PoshRocketeer reacted to Maverick99 in Boredom/More Entertainment
Boredom is something that I personally find more obnoxious than anything else in game. Admittedly it's not a huge problem if you're constantly fighting zombies and getting panicked, or if you're privy to consuming books constantly. For example: I'll be laughing hanging around my group of 4 and mysteriously my character becomes bored, or I'll just take a minute break after almost being consumed by an entire horde and I'll see the cursed Moodle. The best way to get around this weird boredom problem is to make some additions or tweaks to entertainment. My proposed solution is just allow us to entertain ourselves more than Magazines and Books. Occasionally there are checkers around named "Game Pieces" items like this should be able to be used. Maybe we can find a board and play some checkers with a teammate? Or even a round by yourself, (could be less rewarding if you play yourself) Musical instruments are also present around the map, so maybe we could strum a guitar a few times to eliminate our boredom? Maybe blow into a saxophone and sooth the zombies with some sexy jazz. Rimworld also comes to mind during this nitpicky suggestion, we can make a horseshoe pole and play it for a reduction to boredom; at the cost of finding a magazine or an already built pole. Maybe we could have some more objects like this in game. A few games come to mind, Hop scotch if you find some chalk, That weird sport with a ball on a pole you could do with some minor metalworking skills and even skipping rocks across a pond for some childlike fun (Could even give you more entertainment the better your aiming skill!) . In general boredom is something that is just an annoyance, there could be some more ways to ward it off.

PoshRocketeer reacted to batmap in 420/Weed/Tobacco Farming for Edibles & Cigarettes
This is not a new suggestion, so take this with a grain of salt. Not trying to necro old suggestions, like:
Weed/marijuana farming might be paired with tie-dye wearing pacifist or specialty cook, to keep your friends and yourself happy, paranoid, and hungry for snacks. Consuming weed products at 0420 on the clock would give you a bonus to happiness, paranoia, and hunger; or idk, maybe devs are trying not to introduce drugs/etc that can be political issues in some areas of the irl world.

Pot brownies and rolled weed cigs (would need new recipe for brownies and new item: cigarette papers (actually, tons of paper is already in-game); maybe tobacco seeds also, to replenish cigarettes with farming) are non-perishable food, but the sources like the tobacco and weed plants can rot if not harvested; the products once harvested must be dried after harvest to become non-perishable item. So, I suppose a baking tray could be used in an oven to dry the harvested tobacco and weed leaves (maybe 250 degrees for 1 hour). Otherwise, some sort of drying rack or crafted item to dry them on would need to be added to game.

As far as the weed papers goes, if the current in-game 'paper' items are not a viable use for rolling tobacco/weed from farming, maybe put a bunch of paper (maybe 40 sheets of paper) in a cooking pot of water, cook in oven for idk a couple hours, pour the wet paper slurry on a baking tray, bake that for 30 minutes, then use knife to cut into maybe 20 strips of cigarette papers. Then combine cigarette papers with harvested tobacco or weed.

Am I way off or does any of this make sense?

PoshRocketeer reacted to ZombieHunter in Making Electricial more Useful ( Powerboxes + Sheds + fuses )
One thing that can add more freedom to the player is the idea of Fuse Boxes + Junctions
These are Divided into Regional Junction which powers an entire neighboorhood
Local Fuse Box - which powers a large building or complex.

A Regional Junction makes it easier for map designers so they don't need to manually add fuse boxes in every single building.
So a bunch of small buildings can be powered by 1 - 3 Regional  regional junctions.

So a player may need to investigate multiple junctions to see which one is broken to fully restore power to the nieghboorhood.
For Large buildings - the Fuse box is located outside the building somewhere but usually needs a key to open.

The idea behind both are the same. If damaged the area they support loses power
Over time these can get randomly damaged - so instead of a fixed time entire state loses power.  These boxes instead randomly are broken or not.
Allows player to restore power to a neighborhood or building.

The "repairing" part can also be a unique minigame which requires placing parts in correct slots
The "quality" of parts is dependent on your electrical skill.
The quality determines how likely it will break again.

In PvP - it means people could disable power to an area.

It's not just knives, actually. You have a better chance to knockdown with any weapon when they're unaware.

My biggest gripe with the game is the way fighting zombies who are on the ground goes. It's WAY too common for hits to just kinda... not, when fighting zombies who are climbing through windows, knocked down, or crawling/lunging It's only gotten me killed a handful of times in arguably avoidable situations,  but when you take a risk to finish a downed zombie and they just don't take any damage from hits that very clearly should have hit them, it's frustrating even if you come out of it fine. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Should you avoid fence-fighting or taking risky swings at downed zombies? Absolutely. (it happens on non-risky swings too, btw.)

Should you be punished by a random critical miss for doing it? Certainly not.

nowadays everyone who has a mouse that has auxiliary buttons for the thumb, but on zomboid I can't use them as a keyboard shortcut, it would be great if I could use the auxiliary buttons as shortcuts to put the action I want in the game , for example, and I wanted to put the button to run faster on the button of the thumb, and click with the middle one to open doors replacing the "E" and etc... each one would put as they like.

PoshRocketeer reacted to Zombiologist in Rocket stoves
The antique wood fired stoves found around the game are nice, but many people opt to heat with their own home made wood firing options. A very popular method for those with welding skills is to convert a 55 gallon drum into a rocket stove, which can burn wood more effeciently than the traditional cast iron wood burners so you need less fuel to run them. They also weight a bit less and are easier to move around when needed. Depending on how you build it they can also be used for cooking, boiling water, heated flooring, a homemade hot water heat, and quite commonly to make a heated bench or bed (done so that more heat is taken from the pipes and radiated into the house rather than being expelled from the chimeny). Anybody who can weld and has the basic materials could easily make a rocket stove, so I think it's within the scope of what an average person could make during the zombie apocalypse.

The problem with towels is that they have a strong tendency to shed, especially when they get wet with something that clumps (like blood), would absolutely stick, and don't wash well.

PoshRocketeer reacted to Shortbuscapn in Weapon Swapping
So this may have come up before but I couldn't find it.

My suggestion is simply to make a check box that allows you to swap the weapon "attach to back" with your current weapon.
For instance you are carrying an axe killing zombies and you start getting overwhelmed; you have a gun attached to your back so you pull it out causing your axe to be equipped to back instead of the gun.
After you finish with the bulk of the zombies you swap back to the axe without having to open your inventory.

PoshRocketeer reacted to Bullet_Magnate in Antique Metal Hand Pumps
Might be nice to add a few of these to rural places on the map, or replace some / all of the stone wells with them.  I've spent some time in farm country in the midwest USA, and old metal pumps like these are WAY more common than functional antique stone wells (most of which have been torn down / filled in, or are purely decorative non-functional items).

Downside to these metal pumps is you actually have to "prime" them by pouring a little water into the top first, or they won't work.  So, if you found one when you had zero water on you, you'd still be out of luck.

If by "mechanical turrets" you mean mounting a weapon of some sort, then it'd be a cool thing but probably not something the devs are looking to add.

If you mean automated sentry guns, then that's a hard no.

Also, "Apocalypse" is literally the default mode of the game, how the heck did you mess that up?

I agree with you, but just saying "unrealistic" is a really bad argument, and makes you come off as a little childish.  Zomboid is not a realistic game in any capacity, and if we removed everything unrealistic there would be very little game left. Please give him actual gameplay reasons.

It conflicts with the design methodology of the rest of the game. You're intended to keep an active count on your ammo yourself, the HUD is designed to be a stopgap to give you only the most necessary information that you couldn't get otherwise. You can hover over your weapon in the hotbar or in your equip slots to see how much ammo it has pretty easily.

If you really want, you can download a plethora of mods that add exactly what you want. Zomboid is designed to be a very modular experience, so tailor it to how you want to play it. I did the same thing when the buggy durability indicator was removed, immediately went and got a mod that added a better one than the original, since I felt it was important enough to be on the HUD. I highly doubt they'll add an ammo counter, since they're adament against a weapon durability indicator.

This game is less about helping you keep track of ammo, and more about laughing at you when you hear an unexpected "click" because you counted wrong.

100% a function like this is more a mod than a vanilla feature.

Coming from someone who has actually shot themselves in an attempt to off themselves, stop being offended for me and my loved ones, please. It's insulting and doesn't make you come off as righteous as you hoped. It makes me extremely uncomfortable to play No More Room in Hell and see a first person perspective of shooting yourself. Seeing the end of a barrel is "triggering" for me, even in fiction, do I play it anyway? Yeah of course I do, it's fun. If you can't stomach it, then don't play, it's not for you. If you can't handle that, then you wouldn't have been able to handle the rest of the game either, because it's just as dark.

Going into a gritty, realistic take on the zombie apocalypse, I and anyone who is going in should 100% expect suicide to be a recurring theme, whether it be through gameplay or exploration or otherwise. It is not unreasonable to expect people to use even the most basic of critical thinking skills when stepping into something like this.  Sheltering people from the narrative because the narrative makes people uncomfortable is invariably bad, and dilutes artistic expression.

When talking about suicide saying someone is squeamish or not about it is maybe missing the point. It’s maybe not about whether or not they can stomach it.

Worldwide, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for people ages 15-24. Over 800,000 people take their own lives every year.

No one has ever faced zombies. None of us ever will. It’s not reality and it never will be. However, for some people, dealing with loved ones committing or trying to commit suicide or having their own suicidal thoughts is very much their reality.

Yes, suicide can fit within PZ and suicide is often a part of zombie stories (RIP Carl!), but some tact and empathy needs to be applied to adding something like suicide to a game and should only be done with great care. Devs approaching this cautiously is prudent, and having options to disable it in the game is an obvious thing that should be done.

Suicide is real and it affects real people.

The dude's being considerate to people who can be affected by these things, which is a lot. Gore isn't the same as something that can happen and affect people pretty commonly nowadays, because gore is over the top so having a warning is almost a guarantee.
