nopleaseno
For the record, this is a serious suggestion and I really think it is applicable. People have been arguing about the debate of whether does zombie possess the property of perpetual motion machine for a long time. The basic thesis is that people can use zombies to generate power because zombies seem to have endless energy even without any food resource. I'm not going to start a debate here, so I just put my ideas below:1. The generator type. I see that developers decide to add generators in the future, and if no surprise, it should be gasoline powered generator. We may cannibalize parts from gasoline powered generator to build a generator that can be driven by human force. It shares the same principle with wind turbine, but wind turbine is not realistic for its blade problem. The propeller requires both aerodynamics and light weight, it's almost impossible to archive that with wood material.2. Skill and item requirements. This is not an easy work so there must be some strict requirements. It would be easy if developers just add a new skill option -- mechanic, considering vehicles will be added in the future. However, based on current version, it could use carpentry requirement. For example, you have to reach carpentry 4 or 5. In addition to carpentry ability, you have to find a book named "home generator guide", which should be rare. And some other items the game have not given too much use to, like a duct tape, wrench, screwdriver, or even barbed wire.3. Durability. I don't think it's realistic or fun that once we build a zombie generator then there will be endless power forever. First of all, zombies could die from exhausting its energy. Zombies outside could live forever because most of the time they are just wandering, in other words they are in static status. It would be totally different when the zombie is forced to work 7/24. My estimate is that one zombie can only generate power for less than half month. Secondly, the generator parts are not durable. Some of the parts need to be replaced time by time. But don't make it too hard, just replacing wire or something. Overall, it still should be a better choice for survivors than gasoline generator. Thirdly, zombies may escape.4. Capturing zombies. That's the fun part. First we need a tool, which is basically like this:You can build this tool by using a sturdy stick or even a pool cue, and rope or barbed wire, and some nails. Zombies can only be caught from the back and off-guard. When you are capturing a zombie, your move speed should be reduced severely. There are only two ends when catch a zombie, one is tying the stick on the generator, the other is giving up the tool and letting the zombie go.5. How to motivate zombies. Alive Bunnies!! Or any kind of fresh meat. I prefer bunnies, because carrots and vegetables are easy to acquire than meat. This could be a bold try. Image this game would be the first game ever that integrates zombie generator element in it!! I don't know about others, but it is boring after I've done fortifying my safe house and begin farm life. There is no threats from the zombies and no worry about the food, but I just felt bored. It would be so much fun that you know there is a zombie in your backyard working for you, or just keep it as a pet. Aprch and Beesus

nopleaseno
This post reminded me of this: Yeah, this picture is classic. My concept is to use the zombie like a mill donkey.
Xajinit
I think this is a fairly cool idea, but should be very dangerous, IE the zombies can break out of their restraints and start wandering around again, things like that. Overall, I think there's easier and more practical ways to genereate green energy in the zed apoc.

deprav
Ye that's pretty silly indeed xDPlus, if we're soon supposed to clean the dead bodies and blood stains not to get sick, I don't think keeping moving rotting bodies in your safe-place is a brilliant idea ! And if you let them outside, it's a good way to bring more of them and end up surrounded by a horde at some point ;p
Some Clever Username
If you want a pet zombie, just trap them with the bar building stuff, they can't break it... I think. The zombie generator is confusing me a bit, how would it look and work?
