In my opinion Id rather keep this a zombie game then a health simulator, I dont want to deal with zombie migration and barricading my fort while counting calories and making sure Im getting enough iron in my diet lol

Updated the OP with more Erosion infos !

TurboTuTone's awesome Erosion mod is now part of the game. Erosion introduces seasonal changes to the look of the world, as well as increasing the growth of vegetation over the environment as time passes.
Stuff you can expect to see includes:
11 types of tree. Each tree comes in 4 different sizes. Some trees lose their leaves in the fall. 11 types of bush. 17 types of plant. Some plants have flowers that bloom depending on the season. Wall vines creep up some outside walls, sometimes growing over windows. Wall cracks appear on some outside walls. Cracks in street pavement slowly appear. Some cracks will have grass growing out of them. Snow covers the world on below-freezing rain days. Snow slowly melts away on days when the temperature is above zero. It's Kentucky though, so only expect about 12 days of snowfall per year. All the new objects will appear over the first 100 days, although some may continue to develop after 100 days. There is a sandbox setting that allows you to choose the initial amount of growth (from Never to 100). Each world has its own erosion configuration file that can be edited to change the rate of growth (more or less than 100 days) as well as other variables.

Mr. Monkey reacted to Realmkeeper in Dirty Water and Saltwater - get sick by drinking from the toilet / rain barrel, collect water from rivers
I feel the need to announce that the 'correct' name for the toilet 'reservoir' is Cistern.
A reservoir is generally considered a large water storage facility, and is often outdoors.
A cistern on the other hand, is usually a smaller immobile water vessel.

The main point of difference between the two is their size, implied by their etymology (Origin of the word).
Reservoir is derived from a French term for 'storehouse', whereas Cistern is derived from Latin and Greek words for 'box' and 'basket'.
Thus a Reservoir generally stores large quantities of liquid, such as a pool or town water supply, and a Cistern stores smaller (often measured) quantities of liquid such as a rainwater collector or a hot water cylinder.

Knowledge is power! (and I was getting bothered by people referring to the toilet cistern as a reservoir)

Just a little thing that is annoying me. Shouldn't there be a vault in the Knox bank?  Just a little thing but the lack of it annoys me. In the vault could be money that you could frolic through , then remember  that it means nothing anymore.

Good evening from a rain-soaked England, and welcome to the fourth ‘Ask Project Zomboid Developers The Indie Stone Anything!’. And what does that boil down to if you only use the first letter of every word?

    Audience: “APZDTISA!”

    God bless you all!

Right, some housekeeping before we get to developer answers from the Zomboid community. First off, if you haven’t seen the announcement about the current status of our in-game server listplease have a read.

Second off, check out Blindcoder’s amazing new map function: you can see inside houses!

Third off, because we had so many awesome questions we’re going to break with tradition and split this
APZDTISA into two separate Mondoids (we know!). So if you don’t see your much-liked question appear below, we don’t hate you – it might just be waiting till next week for its time to shine. Or, we might hate you. That’s just the risk you run round here.
With that in mind: on…. with… the… SHOW!

Will the new canon be very different from the existing one? Where do you plan to take it?
WILL: It’s different, but not wildly different. I still want the area around the ‘Knox Event’ to be an exclusion zone at first, so you survivors can listen in on news reports as the world begins to fall apart – and then goes ominously silent. As far as the official canon goes, players won’t ever actually know what happened – there’ll be plenty of rumours and opinions shared by  the survivors you meet but you’ll never come across a laboratory with a broken vial on the floor and the words ‘Oh no! I dropped the vial!’ written on the wall in scientist blood.

Will water become passable/swimmable at some point and how would zombies interact with it, submerging like in some Romero lore or avoid it.
BINKY: It’s difficult to answer that since it would need various additions/changes from the engine itself. I can say that ideally the water would be swimmable to some degree but I wouldn’t want to confirm that at this stage.

When will things like backpacks, raincoats, hats etc be visible on the character? (theres only so many times that purple sweater can look good)
BINKY: Yes, more clothing – backpacks, props, stuff like that. Yes, definitely.

Will the mod community be able to mod NPCs? And will NPCs be procedurally/randomly generated, or will they be true “characters” with their own preset background story and behavior? Or a combination of both?

LEMMY: The mod community will be able to mod the NPCs behaviour in the meta game completely. That is overarching decisions they make, their opinions of other people, and the things that happen to them, the things they choose to do in situations etc. All this is completely open and editable with XML.
In the first release, at least, it would not be possible to mod combat behaviours, what order they explore rooms when looting, how they interact with their inventory, or other lower level functionality without decompiling. We have a plan however to open even this up in time using lua constructed behaviours and leaf nodes.
Regarding whether NPCs will be procedurally/randomly generated, or will be true characters. They will be both. You may walk up to a random house that’s never been visited before and meet a random NPC group with a random brother and sister, or a group of random thugs, or a group of friends, or whatever. They are totally random.
On the other hand, if you were to go to Bob and Kate’s house then they would be there too, with the AI taking control of Bob and all the player choices available. Depending on how far away the player was, and how much time has passed since the start of the game, the player may find them listening to the radio in that very safehouse bedroom, or if it took weeks to get there, you see Kate running down the road with another group and wonder ‘what the hell happened there?’.

We all understand by now that there are certain ways to avoid your character getting bored in the game, be it cutting a tree, do inventory management or read a book. But what about actual players? Aside from the much anticipated NPCs and “The Governor”, do you plan to implement anything else that will keep the actual player entertained throughout the ‘Sims’ stage, when we manage to build a good safehouse and only have to care about our crops and water barrels?
ROMAIN: Zombie migration is already in there to help that, but we definitely need to add more end game content – more complex crafting (perhaps even a few things that could require more than 1 player/NPC), electrical generators and repairs, more skills to develop etc.

Is an overhaul of the health and medicine system in the cards for pre-1.0 release?
ROMAIN: Yup, it’ll probably not be for build 29, but probably for build 30. Many things are planned for this – more wound types (burns, bullet strikes, heavy bleeding, bone breaking etc), and many new ways to treat them like alcohol-doused bandages and splints. There’ll also be a new doctor skill that will let you search for medicinal plants and craft new medicines with them (it’ll be less efficient than the current medicines in-gane, but would be used to deal with food poisoning, as a painkiller etc.)

Will we ever see animals roaming around?
BINKY: Again, ideally yes. We posted a work-in-progress pic of a rabbit aaaaaaages ago for example, but there hasn’t been time as of yet to finish that off and get it in the game.

What animations are being worked on? I think top priority should be something like crouching and searching around in the backpack when doing backpack inventory management, hugging the walls and maybe a longer walking and sprinting animation?
BINKY: Er, you’ve kind of answered your own question thereI agree. Plus the aforementioned combat anim expansion. Whenever we look at expanding the animations we generally prioritise things which have clear gameplay ramifications. Crouching, sneaking, peeking round corners, etc certainly fall under this category. So does expanding the combat anim range. Inventory searching is more of a cosmetic animation but I agree it would be nice to see.

The old NPC system had a three tier “emotion” scale which would allow the player to choose how he acted. Will this system be returning with the new NPCs? How will it work?
LEMMY: No this system is not coming back. We’ve instead introduced actual conceptual choices that can either be picked by a player, or picked by an NPC in a similar situation. These won’t necessarily be dialogue options but are in many cases when that is what the choice boils down to. These won’t be liberally used but will be in situations where important decisions are to be made that may impact things heavily. Do you order the execution of the guy you just mugged? What will the witnesses think about that? Will they comply? It all comes down to their personalities, how much you’ve learnt of their personalities, and what you can surmise about their characters and relationships.

Can we have a chainsaw? Pretty please? lol I PROMISE to use it responsibly! (that’s a fib, I’m sorry. I’ll probably run amok with it, tearing through zombies and doors alike)
LEMMY: Just remember this is Zomboid. You want to carry a heavy, extremely loud, finite fuel weapon? You want to cut your own arm off or get eaten by a horde? It’s time to pick! I’m sure we’ll want to look into adding chainsaws at some point because, well its obvious, but their usefulness will be questionable.

BINKY: I’d also like to add this.

RJ specifically for you: How have your pole dancing skills increased since Rezzed? What have you been doing to really up your game?
ROMAIN: First thing, I’ve bought a new pole for my home. It’s quite amazing, after a few miserable falls, I’ve noe pretty much mastered it.  I mean, it’s not on-board a monorail shuttle, but it does the trick. I’ll do a bonus video soon to show some of my new pole dance skills very soon, I just need to find the correct underwear.

    Cake or Pie?
MASH: The real question is: Pancakes or Waffles?

Time has passed, many have died, and much has been lost. We're no longer at the top of the pyramid; no longer the rulers of this world. Most of us have been deprived from what we hold most dear. We stride day to day to survive, to find some sustenance, something to hold onto, something to go on...Us, Humans, we've been known for our inner resilience,to triumph when all odds are against us. We can't just stand idle while our world withers away... There is much history to be written about us. Much more deeds to be done. We WILL prevail! We WILL make our stand! Are you ready? Are you ready to take back what's rightfully yours?Welcome, to a new beginning...    OVERVIEWThe server is meant to be Roleplay oriented, event/story driven, and faction based. however, you're not required to join a faction; as of right now there aren't any events you can't participate in if you're not in a faction. So when you join you're welcome to go out on your own, buddy up with someone, or join a faction (or eventually do so). Just keep in mind that joining a faction might give you a better sense of belonging than if you were to be out on your own. There will be server sponsored events for everyone to participate in. And lastly, there will a server story that will be updated regularly (when there is enough content to be added). A story that you, the player, shapes up. We'll keep an eye out for things that occur in the server and we'll base off our writing off of those events. It's up to you if your character becomes a legend, or just another unknown casualty.   ---------------------------------SERVER INFO----------------------------Keep in mind you'll need to be in the whitelist to connect.Server Status: OFFLINEIP Address: theundertaking.pwnz.orgPort: 16361Host/Service Provider: Fragnet -   Steam Group   -   Server Forums   - Administration:- Deadend | Scott Daniels [Founder]- Revixy | Revixy [Writer]- Strang | John Strang [site admin]- LoLDODGEthis | Dodge [right hand man] Server Restarts: Server will be restarted every 2 hours to maintain the smoothest possible gaming experience on the server. Game Settings:

---------------------------------RULES----------------------------1. No breaking into or raiding bases (safehouses, camps, outposts, settlements...etc.). If you're on a loot run and come accross a player built base (barricaded, wooden walls, paint on walls, notes saying this is someone's base, spiffo on the floor,...etc. ) then carry on. It's very annoying to build your base only to have it ransacked when you're logged off (a little unfair since you're not there to defend it, don't you think?). There will be a fixed time for when you're able to raid player bases (so keep note of their locations). Check the events section for more info.  2. No griefing. This primarily means no destroying walls unless you building your base. So if you're trying to enter a building, you'll have to go through the doors (if they're locked you can break em) or windows (if they're barricaded you can tear em down). 3. Stay in character as much as possible. Global Chat is meant to be a sort of radio frequency we can all tune into. No need to explain how you got your hand on a "radio" or whatever. Just act in character. If you need to act out of character (go ooc), put your message in paranthesis ex. (Hey Guys, gtg I'll be back later). Same goes for Local chat (though that one of course is meant to be you talking in person, not a radio frequency). With that in mind, you can "talk" all you want.  4. Don't take notebooks that have been written on that aren't yours. you might find random notebooks written into throughout the server map. These are meant to enhance your experience in the server. And learn more about the back-story, its characters, locations/factions. So please don't take these with you. After you done reading them, put em back where you found them for others to see. As of right now, those are the only rules, let's hope we can keep it that way. These rules are all meant to protect every player's experience in the server. So if you catch someone breaking any of them, report them, tell an admin ASAP. If there aren't any admins online, take a screenshot (by pressing your F12) and post it here, describing how and what rule they broke (you should take screenshots of people breaking rules even if admins are online). Help us make this a server that everyone can enjoy. Breaking rules No. 1 or 2 will get your account instantly banned. PETITIONING YOUR ACCOUNT TO REMOVE BAN
HOW TO JOINYou can apply to join at our server forums, the recruitment tab.
---------------------------------EVENTS----------------------------MAJOR SERVER EVENTSThese are to be fun all around for everyone and make sense with the game world.
RESUPPLY EVENTSThese events are meant to give players things to do. A location is announced and what's going on. It's up to you to go check it out or not. You can expect announcement like these to be made (they're meant to be roleplay based):
TRADE EVENTSThese events will be server sponsored events in which a place will be secured for trading. Everyone would be welcomed to come in and trade their goods.

---------------------------------THE STORY OF US----------------------------Fort Lenning has fallen; no traces of any survivors. We've been left alone to fend off for ourselves. The military has gone silent. It's unknown whether they're still active or have been consumed by the virus as well. Those who survived the outbreak have resorted to scavenging, looting, stealing from each other, and murdering. But not all hope is lost, a place called Outpost Rose has been established off the road from Muldraugh to Dixie. Though still called an outpost, its a heavily fortified fortress led by the mysterious Scott Daniels. South of muldraugh, near the highway a new survivor settlement, New Hope, has been established, led by John Maxson, the governor. It's unknown what events will occur from here and on. What awaits the Knox County and its survivor is only a story that's yet to unfold...... To be continued.  UNTOLD STORIESThis segment contains stories told by survivors for survivors. Reading them, will give you more insight as to a survivor's, faction's, and location's background. They're pre-approved before being linked here to fit with server lore and events (If you'd like to write a story of your survivor in the server and want it have it linked here, send me a private message).

---------------------------------FACTIONS----------------------------Factions are meant to be a large component of the server. When successfully established a lot of what goes on the server will revolve around factions. The Raid Event specifically will be much more enjoyable if you're in a faction. You don't have to join a faction to play in the server. But you should definitely keep an eye on them and make sure you join the right one (when and if you decide to join one). You can read more about them HERE
---------------------------------Q&A----------------------------read this before posting an issue or asking a question, it'll be continuously expanded on as issues arise and solutions are presented.

As for resets, I've spent the last two days trying to figure how to do a soft reset with my server options and Fragnet has provided me with a method that I really hope will work!

First soft reset will be Tomorrow at 09 PM CEST, so make sure to backup your characters!

What would I love to see?
A scoreboard of the longest multiplayer survivors.

I choose multiplayer, I connect to someone's server.
    I play, I die.
At this moment, Project Zomboid performs a check for the following:

Build version number. Presence of Mods on the server that deviate the version from Official. Character name Player name Survival time Zombies killed. I get a message: Would you like to post your result to the Official Scoreboard?

    If I choose yes:
This information gets uploaded to the PZ website and into an organized scoreboard ladder, to be the official recount of the longest survivors. (Maybe top 10 or 100).

Since it's not a screenshot, you can't photoshop it and fake it. But the official recount would introduce some bragging rights among the hardcore survivors.

    What you think?
    Much love?

Well it seems like we will have a steady and loyal player base all i need now is to find someone to host the server,

The main issue is i am looking for a server that i will not have to pay for but instead just find someone who is interested in joining the town and has the capabilities to start the server, of course we could go for donations to run a server because it really would not be that expensive but i would honestly feel bad having players donate to keep the server up.
