I really like how when crowded by enough zombies you can be overpowered and are just slowly brought to the ground and feasted upon in an all too chilling and perilous fashion, the screams especially adding to the effect. It’s a great feature. What I don’t like is how in instances where I’m bleeding to death in a room I convulse back with a backward jolt and fall to the floor in a rapid motion. It’s just out of place given the circumstance. I feel like there should be more variety in how these death animations are handled. With a shot to the head in Multiplayer maybe you jus drop, sure, or if you’ve been barraged with shotgun shells maybe you sort of wave about for a second and then fall like the ending of Red Dead 1. Could add some wheezing and labored breathing to accompany it, coughing and whatnot. I think it’d be really cool.

In my experience some will plan a path around, a quite elaborate one I might add, and others will just keep on banging.

I’d suggest you check out the aforementioned thread, as people bring up some good points regarding this zombie pathfinding situation.

Hello dear developers. For a month now I have been enjoying 41 builds of the game, and I admire animations.
And every time I open the character panel, I want to see sharper shadows, and a background image.

I assume that due to the low polygons of the model this is not possible, But what if a more detailed model is used in the character’s window? Like in the portraits window in WarCraft 3. I understand that this is an additional waste of resources, but I think the idea is good, and many will like it + this will not affect performance, because the character window will have a separate model from the game.
Also about the background image. You can also make it not static, but so that we rotate the character, and rotate the picture. And I can offer an option with a picture + 3D models.

Hello everyone! Lazy Thursdoid this week while we can get away with it, IWBUMs are out and for the most part everyone seems to be really happy with how its going. A few much more isolated issues to resolve on low end PCs and Mac, Linux builds. It sucks and we promise we’re working on them, if there’s anyone out there who feels they haven’t been responded to about their issue, chances are we’re already aware and are working on solving it or getting hold of a similar spec ourselves to debug on. Otherwise, people seem to be responding very positively, and player counts, reviews and everything seem to be very active. Exciting times!
We released 5th patch to IWBUMs yesterday, and boy was everyone really happy to see the increased soap spawns! We seem to have licked all the specific performance related issues, and now only need to improve general performance with skeleton sharing between zombies in hordes. This will happen during IWBUMs at some stage, but is a bigger task than some others so we’ll see at what point it does drop in.
We feel our naming scheme for the playstyles has been a lot more successful than previous attempts, the hotbar system has been going down a storm. We’ll carry on polishing, balancing and fixing until we’re finally ready to start testing the multiplayer code (no timescale on this, it really does depend on a lot of factors) and until then… enjoy!
This week’s image from Vic on Steam. A general list of stuff added to PZ, and vids of features being worked on, is kept here – so you don’t have to plough through endless dev blogs for info. The Centralized Block of Italicised Text would like to direct your attention to the PZ Wiki should you feel like editing or amending something, and the PZ Mailing List that can send blogs like this and patch notes direct to your mailbox. We also live on Twitter right here! Our Discord is open for chat and hijinks too!

A huge portion of the game is spent on organization and looting; there are a few changes that would make that process much more pleasant. These are not quite as fun or exciting as new features, but I believe these would provide a huge boost to the player's experience with (relatively) little work.

    Namely:
More sorting categories to break up the huge amount of useful items whose category is "Item" Split "literature" into: "learning" (skill books/mags), "literature" (newspapers, magazines, etc.) , and "logs" (notebooks, diaries, sheets of paper) Rename the skill books so that they automatically sort by Textbook/Magazine > Skill Type > XP level
    Perhaps harder to implement:
Ability to rename all objects. This would be quite useful for organizing equipment, tools, and clothing, as well as provide more immersion for things like dolls or favorite pens. It would even help for food if you needed to remind yourself which head of lettuce has been sitting out longer Change "annotated map" objects to include the town's name, i.e. "Rosewood Map - Annotated" Be able to "combine" many more multiple-use items (like how you can take two 50% alcohol wipes and make one 100% alcohol wipes). It'd be great for non-perishable foods, gasoline, etc.

Would love to just be able to place a bunch of candles in general without adding anything all over the place for a real apocalyptic aesthetic. Being able to visually see them be held would be cool too. This is a good idea as well though, so it gets support from me.

Milkdromeda reacted to Blasted_Taco in Place a candle in a can as a source of light
So right now when the power goes out, the only source of light inside of your house is either a flashlight/candle you need to equip or you build one of those Lamp on a Pillar that needs 5 Carpentry to build, so unless you have 5 Cap you are out of light sources that you can turn on and off and light up a specific place in your base.

So why not take a candle, a can of tuna and just place the candle inside the can and place the can with the candle somewhere in the floor? You will have both hands free to do whatever you want, you have a source of light that you dont need to know how to build a shack of wood to make it, you can turn it on and off whenever you want as long as it still has wax and you have lighters/matches and also it looks good.

I tried to mod it in copying the file of Lamp in a Pillar but i am too drowsy to do this stuff right now, so have a picture.
