also you can use a pickaxe to mine faster/get better stuff
edit : I think holding a shovel works like a lighter tier pickaxe, i may be incorrect though

I believe it was stated by a dev that those different looking vehicle windows are just place holders til the anims are implemented, once that's in we'll be able to see the 3D interiors through the new clear vehicle windows
edit : same with the solid black when the window is open/removed

Vehicles were merged with the IWBUMS branch.
