    Hello desperate survivor. I can offer you the latest news on Project Zomboid development in return for two Spiffos OR ten nails. Okay, thank you. That will just about do. Now let’s just go our separate ways… but not before we hit you with the baseball bat of Build 32 banditry of course!
    Build 32 is currently in internal testing – the top-line of which is the extended crafting system (featuring traps and generators), the new challenges, the new tutorial and a myriad of tweaks, fixes and under-the-hood fiddlings. It’s going well so far. Here are some new items of note that will also feature.
    New Zombie Respawn and Management system
    Deep in EasyPickins’ Canadian fix factory, a new zombie-respawning system has emerged from a fiery furnace. Below is a pictorial rendition, accompanied by the man himself’s explanation.
    “This picture shows a part of West Point. Each large rectangle is one cell (300×300 tiles). The small rectangle is the loaded part of the map around the player. Each red dot is one zombie. The yellow dots are the ‘real’ zombies in the loaded part of the map. In the top-left corner of each cell you can see the number of zombies in that cell followed by the number of zombies there were when the game first started (the desired population). The third number is how many hours before new zombies can spawn.”

    “The sandbox option ‘Zombies Respawn Interval’ controls how often zombies respawn. Zombies will respawn only when the current population in a cell is lower than the desired population. In multiplayer, the HoursForZombiesRespawn server option is used instead. In survival mode this is set to ‘Every Day’. Meanwhile, the sandbox option ‘Zombies Respawn Percent’ controls how many zombies respawn in each of these intervals – adding a percentage and then another percentage until it hits a overall desired population. In MP the ZombiesRespawnPercent server option is used instead, and in Survival mode this is set to ‘10 percent’.
    “Zombies won’t respawn in loaded parts of the map. This is to avoid zombies popping up in front of the player, and to double-down on stopping players from noticing it they also won’t spawn in any part of the map that was loaded within the last hour of game time.”
    “Another benefit of this new system is that zombies should never respawn in any buildings or fenced-off areas. The game will check to see if there is a clear path from one randomly-chosen square on the edge of the world to the place it wants to place new zombies. If a path can’t be found, then no zombies will be spawned in that part of the map.”
    You Have One Day Challenge
    A challenge that we’re getting ready now, but will likely release towards the end of the Build 32 IWBUMS process to keep things fresh, is a challenge that takes place in the old PZ map from the 0.1.5d days. Community mapper BobHeckling rebuilt it with the current PZ toolset, and with his permission it’s now going to be part of the full game.
    The challenge gives you one day of relative safety – filled with only sporadic zombies who won’t attack you. Come morning, however, zombies will arrive in huge numbers – and they will find you.

     
    The jury is currently out on whether we recreate the old jukebox crash bug, but other than that your nostalgia glands should be pumping out rose-tinted endorphins like no-one’s business…
    Death by Mall
    The moment the zeds break through in the Opening Hours challenge is so much fun that we wanted to share. Slight spoilers in that it’s better to play, rather than watch. (It’s still good to watch though!)
     

    Other Stuff
    There’s currently a lot of work going into making the online experience smoother and far less niggly both as player and admin. There’s several irons in the fire on this one, some big and some small, so hopefully you’ll start to see improvements in both build 32 and 33. Oh, and in 32 you can remove broken glass from windows too by the way. Which will be a relief to patched up legs/groins everywhere.
    We’ll hopefully be seeing some streamers and youtubers blessed with an early version of Build 32 showing off our wares later this week, so keep an eye on @theindiestone for news on that. See you all next week!

    Short, sharp Mondoid this week because, yes, Build 32 is now in public IWBUMS testing. If you’re not aware of this process then check out this thread, agree to the consequences and start downloading. Report the bugs you find on the bugtracker here, and gameplay feedback and balance below this lovely changelist post.  We’d especially like to hear your thoughts on tweaking the new challenges towards maximum fun.
    Included in Build 32 are the new tutorial, two new challenges, EP’s new zombie management system and RJ’s new professions, generators and trap/bomb crafting. In fact, we gave the keys of the build to youtuber ManBearPig and he recorded the following rundown.
     

    Finally, MP players who are looking for more ways to deal with griefing might also be interested in reading about RJ’s new (optional) "claim safehouse" server option that’s also a part of Build 32.

    You might want to look into a technique called dithering. Depending on how much space you have on an object it might help to blend colours.
    Stuff like your bowling ball sprite might benefit from it
    Also, try to rework the edges of round object, especially the bowling ball.
    Some other stuff might benefit from "implied lines", too.
    There are great tutorials in the internet that you can and should make use of.
    One of the oldest but bestestest I know (which was way back in the day when I had a two-day love-affair with pixel art and then dropped it like it was a hot potato) is this one:

    It covers a lot (a metric fuckton) but some chapters will definitely help you improve.
    There are a lot of guidelines that will appear logical to you and are easy to grasp and internalise.

    The original water textures will be needed for fishing.
    And this texture don't exist on my map.
    Therefore I must rewrite the lua-script of fishing.
    And if you could fish on my map, you would only catch fishes from Kentucky.

    Dreadwood is being updated with a new layout! I apologize for the old map, but due to complications it's unworkable right now. Keep an eye out for updates. 
     
    Care to take a look at the large upper class houses in the suburban side of town? Beware of the dead who inhabit the once snobby area. Or perhaps you'll enjoy a stay at a five star hotel in the city? It may be your only safety in a city swamped in the dead. Those who get away from the population will find dangerous abandoned buildings, winding trails, and  trailer park homes. Wherever you so choose to stay..

    Changelog to 2.41a
    - 3D WorldModels of Spraycans and Chalk
    - A lot of new symbols to spray (alphabet, numbers, special characters, special symbols)
    - Every symbol is now drawn in 2x tile size
    - Replacing of the menu button
    - Resizing of symbol menu buttons
    KNOWN ISSUES:
    - Existing colours of e.g. blue will change after spraying the same symbol in e.g. red (after loading save game the colour is back to wanted colour)
    - Because of redesigning the menu I had to remove the ability to draw with chalk (it will back in the next version)

    You can find Spray Cans and Chalk in some of the containers.
    - 9 colours (black, white, red, blue, green, yellow, orange, violet, cyan) (chalk not in black)
    - A lot of symbols (alphabet, numbers, special characters, special symbols)
    Every spray can and piece of chalk has 40 uses.

    - If you have one spray can or piece of chalk in your main inventory, you can open the spray paint menu to begin to spray/draw.
    - After clicking on one of the symbol-buttons, a ghost tile of the symbol appears on your cursor.
    - Now click left on the position you want.
    - Your character will start spraying.

    Info:
    - You can't spray on natural tiles! Next Version, probably.

    planned for the next versions:
    - adding north,south,west,east versions of every symbol (textures are already done)
    - spraying on walls (textures are already done)
    - complex texts on walls with chalk
    - timedAction and walkTo
    - sounds
    - graffiti
    - attack zombies with spray cans to make them blind and without sense of smell (animation also planned)

    The idea
     
    To slowly have the map detoriate over time, nature grows wild and the urban areas slowly decay.
     
    What will the mod do?
     
    Currently the planning is for Erosion to add the following effects to the game:
     
    Plantlife:Nature will slowly start to take over, popping up on natural tiles. Currently plants have 6 stages (low grass to tree), only the most fertile spots will reach the maximum. Random special objects with a very low chance of spawning (imagine a dead campfire and the likes). Streets:Big cracks in the road that gradually become more intense. Patches of cracked road where grass and stuff grows through. More litter and garbage appearing over time. Random special objects with a very low chance of spawning (a pile of zombie corpses for example). Houses (exterior):Cracks that can appear on over time. Vines that slowly takover a part of a wall. Windows have a chance to be broken over time (idea by RobertJohnson) Doors have a tiny chance to pop open at some point. Random stuff like smudges and what not.

    Gonna go ahead and put the IP for my niftly little PVP server up here. It has more than 12gb of dedicated memory so hopefully lag will be kept at a minimum. I have already tested it with friends and dozens of people have connected to it without fault.
     
    There is only one rule on the server: Don't bugabuse.
     
    Anyone is free to join and resets will only be done at a majority of player's requests. And while I'm not gonna make it a requirement, It is still recommended, however, that you join with some kind of Username in order to make global chatting less of a clusterf*ck.
     
    Characters and their skills along with your inventories will be saved upon exiting the game, so don't worry about logging out for a break!

    UPDATE 1: Server is smack-full almost all of the time and running over 11,000,000+ dedicated memory to the java.exe (and growing). Please try to not spam connect attempts.
     
     
    UPDATE 2: Demand just keeps on increasing and I feel awful having to keep on having to tell people trying to connect that there's no more slots.
     
    Will have to buy another dedicated server computer to accomplish this as a student, which means I'm gonna have to do a ton of freelance work on the net. Expect increases in lag during certain short periods because of this as I take some of the net speed in order to upload my works.
     
    UPDATE 3: Had loads of fun with hundreds of people and gathered tons of data for the devs to process but running a server like this non-stop is nothing short of impossible due to the small maps, increase in lag and lack of zombies & loot & respawn mechanics. I will most likely be putting the server back up once Build 25 is out. It depends on how many features the developers put in, but until then, I'll be trying my hardest to improve on the server, and hopefully, making it to serverS.

    hey guys, played on a few servers here and there, I am mainly playing in one particular server now.
    that is besides the point though. I have found some good people to play with and some annoying ones.. right now I just want to find a couple normal people who want to explore and survive together. maybe even thrive together.
