More craftable furniture and some minor improvements to existing ones.

This is my first proposal for PZ. I want to start with saying that I loved the update where crafting shelves and was introduced. It greatly improved the fun from the game for me, since it gave me more practical freedom in customizing my safehouse (I guess I don't need to state the obvious how awesome this game is and how much I appreciate all the new stuff we get with every update).

But then I thought to myself, that it would be cool, if craftable furniture was expanded with a couple more things we could build in our bases. Just to diversify a little bit more the looks of the house.

1. Under-celling cupboards.

Just like those found in some trailers. Or the house a bit south of Farmer's Market in Muldraugh. I'd love to see those in my kitchen.

2. More crate types.

Like those flat from Green's. Or some simple, like fruit-crates.

3. Metal shelves.

Just to avoid all the shelves look the same in the whole house. I know this is a bit problematic in terms of materials used, but why not make a rare loot: a metal shelf construction kit?

4. Metal lockers.

Same as above. We find a kit, we can add a metal locker to our safehouse.

5. Bathroom closet.

A couple of boards, some nails... and a mirror. There, you have a nice bathroom closet in your bathroom, that lacked it before. Could require Carpentry 4 or 5 to construct, since it's more complex furniture construct.

Also it would be great if most tables were turned into containers. I mean - they are a flat surface, where stuff can be placed on. Is there a particular reason why I can't clutter up my kitchen table with some stuff I scavenged?

Another thing - corner shelves. For some reason it is impossible to place shelves in north-west corners of rooms. I'd love to see that fixed.

And the last thing. Not sure if it was ever suggested (probably was, I can't be the first to think about it).

Diversification of container capacity. A huge wardrobe doesn't have the same capacity as a tiny drawer in a small table. Neither does double shelf as a single one.

Well, that's it I guess. Thanks for reading.

I wouldn't mind some constructive criticism.

I say that all those books/magazines/newspapers/pieces of papers could give us different designs and such for furniture and buildables.

Basic carpentry books give basic designs but you might find a carpentry magazine telling you how to make a unique looking chair or table.

That's just eye candy and as I like to say, eye candy is always a welcome addition but only after everything else has been done. And when it comes to chairs, I'd really love to see a sitting animation before more chair sprites :P

Heh, now that I think about it, we have seem to got to the point where zombies are such a huge threat that some of us decided to take on discussions on designing the interiors of our safehouses :P Somebody buff the damn zombies please!

So yesterday I've decided I want to customize my safehouse some more, after spending some 4-6 hours staring at lua scripts I managed to implement some more buildable furniture including corners for shelves.

I'll be trying to implement the stuff in the suggestion over the weekend and If i somehow manage to get it into working order I'll release it as a mod. Still, I can't promise anything, like I said, my coding skills are next to none and even though I seem to pick up on stuff quickly some things are still beyond my comprehension.

Edit: Also, placing shelves in corners in most houses is not possible due to the way they are constructed, in player made houses a corner is made of two walls whereas in pre-built houses it's a single 'wall corner' sprite.

Hey there guys! Thanks for your feedback!

Svarog's post on deconstructing furniture inspired me with a new idea: an assembly skill, which would allow to disassemble and reassemble the world's furniture. I once thought of deconstructing world's furniture too, but dropped the idea due to conclusion it would throw the game out of balance due to tremendous amounts of various materials and rendering scavenging marginal. However this time several improvements for this idea came to my mind.

1. It would be possible to deconstruct pretty much anything you want (doors, dumpsters, furniture, refridgerators, etc.), except walls and floors.

2. Disassembling would require a whole set of tools: a hammer, a screwdriver, a saw, a crowbar.

3. Gathering parts of desired furniture would however require several disassemblies before we could reassemble it for balancing and logical reasons (an attempt to disassemble results in damage to some pieces of deconstructed object, so they need to be replaced with other from identical object). It would also put a heavy strain on the tools used, to restrict that action to really desired to have things.

4. To enforce that effect disassembling would also cause exhaustion and fatigue.

5. The higher skill of assembly, the faster the process would be and the more complex furniture could be assembled.

The thing is, once you fence off your safehouse, get some seeds or have a body of water nearby and clear the surrounding area from zombies, you are pretty much safe and free to make your postapocalyptic life as comfortable as possible ; )

Which is quite okay if you ask me. I don't think we should limit to just slaying hordes of zombies (which is fun too nonetheless). Lets let everybody play the way they want, survival goals remain intact regardless of the playing style.

I like the table idea. I've never really heard that one before.

(I'd also love the option to place food on a table as well, to have a meal with your MP group, or NPC group. Would be cool to see. But upon saying that, this picture comes to mind. :D)

This might seem like an unimportant thing, but I think cluttered tables would make the game more realistic. I suppose most of us saw TWD, where almost everytime some interior is shown, tables are full of miscellaneous items ranging from food and liqours, through tools, up to weapons and ammo.

Svarog, thanks for explaining the corner situation.

BTW, your mod looks pretty awesome. I'd love to see that stuff in the vanilla game.
