my question relates to rented servers......no ETA is asked for of course
(i don't know if the SteamWorks affair has any bearing on this)

in the past you have mentioned that a Dedicated Server version of the game had not been released. so the 2 part question is this

1: is a Dedicated Server version in the works
2: if so, will it have a proper admin panel that will allow an admin to easily upload a mod or map without having to alter the servers games files themselves as is common for other mod friendly games

What types of vehicles do you plan to add?

Will it be named like the guns are? (named after what category they fall into; truck, suv, 2-door, ect.)

Do you have any plans to add RVs or Tow-Behinds?

Do you have a development 'roadmap' that you are willing to share with the community? What is your planned progression of implementing features/content? I know better than to ask for ETA's, and that vehicles and NPC's will be added when they're ready, but it would be nice to know that after say the erosion mod is added, and the new animations are added, that we should expect to see elevations (sewers, basements, hills, valleys, etc) after that. Something like that. When this is done we will work on this sort of thing. Of course we know that you are working on multiple things at the same time utilizing your team's talents/skills.

I guess, what are your development priorities at TIS?

    2. What about procedural parts of the map, like campsites randomly placed around the forests (overrun with zombies etc, think walking dead) and even, to a lesser extent, chopper crashes

We all understand by now that there are certain ways to avoid your character getting bored in the game, be it cutting a tree, do inventory management or read a book. But what about actual players? Aside from the much anticipated NPC's and "The Governor", do you plan to implement anything else that will keep the actual player entertained throughout the "Sims" stage, when we manage to build a good safehouse and only have to care about our crops and water barrels?

    1. Is there any chance of getting something like a shopping trolley to cart objects around, provide much more carrying capacity, and possibly have it be knockable over by Zombies etc (and slower on grass)

    2. When will things like backpacks, raincoats, hats etc be visible on the character? (theres only so many times that purple sweater can look good)

Yeh, rivers do overflow during storms and such but they almost always retreat. Only forming new channels when they overflow constantly over the same area.

Ponds on the other hand are a bit odd. Maybe if a large ditch was dug then it would make sense. Otherwise there is no logic for random ponds to start forming because civilization has collapsed. We have little say as to where our natural ponds are formed. Puddles maybe, but not ponds.
Now that's something that would be nice for the implementation of the erosion mods, puddles. And with possibly soaking you more and making noise when you step over them xD.

Are you ready to take back what's rightfully yours?Welcome, to a new beginning...    OVERVIEWThe server is meant to be Roleplay oriented, event/story driven, and faction based. however, you're not required to join a faction; as of right now there aren't any events you can't participate in if you're not in a faction. So when you join you're welcome to go out on your own, buddy up with someone, or join a faction (or eventually do so). Just keep in mind that joining a faction might give you a better sense of belonging than if you were to be out on your own. There will be server sponsored events for everyone to participate in. And lastly, there will a server story that will be updated regularly (when there is enough content to be added). A story that you, the player, shapes up. We'll keep an eye out for things that occur in the server and we'll base off our writing off of those events. If you're on a loot run and come accross a player built base (barricaded, wooden walls, paint on walls, notes saying this is someone's base, spiffo on the floor,...etc. ) then carry on. It's very annoying to build your base only to have it ransacked when you're logged off (a little unfair since you're not there to defend it, don't you think?). There will be a fixed time for when you're able to raid player bases (so keep note of their locations). Check the events section for more info.  2. No griefing. This primarily means no destroying walls unless you building your base. So if you're trying to enter a building, you'll have to go through the doors (if they're locked you can break em) or windows (if they're barricaded you can tear em down). 3. Stay in character as much as possible. Global Chat is meant to be a sort of radio frequency we can all tune into. No need to explain how you got your hand on a "radio" or whatever. Just act in character. If you need to act out of character (go ooc), put your message in paranthesis ex. (Hey Guys, gtg I'll be back later). Same goes for Local chat (though that one of course is meant to be you talking in person, not a radio frequency). With that in mind, you can "talk" all you want.  4. Don't take notebooks that have been written on that aren't yours. you might find random notebooks written into throughout the server map. ---------------------------------THE STORY OF US----------------------------Fort Lenning has fallen; no traces of any survivors. We've been left alone to fend off for ourselves. The military has gone silent. It's unknown whether they're still active or have been consumed by the virus as well. Those who survived the outbreak have resorted to scavenging, looting, stealing from each other, and murdering. But not all hope is lost, a place called Outpost Rose has been established off the road from Muldraugh to Dixie. Though still called an outpost, its a heavily fortified fortress led by the mysterious Scott Daniels. South of muldraugh, near the highway a new survivor settlement, New Hope, has been established, led by John Maxson, the governor. It's unknown what events will occur from here and on. What awaits the Knox County and its survivor is only a story that's yet to unfold...... To be continued.  UNTOLD STORIESThis segment contains stories told by survivors for survivors. Reading them, will give you more insight as to a survivor's, faction's, and location's background. ---------------------------------FACTIONS----------------------------Factions are meant to be a large component of the server. When successfully established a lot of what goes on the server will revolve around factions. The Raid Event specifically will be much more enjoyable if you're in a faction. You don't have to join a faction to play in the server. But you should definitely keep an eye on them and make sure you join the right one (when and if you decide to join one). Deadend reacted to Strang in Ways to see at night
As far as I know, flashlights and candles are currently the only ways to see in the dark. Road flares would be common and they provide a good light to see at night, but they make a sound when lit and sizzle until they burn out. Also snap glow sticks would be very common, they would not be as bright as the flares, but they burn longer and they make no sound. You may be able to tie the glow sticks to yourself and have a primary equipped while using it

Deadend reacted to Viceroy in Weapon affects panic.
This is a simple suggestion that I feel most of you would agree is realistic.

The weapon you have equipped should have an effect regarding the level of panic you feel, take this for an example:
If I have no weapon and see zombies, I should freak out yes? If I have a butterknife I would still freak out correct? Now if I have a baseball bat I would feel more assured if there are only a handful of zombies. Would you? If I have an axe I would feel more assured still and panic less when confronted with a handful. How about you? If I have a shotgun I would feel pretty damn brave (If it is loaded). And you?
Now I am not saying it should remove panic totally, I just think that some form of 'panic modifier' would be realistic. Like take the shotgun example. The moment it is empty your panic would shoot up rapidly, simulating that panic you have as you shove shells into it with zombies bearing down on you. If your bat breaks you would also freak out.

It would be rather simple to implement and I feel rather suitable to the way PZ simulates the world. Indeed it would be next to useless when there are loads of zombies in front of you, but at smaller numbers a weapon would indeed realistically bolster your morale to a certain extent.

So what do you guys think?

Deadend reacted to LeoIvanov in Medical treatment overhaul ideas (with illustration).
I seriously need to consider doing anything productive at times when I'm sleep deprived... For the past several months I've been dropping awesome ideas only when I was sleep deprived... Back to the point.

Medical treatment overhaul. Now I know that developers of the game have mentioned that they will be working on it, and that it will see it's light sometime soon. What I wanted to share were the ideas that stuck in my head and that I couldn't just keep to myself. Let's get it started.

    - Wounds. Instead of our usual "Scratches", "Bites" and... "Wounds" (That seem to exist in the code but never implemented properly into the main game), now we can have a whole new variety of wounds :

Scratches, Human bites (Both from zombies and ACTUAL humans!), bruises, fractures, burns, dismemberment, concussions, splits.

    - Severity of Wounds. EACH type of wound has a severity tied to it, depending on the strength of incoming attack :
    Minor, Moderate, Severe, Lethal.

Each open wound that has the blood rushing out of it has chance to get infected. The chance increases over time if the wound isn't bandaged, or bandaged with old/unprofessional bandages. To clean/disinfect the wound you need to pour some type of alcohol on the wound. Pouring the alcohol on the open wound launches the "Pain" moodle up. The more severe the wound, the harder the pain moodle shoots up.

    - If the wound isn't properly treated and cleaned for a long period of time, it becomes "infected", at a later state turning into "rotting". When a wound reaches the "infected" state, you could still clean it out with a proper procedure, but a case is considered lost when your wound starts rotting. The only possible way to avoid dying from a rotting wound is a dismemberment of a wounded body part.

    - if the "pain" moodlet rises to the critical stage, a character has a chance to fall unconscious (treated as "sleep" on the spot), with potentially dying from your untreated wounds and/or lurking zombies over a period of time. So make sure you give your buddy painkillers before disinfecting their wounds.

    - New skill opens up. "Medicine", with proper skill books and a new starting profession of a "medic". At low medic levels you get a negative multiplier to every medical treatment that you perform on yourself or your friends. For example, if you try to disinfect the wound with medicine level 0, your pain, instead of rising by +150 points, will rise up by +300. Or, if you bandage your wound with unclean bandages, you get a much higher chance of catching infection. If using clean, medical bandages, you still get a very small chance to get the infection, which dissapears completely once you reach higher medicine levels. Depending on your "medicine" level, you can reach different conclusions on how to treat your wound as shown on screenshot above. On low levels of medicine your "conclusion" to a moderate burn would be to apply cold water. On higher medicine levels you'd be able to craft an oil from nearby fauna/food supplies to apply to the burn, which will deal with the burn much faster. Also medical buildings can now spawn various disinfectants, sprays, etc to take care of your wounds.

    - Basically, more medical items: Bandages, sprays, disinfectants, much more variety of pills (strong painkillers (For medical anesthesy), weak painkillers (from headaches and migrains)), all that jazz.

    - Have a negative effect on gameplay when a particular body part is damaged : Slower movement speed if your legs are wounded. Decrease in effectiveness of melee weapons if your hands/arms are wounded, up to the point of inability of EQUIPPING items if the wounds are severe. Much quicker tiring out when chest or stomach are damaged. Lower visibility, strength, speed and coordination when head is damaged.

    - Not directly related to medical system, but have an ability to target certain body spots or have a "random" hit detection, the same way it works right now. So basically - if you set your hits to direct "head", you have a smaller chance of hitting/pushing the zombie away/down, but a much bigger chance of critical strike/complete miss. Hitting zombie's hands decreases their chance of scratching you. Their legs to decrease their speed. Body to increase chance of knockback.

When you fight humans - target head for increased chance of knocking the opponent out, crippling/heavily damaging them. Target legs to slow their movement. Target hands for a chance of them dropping their weapons. Target chest to knock the air out of their lungs, tiring them out. Target groin for a good critical strike with a chance of sending your opponent in high pain, probably dropping their weapons aswell. (Crits only work on males though.)

Targeting neck in a human vs human encounter is as valuable as targeting the head, since a little blunt hit to it and a fracture with a "severe" status, and the opponent is pretty much dead.. Not only will it knock the air out of them, it will also send them staggering on the ground gasping for air, unable to fight.

    - Just like I briefly mentioned earlier - ability to craft medical items from flora, leaves, food and other stuff. The higher the medical knowledge, the more useful things you can create.

This is probably as much as I could think of right now, since the sleep deprivation is finally getting to me. Tell me what you guys think of these ideas.

But in all seriousness, yes, I've wished zombies were more aggressive. You might every now and then see a zombie hitting a wall you built. But it'd be more awesome if if it was a horde and I got the shit just the hit the fan moment.
In general though, I wish survival/sandbox mode zombies could be made like the Last Stand mode zombies. Just make the light hungry bloodhounds that will go investigate every nearby source of light at nighttime. And get like a domino effect from sounds where you hammering away at your fortications attracts a few zombies who then attract those near you.
