Just a note, finally had some time to plug at it again, and your windows.txt works perfectly.  I'm having a bit of trouble locating specific functions, as Rathlord commented on; It'd also be nice if I could copy and paste sections from other items, thus far I'm not seeing a way to do that, though the tick box seems like a good way to do that.

Another nice feature would be when creating a specific module, that it would create (or allow you to create) the mod.info file and folder structure for the mod upon save, so it can be drag and dropped right into the mod folder, for quick testing. I'll probably add more later, but I ran out of time troubleshooting why my explosive alcoholic food item wouldn't let me eat it.

Little bit confused as to what I'm supposed to be slandering, acting as a puppet for, or what reason I'm being crucified, though.

The founders not releasing a few things incrementally and instead aiming to get a feature all out at once is of course a frustrating, but that doesn't make it an objectively bad approach. It just means that doing things in little baby steps (New crowbar animation! Now with three hats!) ain't going to happen. If that means some people get bored or decide that obviously means they'll never be released then, well, that's unfortunate, but it was a conscious choice that was made, complete with its own unique consequences. I'd just argue having such simple updates wouldn't stem the hate or people's boredom, anyway, as evidenced by how routinely the other devs "small stuff" is trashed.

It's TIS's game. They'll develop it however they like.

Cool, thank you for the exhaustive information there

It might be worth checking to make this a complementary mod as the functionality really isn't limited to this one.

For homes, exteriors are made of a layer of siding (which could be lots of things, from vinyl to aluminum to steel to wood to cement board and more, generally speaking this wouldn't be salvageable), beneath which lies a layer of sheathing (plywood or OSB) beneath which you have studs (planks) and either nails or screws holding them together. On the inside of the studs you typically have plaster in older homes and sheetrock in newer homes.

There are other options out there, but they're generally speaking not common enough to bother with (log homes, metal studs), and although brick homes are fairly common in this area I'm not sure they're actually represented in the game, so no worries there.

So tl;dr same materials as player built walls, really.

Poking around on this and it's looking good so far. Start-up could be streamlined a bit (maybe prompt the users on what to do when the program is first launched within the program, just have those windows come up with what to do with them automatically?).

One thing that really stands out when I tried to work on recipes, though, is adding required ingredients. I finally figured out that you have to uncheck "UseKey" box. I think the easiest way would be to expand the "Add contents" box a little bit. Replace the "UseKey" box with just "Add Key" and below it have another blank that says "Add Ingredient" with its own Add button.

Otherwise, stuff is looking good so far and I'm enjoying playing with it.

    Scripts & Distribution editor.

    Welcome to ItemZed!
ItemZed is a development and modding tool that is used to edit the contents of script modules (foodstuff items, weapons, recipes etc) and the distribution table that dictates where different in-game items can be found and looted on the map. Additionally, it loads texturepacks containing icons so you can change how things appear in-game.
On top of the manual editing of data, there are options for the batch refactoring of large numbers of items and in-game objects.
We have also added lua integration that allows the entire data set to be programmatically modified, and output to any sort of format – meaning that changes and new items can quickly and easily become part of user mods, and a part of the main game. They can also be used to created handy tables in html and wiki format.

The containers will get destroyed, giving some building materials back. The contents will be scattered on the ground.

That's entirely the point. If you want a base, you need to defend it. Also, you can build more supports.

I don't understand the first sentence, but wooden beams act as supports just as walls do.

This mod lets structures come crashing down when their support structures are removed. All structures must have a wall in a 5x5 area below or get destroyed.
Also prevents players from building floors more than 3 tiles away from any wall.
Be aware that any player (and zombie) that is below a crashing structure will get hurt, maybe even killed...

Mod preview image by Onkeen. Thanks!

I'm still working on the details and effects of this, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to reply!

This is what happens when you remove enough supporting structures:

This is the new maximum distance to build floors:

And this is what happens when you stand below a single floortile crashing down on you:

I told the devs I'd wait a bit before posting my feedback since they've already seen it. I'm re-posting it now just to see if other people agree with my synopsis/feelings. I have several qualms with the current system, the most important being that I feel the time spent on worrying about this system far outweighs the time spent worrying about anything else in the game, which I feel is overbearing. I also feel like it doesn't mirror reality particularly well and is a bit overcomplex. So, I wanted to (obviously) give some positive feedback in the form of some balance/system changes for a better experience.

No matter how often you express your displeasure at this, you will not get satisfaction simply because there's no way we can provide it. We can only point to the work we've done and the crises survived to assail your fears of the future, as it's impossible to predict how long will take with such a small team (all it takes is one member to have issues with their task, to get sick, to burn out, or to die and that's the end of that time frame or possibly the game and the company as a whole).

The only way to do what you want us to do would be not to talk about anything, at all, until it's already out.

As to why the team remains small, the answer should have been self-evident, @Marco1: TIS is doing well enough to get by, and has a bit saved up to carry on development if the worst should happen, but those funds aren't unlimited: there's only so many people they can hire with available funds and still hope to be in business long enough to finish the game. No doubt they'll look at hiring more talented people where possible, just as they have in the past, but when the game sells for a median price of $8 and is itself a niche title, trapped in a category of ill-repute until completed, we have to be realistic.

So I guess this means we get to suffer together -- you get to "have a right to voice that opinion" and I have a right to sigh and ask "Why do you expect anything different?" in response, after a few months of hearing the same thing.

You say love the game and care about it's development, but the people that need  to hear that are only  being presented with  the negatives.

In this part you are missing the point completely. In EA games you get them as they are NOW, you get discount + a good chance that game become better. Its like investment. Some EA games ( Dead linger anyone?) wont deliver and the only thing you can do is to cry and whine at their forums.

The whole " i expected them", "other dev teams", "but game XXX" its just a crap made by guys that dont know what early access means.

Now if we look at Pz, they keep updating the game, the give you some info each monday. Yes for my taste they are slow , but I dont whine (that much) as I know I have no right to do so. for 14e I have over 450h of fun and probably much more to come so its good investment.

Anyone can write what they like in reviews. Just because someone says they've been banned for "telling the truth" doesn't mean that's what they're banned for. We've our fair share of trolls and caustic individuals, like any community -- and there've been times where we've banned people whom crossed the line from constructive criticism to outright abuse.

It's your choice to believe them, but I'd appreciate if you considered it from our perspective as well. We've no problem with people feeling the game is slow to develop or that there's a long period of time between updates (after all, with build 35 it's true -- this is the longest we've gone without a public build since releasing to Steam, and it's all due to the hope that animations could have been part of build 35). Calling us scammers, robbers, cunts and telling the devs that they're so incompetent that they should quit (despite having hundreds of hours in their game), and going after anyone that doesn't share their view, though? We're not required to give anyone a soap box to do so -- even if you choose to believe their narrative after the fact.

That's right -- and maybe if the wait is getting to you to the point where coming here week after week frustrates you and you feel you'd be better off playing another game,  why not do so? PZ will be here if you choose to come back, hopefully in a better state than when you left.

That's being real and honest. It may not be something you like to hear, but after seeing some people come back week after week and continue to escalate their behavior over it, expecting something different, perhaps they need to hear that it's OK to let go for a while.

It's just a game, in the end. It's meant to entertain you and, I hope it has, but being realistic, it won't provide infinite entertainment; you will get bored of it; you will move on to other games; and maybe, some of us will need to be told that when it's clear we're no longer having fun with it.

There's no disdain and I do not feel superior to anyone here, though I'll have to recognize that some feel my overly blunt style was aiming to wound. It wasn't intentional and I apologize.

Rathlord got a reaction from Matt Morgan in Commonly Suggested Suggestions
Heya guys, I'm going to throw together a quick list of things that are commonly suggested and whether they've been mentioned by devs as tentative or no's. I'm going to be basing this off of a few threads in the old forum and the top of my head. If I miss any please mention it in the thread and I'll add it to the list.

    Key
[n] - This is a confirmed 'No' from the development team. Please don't waste your time or ours reposting unless there's something relevant and new about it
[y] - This is confirmed 'Yes' from the development team. This is something the definitely want to see in the game, but this does not constitute a guarantee. Please don't post about it unless you have something new or relevant to add.
[m] - This is a 'maybe' from the dev team. It's something they've mentioned that they were interested in but we still don't know if it's a confirmed feature. Please don't post about it unless you have something new or relevant to add.
Everything else - everything not marked would be something overwhelmingly decided by the community or that's self-evident. If you feel it needs discussion bring it up here or in a thread if there's not already one out there.

    The Big No's!
These are a list of things that are either vehemently opposed by the majority of the community, confirmed "no's" by the dev team, or impossible within the game as it is. I'm going to try to make this completely unbiased, but if you disagree with anything posted feel free to mention it. The most important ones are highlighted in red. If you take nothing else from this thread, please pay attention to these.

Aerosol Can + Lighter = Flamethrower
[n]    Beginning the game before the infection
    [n]    Children or babies

    [n]    Voiceover
[n]    Zombie Beasts or Infected Animals
[n]    Zombie Camo, or Using Zombie Guts as a Disguise

    Tentative Yes's
These things are things that either the devs have expressed interest in adding. Please note that this list does not mean these will be in the game at release, nor does it mean the devs will ever add them. It's solely a list of features that at some point they expressed interest in. These things do not need further threads, so please refrain.
