  1. Gotta love how often the developers come to the forums to clear things up.
  2. You haven't even made it across the street from your house yet? Bro, if you're having that hard of a time I suggest going into sandbox mode and lowering the zombie density.
  3. Are there any plans to incorporate freezers into the game as a way to preserve food? This would pave the way for several other items, such as ice, ice trays, and coolers. Plus, we would have a way to keep our ice cream from melting!
  4. I used to use Strong and Lucky countered by Hard of Hearing, Light Drinker, Brooding, Short Temper. I think that adds up, might have missed a negative trait. I stopped using traits recently to challenge myself though. Strong is probably the hardest trait to go without. Btw, as a test I turned loot rarity up to abundant, AND got the lucky trait... Every container is literally LOADED. First container I opened had something like 3 baseball bats, 2 normal hiking bags, a big hiking bag, 3 sheets, tons of clothes, sleeping pills... I can't remember everything that was in it. It was pretty ridonk. Still died within a couple days because I set the zombies to insane.
  5. Yea having them bang/claw at the windows with their hands would make the whole thing even more damned scary.
  6. Wow, the framerate is MUCH improved. Haven't had a single hiccup so far. Fantastic update, though I was hoping for 3D models. XD Anyone know if horde migration has been reimplemented?
  7. Can anyone provide a link where the devs state that they aren't going to implement silencers? It's not that I don't believe you, I would just like some confirmation.
  8. I fully support the idea of there being a lot of NPC's starting off, basically simulating that this is the beginning of the outbreak. And maybe being told at game start by either tv/radio to, "STAY INDOORS, BLAH BLAH ZOMBIES". Gotta admit it would be pretty neat looting houses that first day or two and hearing interviews of scientists speculating on what they think is the root/cause, warnings from news stations, even straight up static would really add some atmosphere if a tv or radio was left on. Totally off-topic but relevant to atmosphere, PLEASE let there be flickering lights. That would be so sweeeet.
  9. Haha damn it. I thought of this the other day but wanted to flesh it out more before I made a thread. Coolers would be an awesome way to essentially have a fridge that doesn't require power. The only thing you DO need, is ice. I don't personally know of any ways to freeze water without a fridge, that's what I wanted to look into before I posted this idea. But everyone has seen those freezers in the game. Usually at gas stations, I saw one in the Sunstar Hotel too. Those would logically contain a finite number of bags of ice (that would obviously melt over time being outside of the freezer, or after the power has gone out). Now once generators are implemented, you can power your safehouse fridge (assuming that most refrigerators have a freezer section) and fill up a new item, ice trays. Then you put them in the fridge for a renewable source of ice. Which obviously goes into your cooler, essentially becoming a fridge/duffelbag. It would make sense for it to just be equipped into your secondary slot, and accessed like any other container in your inventory. EDIT: As for the original posts other ideas, I love them all. Would really add a whole new element to the game having so many different ways to preserve a variety of foods. EDIT 2: Oh my god... we should actually have a separate section in the refrigerator that is solely the freezer section. And we can freeze ALL of our perishables, not just make ICE. Steaks, milk, fruits, vegetables, ALL of them would last months as opposed to weeks or days with lesser cooling. At first glance this might sound overpowered, but if you consider the fact you would need to keep a generator running the fridge at all times, it sounds perfectly reasonable and fair.
  10. I think this would be great! I'd love to compare stats with friends while we're playing multiplayer. There could also be a "career" stat page somewhere in the main menu that keeps track of ALL character totals. Even if this wasn't done officially, it sounds like it could be a relatively simple mod.
  11. That song has to be in the mp3 player by default now. Haha.
  12. I'm gonna start casually referring to the end of the world as "the apoc."
  13. http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/104-pancakes-vs-waffles/?p=43145 I knew it!! The Indie Stone 4 Lyfe. <3
  14. When I voted for cake, I meant cheesecake. I hate birthday cake.
  15. Ok there's a few things I want to address. I read as much of this thread as I possibly could, gave up around 10 pages in. First of all, Mitch Hedberg has a few things to say about pancakes and waffles: - As a comedian, you have to start the show strong, and end the show strong. You can't be like pancakes; all exciting at first, but by the end you're f***in sick of em. - A waffle is like a pancake with a syrup trap. - Mitch likes to put fruit on top of his waffles, because he likes to have something to brush off. Thanks Mitch, RIP. So moving on, waffles REQUIRE another item to be put in the game, whether it's a waffle iron or a waffle making appliance. Which is absolutely fine, it just wouldn't be necessary with pancakes. Also, I have an aunt by the name of Rita. Rita makes the best f***ing pancakes I've ever had in my life. Soft on the inside, yet somehow cooked just right so that the exterior has the most delicate and mouth-watering crisp to it. Unbelievable. I voted for pancakes because of my aunt. And because it's a hell of a lot easier to spread peanutbutter on a pancake, and that's something I have to do. To hell with pancakes AND waffles if they don't have peanutbutter AND syrup. French toast would win hands down though if it were an option. P.S. Honestly, considering how grueling of a battle this has been, I wouldn't be surprised if the devs surprised us and included both. Seems like something this lovely team would do.

I see what you did there
  17. Lol, well the idea is that you WOULD try to make it in time. But I digress, it would be a lot of work for the devs to put in a feature that would be witnessed so rarely, and even more rarely witnessed successfully. Even though that's partly what I love about it. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, rarity increases value, those few times when you DID see it in action would be really memorable, whether it worked or not. In my opinion at least!
  18. Apolo, I remember reading that thread and loving the idea. I thought it would be cool to have to manually put it together too. Like a window pops up (similar to health, skill windows) with the pieces of map you've collected from different regions, and you have to really arrange them by your own intellect and knowledge of the area. At the same time this would allow you to write on and mark the map however you see fit. Just an idea.
  19. I started doing a little bit of research to see how unrealistic this idea really was, and here is what I've found. The time it takes for a single drop of blood to circulate is dependent upon the route that it takes. The blood goes to your heart, then to your lungs, then back to your heart, and then to your body, repeatedly. A full circuit would take about 50 seconds according to my source. HOWEVER, I think in this case we aren't worried about how long it takes blood to do a full circulation, but how long it takes blood to go straight to the heart. So somewhere less than 50 seconds for sure. I will try to find a more precise answer on that. Then I looked up how amputations were done back in the civil war era. After some incredibly gruesome reading I found that the mortality rate during the civil war for amputations was 28% While that number still sucks, it's still a lot better than what I had been led to believe, by YOU no less lol. You tried to make it sound like it was a 90% mortality rate. And this is field-amputations we're still talking about here. Something else. I read that "a good surgeon could perform an amputation in under 10 minutes" same article so we're still dealing with field-amputation just to clarify. However, the amputation procedure included the cut (with a bone saw), tying off the arteries with either horsehair, silk, or cotton threads, filing the bone so that it wouldn't puncture the skin later, and finally plastering and bandaging it all up. So naturally, the actual CUT (which is the only thing that needs to be done before the infection circulates through your blood stream) would take some fraction of that 10 minutes and is likely one of the faster steps in the procedure. In YOUR defense, our average joes of PZ aren't exactly "good surgeons" so that original 10 minutes is obviously way off mark. But I'm just trying to make the point that even if this game has to be so realistic to the point that we can't even give ourselves an extra minute of blood circulation time, it would still be possible if the procedure was done right there on the spot. With an approximate 28% chance of death (much better than the 99% chance from a bite). And if a clean tool wasn't used (which apparently they weren't in the civil war) and the wound wasn't cleaned properly, you could catch something deadly like gangrene. Amputation is entirely within the realm of possibility, especially in a video game. Its just most likely going to end with you dying. But your odds are better than just waiting for the infection to kill you. On the other hand, amputation for a completely separate reason is MORE than within the realm of possibility considering you aren't racing to amputate before the infection gets to your heart. More time to prepare and make sure it's done right. Those are my two cents, it's really up to the developers to decide what fits in their game and what doesn't. We're all here on the forums for the same reason, we all love this game and we all have a vision for it, it goes without saying that everyone's visions are going to be a little different. I won't be mad if amputation doesn't make it into the game, its not MY game.... it's just an idea that really fit into my vision of PZ. Just like it really DOESNT fit in your vision of PZ. I concede that you brought up some very valid points and I want to apologize if I came off as a dick at any point. I've been a very active lurker on the forums for at least a couple years now and I've just very recently started posting... Basically, I don't want to continuously be butting heads over this one argument. Agree to disagree? EDIT: thought it was worth noting, Waib I didn't ignore your post, I was just still writing my own post during the time you posted yours, haha.
  20. I made a short list of reasons why I think it should be added to the game in an edit. Not sure if you read my post before or after I did that. As for surviving bites, I'm pretty sure you have a 1% chance not to become infected? Maybe its 5% I don't really know. Either way, odds are you are dead. As you keep pointing out if this was real life, sure you would probably die from attempting amputation. But it's a GAME man, and the devs have said that gameplay is a higher priority than 100% realism. And the fact of the matter is that it is SOMEWHAT realistic. People have amputated themSELVES in the field for whatever reason and still survived. Sure it's not likely, but it is a game. And if you took the time to collect the right tools and supplies, got bit on an arm or a leg, had those same tools and supplies CLOSE BY, you should have more than a 1% chance to survive. Because actually pulling it off would make you feel like a f***ing champ. A real SURVIVOR. Because if we're talking realistically, I'm not gonna get bit and then decide to "walk it off". I'm going to think, "Hmm, I wonder if these thousands of zombies tried 'walking it off'" I don't care if I knew how to correctly perform an amputation or not, that hand/foot/arm/leg is coming right the hell off even if I die trying. But at the same time, if you don't have what you need it isn't an option. Whatever your personal OPINION about it is, there's more opportunity for interesting gameplay mechanics here then you are willing to admit, and I think that a lot of others would agree with me. If this feature was already in the game, I doubt people would be yelling, "DUUUDE, THATS SOOO UNREALISTIC". Because it fits the spirit of the game. In MY opinion anyway.
  21. This would be so fantastic. Imagine playing on a PvP server, and one member of your team spends a good portion of his days searching through different frequencies to find other survivors. If he DOES, you can listen in and maybe find out where their safe house is, or where they are headed. Vice versa, something happens that leads you to believe others have found YOUR teams frequency, you can either relay false bits of information to mislead them, or switch frequencies (even on a regular basis, like every 3 hours adjust frequency by X increment. Or you could even come up with a code so that anyone listening in won't know what the hell you're talking about. Oh the possibilities.
  22. Well first of all, thanks for blowing off the idea as very stupid.. But for your first argument, ok you need specific tools and a clean blade. Don't see why that makes it any worse of an idea, get the tools, and clean the blade if you don't already have a clean blade. The doctor offices could use more variety of loot anyway.Your second argument, ok there's a high chance of the wound getting infected, still don't understand why that diminishes the idea. If anything it just makes amputation that much more in depth and difficult to pull off, as it certainly should be. Third argument, most amputees die (in the field) from either bleeding out or going into shock. Another valid point that really doesn't do much to diminish the idea. It's not supposed to be easy, it's supposed to be last resort. You're going to die from the bite anyway, you try your best with what you've got. If you bleed out because the operation didn't go well then fine. Better than just saying, "ok guys, I'm bit. I'm just gonna drink this bleach." Where's the fun in that? Oh wait, fun is just an opinion. As for the shock, I honestly don't know. Maybe there is a trait you can pick that affects a few things like shock and panic. Nerves of steel? Just an idea. Moving on. Point number four, average joes don't know how to perform an amputation. True. Average joes don't know what a tourniquet is? I doubt that. As for knowledge of amputation, skill books. I already know you're thinking, "You can't learn how to amputate a leg/arm by reading a book." just remember that it's a game and that while realism is important to the developers, gameplay is more important. And who is to say that that master medicine book doesn't explicitly say, "cut here like this and clean like this."? Your fifth point just clarifies that you can't use bandages to treat the wound. Just let the people that think that they could do that bleed out. Next time they are in that situation, they will probably think harder. And why would we have to fashion a home-made tourniquet, when there is a chance you already found one in of the medical offices? It's about being prepared, if you aren't prepared for the operation you just won't succeed. Odds are, if you have a good safe house, you have a medicine cabinet where you can store a tourniquet, sterilized blades, and everything else. Your idea of sterile blades could be used in a number of cases too, not just specifically for amputation. What if a survivor shoots you, but you manage to escape? What if that bullet is still in your body? If your medicine skill is high enough, use a sterile blade to remove the bullet and bandage it. Went a little off topic there, but it all ties together. Moving on. Your next point is that maybe you didn't amputate fast enough to stop the zombie infection. Maybe you didn't, good point. Then you die!! Which is what you were going to do through inaction anyway. At least the bit survivor would have something to TRY. Finally, about the three rules for suggestions. Would it be fun? I think so, but that's just an opinion. Is any other single feature in PZ fun? That's all opinion too. If this rule is going to just be chalked up to the fact that it's only an opinion, maybe it shouldn't be a determining rule, lol. EDIT: I wanted to list a few reasons WHY I think it would be fun. Results in a new job skill (most importantly, one with more than one specific purpose). Results in several new actions available to players (sterilizing blades for medical procedures, removing bullets from wounds, fighting an infection NOT originating from zeds, etc). Results in several new items with purposes, and adds more purposes to existing items (alcohol to sterilize, tourniquets, crutches, slings for an amputated arm, etc). And last but not least, it allows the story of your survivor to go in so many new directions. Even small things like the blood stains that would be left in your safe house after the operation, would add such a cool feeling to the game. Imagine you really pulled off a leg amputation, and you're standing on crutches a month later staring at that blood on the ground like, "Man! I remember that... That was intense. Can't believe it worked." Is it realistic? You say no, but what you mean, is that it's not realistic to succeed with any great probability. It is ABSOLUTELY realistic to try. Considering the only other option is death. I would try 10/10 times. Is it something an average joe can do? Once again, it's something an average joe can try. And if that average joe had all the tools he needed, and had read all 5 medicine skill books, he might just succeed. Last thing I will add (this post is long) is that the one performing the operation doesn't have to succeed in every aspect of the surgery. Let's say he gets the cut right. And the tourniquet. You won't bleed out now. But he didn't clean it good enough. That's a whole new gameplay element of trying to fight off infection now. Yet another use for the medicine skill. All in all, your points really just helped flesh the idea out further instead of proving how very stupid it would be.
  23. I have thought a lot about amputation, and I absolutely love the idea and what it would bring to the game. Imagine you and a couple buddies fighting off a horde at your safe house, bam you get bit in the leg. You immediately run back in the house and grab the tourniquet you looted from your local doctors office, while your friend runs to grab the saw. Depending on how long it took you to grab whatever you need, your chances of stopping the infection drop immensely, also take into account the panic level of whoever is doing the operation, maybe they should take some beta blockers beforehand to help steady their hands. If you don't have any buddies? You're gonna need some painkillers too to perform the surgery without passing out. Now hypothetically, surgery complete, you no longer have a leg, maybe you stopped the infection, maybe you didn't. That horde is still knocking on your doors. Did you find it worth looting those bulky crutches from your neighbors house? If not, you'll have to put your arm around a fellow survivor, and they'll have to help walk you off to safety. Another aspect I love is that you could just be downright unlucky and get bitten in the head. Or torso. Not gonna be much help amputating those. And as I think somebody else mentioned, amputating an arm could have the side effect of losing your secondary slot. Either way, amputation may help you survive longer, but the consequences are no picnic. Survival with one of your limbs missing will make things very hard for you.
  24. If I'm not mistaken, the devs have already confirmed driveable vehicles to some degree. The main catch being that gasoline is a rare commodity, and it's used for multiple purposes. So you really have to think about how and when to use it effectively.
