Love the crowbar (yet to find the axe) but so far the most effective weapon has been the kitchen knife of all things - one stab in the back of the head and all over red rover.

Im happy with short blades (durability is the only issue).

Yep. I don't know if it will be completely different or just an "overhaul" of the existing system.Personally, I'd like something that doesn't require as much "reading" but instead represents your inventory more visually

As long as we aren't talking about an absolute outcome of people getting bored -> getting depressed -> dying.  Could that happen in the real world?  Sure...but it would be exceedingly rare, and if the mechanic automatically follows that pathway it becomes commonplace within the game world.  Instead I'd suggest consequences like a loss of alertness, with perhaps a very small chance that the boredom could turn into depression (and then open up whatever consequences are decided upon for depression).

I agree, tripping when walking backwards should also be a threat. There are reasons people don't kite in real life as they do in games.

I think the same thing mate, I really want to see that atmosphere of chaos death and destruction, and visit buildings that scare me travel through the blood on the walls and the zombies can see it someday.

I think people are not seeing the point. A knife taped to a broom stick is not great and point out by the OP but it a great stop gap weapon. You could have a knife to fight zed's with or you could have a knife 5 feet in front of you. Even I can say in a pinch I would tap a knife to a stick for range. But later I would pull the hands off the knife use the tang to mount it in a bigger stick(like the poll they use to hold up small trees, a pip, or the bamboo poll off a tiki lamp.) with nuts and bolts. I may wrap it with wire as well as duct tap just to make it stronger. I would also sharpen it as well as add a cross guard to keep the zeds at range. But I am a tool user I would make a weapon out of it.

But this in game would take time and tools. this is why like the nail bat you need tool to make a bat better. It would be the same for the spear. Hall call the first one "a knife on a stick" call the later better made one a spear.

Someone made this suggestion a week or so back. But as I said in that post. It what they tell you to do when some thing bad happens like this.

I run out of all the stocks of water I’ve made, and I had only 1 barrel so far and it was empty because of no rain… so I took all the empty bottles I could find and I went to search for water in the neighborhood.

Then, in one rich looking house, in a bathroom, while I was filling some water from a toilet…ahmm... from a flush tank (I guess) the idea suddenly strike me!
    There is a bath here! (Well… dah!! It’s a bath-room)
I mean, what if I could fill this bath with water! (when water was still working of course…) It’s probably a two or tree barrels of water here!

So my suggestion (you already got it) to be able to fill the bath with water (like we can do it with pans and bowls) and to use it later, when water is gone.

It will also be smart to lock the door (if the “locking doors” suggestion will be implemented) and probably even barricade the window. I don’t want to come here later and find some zombie taking a bath…

One thing that I currently find pretty annoying is the way walls and barricades just fail instantly with no warning.  I would really like to see a couple of visual damage states applied to give warning.  Perhaps light damage when health is down to 2/3 and heavy damage when health is down to 1/3 (splintered boards and such).

Rasheim has a point, with out proper gun safety traning, you would make rookie mistakes such as keeping your finger on the trigger while holstering your gun. The person who does not respect the gun is the person who gets hurt.
But it is a very complicated process to reload used casings. It would be very hard to find a reloading bench and no average joe would know how to use it

I love the idea of casting bullets and is something I would do (and do now atm) if there was a real zombie outbreak (or whatever apocalyptic happening). I suggested reloading ammo before.

If the game is only going to what average joe knows, they should not even include guns as most people would shoot themselves in the leg due to inproper training (no, 300+ hours of CoD don't give enough experience in how to load/unload and operate a gun safely).

So, powering up buildings with generators was being discussed, and looks like approved.

This suggestion comes after generators are implemented.
Once you have one going, it would be cool to make a workshop and cast bullets from all the rings, necklaces, and lockets the zombies drop.

Add gunpowder as an item and let the folks load their own bullets.

The skull isnt very easy to penetrate in reality, so I wouldnt mind things being tougher. When vehicles are in, Id like to see Z's who changed while wearing motorbike helmets etc.
There is quite a number of ways to add a bit of complexity without going into 'special power' zombies, which I am very glad, wont be added to the game

The longsword discussion (don't worry, I'm not going to get started on that one) reminded me of something interesting - Dostoyevsky's "Crime and Punishment". It might be strange that discussion of visiting bloody murder upon the undead made a mental connection to a classic of literature, but...

Gaffa Tape Warrior said this: "A sword is convienient; you can wear it on your belt and have both hands free for climbing and carrying and working." in the longsword thread.

The fragment of the story I'm referring to has Raskolnikov use his old shirt (AFAIR) to make a loop and hang an axe in it.

So, why not have clothes / sheets / sheet rope be craftable into a "makeshift scabbard" of sorts ? Equip it, hang a weapon and have it ready to be drawn in an instant. I would see this linked with a hotkey to make you drop whatever else you had in your hands onto the ground and equip the "holstered" weapon.

What do you think about it ?

Zombies have strength which is a direct function of tissue durability, even if it's freaking out mutated tissue. If they naturally decayed (including bones) then they'd be unable to even shamble, not speaking of grabbing and biting. Naw - they have durability and decreased amount of vital spots, which results in having to deliver very strong or precise hits to take them out for good.

I am definitely on your side about the intelligent zombies (tools, weapons etc) GodWaffle.

However, It depends on how far you want to take it.

Should zombies even know how to walk? Should they even know how to eat? (ie. Catch Food, Kill Food, Food enters Mouth hole)
Should they know how to identify another zombie from a living person?

Zombies do, in a sense, retain some motor skills. I think a zombie battering its way (albeit slowly) through an obstacle to get to the thing it desires isn't taking it too far.
