    With the approval of Suomiboi I created a objects.lua so that the new forage-function can be used with this map.

    I have absolutely no clue if I did it right, so please report any bugs or give me some advice.
    Anyway, here is the file. Simply drop it into the "Zomboid\mods\VineGrove\media\maps\Vine Grove, KY"-folder.

    Provided that the new difficulty settings are tweakable in the sandbox, I see this as a good idea, however I think  PZ needs a proper tutorial, not something that goes over every little mechanic, but just the essentials. A way of ensuring that new players have a starting point and can build up from something rather than being dropped into a world and being forced to survive.

    With all the major difficulty shakeup going on, as well as some people's expectation to be able to survive Survival, how about this?
    Instead of all these game modes ballooning out the main title screen, how about we have:
    START GAME, STORY, MULTIPLAYER
    and that's IT... (story obviously added when Bob/Kate reintroduced)
    then when you click START GAME, it pops up a menu that has options, defaults on beginner, and each has some text accompanying it (not exact text of course ):
    BEGINNER - If you're a new player, start here. Trust us, this game is brutal. Don't get cocky. Find your feet here or stress and humiliation will ensue. Etc.
    SANDBOX - For the intermediate player. Choose from presets, or customize every aspect of your game to your skill level or playing preferences. Etc.
    SURVIVAL - The true, brutal and bloodthirsty Zomboid survival challenge. It takes no prisoners, so don't expect to survive for long. How many days can you last?
    LAST STAND - Blah last stand blah. Quick dose of BAM zombies everywhere eek.
    They are ordered (except last stand) as such as a natural progression for players as their skills improve, and Survival is sufficiently put on a 'pro' pedestal to make failure at it not seem like failure of the game. Sandbox could default to a preset that's halfway between beginner and survival (while offering multiple presets for varying levels of skill / preferences) and have more information to convey their intent and difficulty. Survival is less stigmatized for being silly hard because its blatantly obvious that's what it is. people are less likely to click it without being aware of exactly what its point is or what pain they are potentially unleashing on themselves.
    We then make the SURVIVAL survival time on death specifically say 'ON SURVIVAL MODE' to make it clear (perhaps adding a check for expected checksums to ascertain if the files have been modded, and reporting that. As such giving us back our survival time competition that was lost as the game's difficulty waned. Also we make survival mode force a new game world on each new game. Each game starts at day dot, and you can't stack multiple characters on a single world. It's a true competitive game mode again, as it's always an equal footing start point.

    Yep that's planned - one was even half made at one point but fell by the wayside (and will be out of date before long anyway) but in the meantime reorganizing what we have is the only choice available

    Installation directions: just extract the files in your %username%/zomboid/mods -folder and enable the mod from the pz mods options window (you might have to restart the game). There's a readme file included with the instructions. The map should work at least from build 28 forward.
     
    I'd prefer any/all bug reports as PM rather than here on this topic. Thanks!
     
    Also this is not me abandoning the project. I've had so few bug reports that I've decided that the map is pretty much playable as is and there's really no reason to hold it back from any of you. Also since I can't come up with the improved version as quickly as I thought, I wanted to give this for all those who have supported the project so far. Thanks a bunch guys and gals!!!

    Hello everyone

    The Team is working hard to give the community a good map with alot of love put into it. Anyone who is interested in joining the team in doing custom sprites, and buildings is welcome to join. We are doing this not for the team but for the community of PZ, we want this game to expand more and have more variety of places to explore. We promise the community the map will be fun, and maybe in two months or less ( depending on time, and school) you will be exploring the north side hoods, or centeal city avenues. Lets not forget the metro rail system implemented in the city to evade walking through streets filled with undead. This is a good project for all to enjoy and play with friends on friday nights multiplayer coop.

    If anyone would like to help in donating buildings, or officially become part of the team, please contact any of us in the top. With the help of the community the faster we can finish this map as a team.

    -Team members will test the alpha and beta stages of the map-

    Happy late Mondoid everyone and welcome back to follow the progress of the Community project: Radcliff.
     
    Today I have a sligthly different Mondoid post since I'm going to show you just one (in addition to above) picture and ask for some help.
     
    As some of you following are probably guessing, Vine Grove and it's immediate surroundings are finished!! That would be a total of 12 cells (4x3) with well over 400 unique buildings, ranging from farms to a town hall, from baseball fields to gazebos. And to top, tons of farmland, woods, rivers ponds etc. to roam around.
     
    Now what does it matter? Nothing, unless you want to join me in beta testing the full Vine Grove area. If you want to help get the map out, PM me and I'll send you a link for the map. I'll start that process when I've slept through the night and will hopefully not regret posting this. . .
     
    Now a few ground rules: I would appreciate if beta testers would not distribute the map or stream it publicly. That's basically it. Also please be lovely in general. <3
     
    What I would like from you is to first and foremost, find and report any/all bugs you find to me via PM (I don't want to clutter this thread too much). If you feel a bit more up for it, try to find everything that seems a bit off. Eg. a house without a sink or a toilet or an office without tables or wrong spawns etc. Prefarably send me pictures of the building, describing the problem and use Robomat's coordinate viewer to post the building's location, as there's a ton of buildings and however unique they are, I don't remember all of their locations.

    When the beta phase is through I'll post a new topic with the full, hopefully bug free, Vine Grove area in the mapping section.
     
    Oh, and to add, the map is, atm, standalone and will not be connected to the vanilla map yet.

    Ok, here we go again! Happy Mondoid and welcome back to follow the progress on this all too much life consuming project!
     
    I'm happy to say that progress has been plentiful and that's mostly due to my little helper Valindil who's been furnishing my buildings with amazing speed! A big thanks for you man! He's so far furnished 3 packs of buildings with over 30 buildings plus some buildings of his own making. That means, I've been able to focus more on the neighborhoods and more specialized buildings, that I've wanted to do.
     
    This has yielded some great progress so why won't we just get to the pics!?! Well let's!!

    The old NPC system had a three teir "emotion" scale which would allow the player to choose how he acted. Will this system be returning with the new NPCs? How will it work?

    Would be fun to see different NPC groups call zeds different things. I'm rooting for someone to call them Deadles, like K'Z'K does.
