New Skill(bound to expand) Limb Removal & "Replacement" Corpse Expansion(bound to expand) ect..(will definitely expand as mod progresses   ) Anyways everyone, thank you for reading and i'm sorry if for some reason I wasted your time. This shit took awhile to type so don't be mad, it annoyed me too.

    edit: Added the "list'

sorry for my grammar nazism but I definitely agree. It could be like a way to maybe breed fish far away from lakes, which is what I really want right now, as I am based in the center of Muldraugh, and don't want to have to travel super far to get fish.

How did a thread about fish tanks turn into debating whether or not a zombie dies when decapitated?

For the record, though, according to Brooks lore(I don't know Romero lore) you must destroy the white matter of the brain in order to "kill" a zombie. Anything else will be ineffective from a killing standpoint.

Now, I know animals are going to be implemented. I know dogs are going to be implemented. This is for when animals will be released. I was thinking, why not be able to train wild animals? Sure, it would be hard and time consuming to do, and it may not always work out, but if you were to succeed, then you'd have a companion to weather out the undead storm.

I'm a huge fan of Shepherd's Crossing, which is where I originally got this idea from. In Shepherd's Crossing, you could obtain animals like Boars, Roosters, Cats, and even Cows, and use them to hunt. Now, my idea isn't an exact replica of this, as that wouldn't fit into PZ(I mean, can you imagine finding a cow in the woods and training it to hunt rabbits? That's just preposterous!). I'm thinking each animal has it's own special skills, i.e. Dogs make great hunters, Boars make wonderful foragers, etc etc.

I've looked into the Kentucky wildlife and have come up with some ideas for the animals, and the service(s) they might be able to provide:
    Wild Boar (Foraging/Defense)
    Coyote (Hunting/Defense)
    Kestrel (Hunting/Recon)
    Black Bear (Hunting/Defense)
    Bobcat (Hunting)
    Weasel (Hunting/Foraging)
    Raccoon (Fishing/Foraging/Scavenging)
    Skunk (Defense/Foraging)

Now, I know most of you are saying, "Bears/Skunks/Raccoons/Etc?! Are you stupid?!" Actually, I'm not. If you think about it, every animal on this list has been kept as a pet at one point. While most of them may not be trainable once they mature, if you obtain one at a young enough age, they will follow you as if you were there mother. Here's where some of the balancing comes in. In order to obtain say, a bear cub, you'd have to either A. Kill the mother, B. Steal the cub, or C. Find an orphaned cub. You're chances of killing a black bear protecting it's young are slim at best, and stealing the cub would alert it's mother due to all the noise. Finding an orphaned cub is highly unlikely as well, though much more likely now that the dead have risen. This balances out the extreme strength of the bear. The chance of domesticating a wild animal would depend greatly on not only a skill introduced for this, such as Taming, but also on the age of the animal. Plus, anyone could do this, even an "Average Joe" which you are portrayed to be in PZ.

Also in an attempt of balancing, each animal could be more or less difficult to obtain(not accounting for baits and traps), and more or less difficult to train. Feel free to modify these difficulties. For example:
Black Bear: Young are very difficult to obtain, but somewhat easy to train. Adult are nearly impossible to obtain, and train.
Wild Boar: Young are somewhat difficult to obtain, and average difficulty to train. Adult are the same.
Coyote: Young are average difficulty to obtain, and easy to train. Adult are average difficulty to obtain, and somewhat easy to train.
Kestrel: Young are difficult to obtain, and average difficulty to train. Adult are nearly impossible to obtain, and very difficult to train.
Bobcat: Young are difficult to obtain, and average difficulty to train. Adult are very difficult to obtain, and difficult to train.
Weasel: Young are average difficulty to obtain, and easy to train. Adult are average difficulty to obtain, and somewhat easy to train.
Raccoon: Young are difficult to obtain, and somewhat easy to train. Adult are the same.
Skunk: Young are difficult to obtain, and train. Adult are very difficult to obtain, and difficult to train.

Here is a more in depth version of the animal's roles:
Wild Boar: Can forage for berries, fruits, nuts, mushrooms, insects, etc. Can protect you from NPC's/zombies.
Coyote: Can hunt for rabbits, mice, other small animals. Can protect you from NPC's/zombies.
Kestrel: Can hunt for rabbits, mice, other small animals. Can scout ahead in the air and be taught certain maneuvers signifying certain conditions.
Black Bear: Can hunt large animals such as deer and elk, as well as other animals such as coyotes and wild boar. Can protect you from NPC's/zombies.
Bobcat: Can hunt rabbits, mice, other small animals, as well as large animals like deer, and elk. They usually hide from danger, so they won't protect you.
Weasel: Can forage for berries, nuts, fruits, insects, etc. Can hunt for small animals like rabbits, mice, etc.
Raccoon: Can forage for berries, nuts, fruit, etc. Can fish for minnows, crustaceans, and frogs. Can sneak into houses and scavenge things from within.
Skunk: Can forage for berries, nuts, insects, etc. Can protect you from NPC's.

Boars are omnivorous. They regularly forage for worms, roots, fallen fruits and nuts, mushrooms, and yes, insects.

Again, these exact animals wouldn't have to be implemented. I understand the bear and coyote are a stretch, so they could be omitted. However, the others would be a bit more realistic.

    I understand you concerns.

While the "Average Joe" may not know the specifics on animal training, they know at least the basics, i.e. scold for bad behavior, reward for good behavior. While that may not be effective every time, for every animal, that is why I proposed a skill for it. By using trial and error, you can figure out what works best and what doesn't work at all, thus raising your skill. Now I'm not saying as a level 5 Animal Tamer you can tame an adult bear with no difficulty, that would be extremely unrealistic. However, it would definitely be easier than if you were level 0.

As for the time scale, it could be achieved. The player might be required to gradually gain the animal's trust through various actions, for example. Or, if acquired young enough, the animal would imprint themselves onto the player, thus drastically reducing training times.

This would also provide the Park Ranger profession with some much needed relevancy, as they would know how to deal with wild animals.

People have done it before, they just have to get the animal at a young enough age. That's why taming an adult bear is nearly impossible.
