  1. You won't stop people from using it, unless you resort to draconian measures like the death penalty. It's more pragmatic to legalize it, tax it, and use the taxes to pay for negative consequences of their drug use.
  2. The dictators of TIS only alows 5 Clydes /sadface But congrats anyway
  3. Reality is clearly liberally biased when it concerns decriminalization/ legalization of drugs, and indeed the social experiments done in Europe, (among others in Portugal, Denmark, Switzerland and the Netherlands indicate that decriminalization/legalization of drugs does not result in an increase in drug use but does stop a lot of problems associated with drug use. Also: "Gateway Drug" belongs on the same pile as "Reefer Madness" and all the other anti-drug scaremongering tactics. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1448346/
  4. In this discussion it's not so much about the ultimate result, but about the ethics and therefore the intend. A woman who has an abortion will generally not consider the fetus as a human being, so even if it would be a person, abortion would be something along the lines of Involuntary manslaughter. But of course "Abortion is involuntary manslaughter", just doesn't have the same ring to it as "Abortion is Murder".
  5. If that's true it's due to flaws in the adoption system, and not because there's a shortage of kids waiting for adoption. For the US alone the number is around 150.000, and since the US is a well to do nation, you can bet that it's worse in most other places. Whatever the adoption system needs, more unwanted children is not one of those things. We've got millions and millions of those http://www.adoptamericanetwork.org/waiting-children/
  6. Rape will probably always exist, but I think we can come (and actually have come) a long way, and of course the impossibility of reaching an ideal doesn't imply we should we shouldn't try to get as close as possible. Not all that long ago rape was more or less considered as (serious) property crime and no crime at all if the "right" person (usually the husband) was doing the raping. Women who went out without a chaperon where asking for "it" etc. etc. Nowadays on many public beaches in the Western world (and maybe some other places I don't know of), women can indeed go topless, and most men understand that they're still not asking for it. Yes, there are rapists but the last thing we should do is pretend there's mitigating circumstances for rape. Rape cultures do exist. Cultures in which a woman can walk around in a portable tent all she likes, but may find herself under a pile of gang rape for the slightest transgression anyway. If she's lucky she's "just" raped, and if not she's consequently sentenced to be beaten to a bloody pulp because of being a slut. I would like to stay away from that as far as I possibly can.
  7. Not to bash Muslims in general, but I've heard more than a few Muslims make a similar argument about veils. Of course an unveiled woman doesn't ask to be raped, but a responsible woman wears a veil. Who gets to decide what's provocative, and should women start wearing veils because some thing unveiled women are asking for it? I kinda do see the point about provocative clothing, but I don't think we should facilitate that type of nonsense at all, and work on creating a society were a woman can go everywhere butt-naked if she want, without fearing baboons who don't understand the basic principle of consent. If one suspects a woman is asking for "it", and one thinks they're the one who should give "it"to her, one can remove any doubt by asking her if she want "it". Anyone who doesn't get that, is a danger to society and should be removed from it.
  8. A lot of things can be considered trolling, but pointing out inaccuracy is not one of those things.
  9. "You're wrong, now shut up" This is not how discussions work, and no, mental health issues caused by loneliness and psychological trauma aren't schizophrenia. At least not outside the context of the Hollywood pulp I was referring to.
  10. Realism is one of the goals of the game, so please don't implement the Hollywood pulp take on insanity, in which schizophrenia is developed in the same way as PTSD and results typically in photo-realistic hallucinations.
  11. Whoa whoa, ain't that picture from some sort of zombie-book where the people aren't undead but just plain crazy cannibals? More like plain crazy torture-rape-murderers. The cannibalism is actually one of the more pleasant things they do on the side. But it's actually a decent comic series and not the cheap torture porn it appears to be on first glance. And it's available for free on the interwebz: http://www.crossedcomic.com/ And Jackson's sheep WAS well-earned.
  12. 1) too complicated for me. I think much of it can be traced back to the fact that traditional gender roles still exist to some extend. Voted no cause while I'm inclined to think there is a lot of discrimination, it isn't Systematic with a capital S. 2) I voted no. I have no reason to believe Western Culture in general facilitates rape to the point it can be considered a rape culture. That doesn't mean that things like blaming the victim and slut shaming aren't uncommon. Also I think it's more constructive to be more specific about rape than to use a rather vague concept like rape culture. 3) Abortion is a complicated issue in the sense as to where the line should be drawn. Early abortion is pretty straightforward; in the first 4 months (during which an overwhelming majority of abortions take place, btw) there's nothing controversial about it. The fetus is a lump of tissue that has the potential to become a human being, but isn't one yet. All kinds of potential persons never happen, nature/God is the most proficient abortionist of all and miscarriages are rarely treated as regular deaths. It's not a big deal in my book. 6 month and up it definitely is a big deal (an in: at least manslaughter). and as far as I'm concerned the controversial time is roughly between those two lines. Other moral considerations are the morality of bringing an unwanted kid in a world that's already full of unwanted kids and orphans. I think to many people still think of "Annie" when they hear the word orphan, but the reality of it is a lot less fun and void of catchy songs. One can ask themselves how ethical it is for women who ditch their child after carrying it to term because of their beliefs. I think it's pretty egocentric in its own right. Also interesting to note. It's clear the great majority of so called pro-lifers don't bother to adopt said orphans and abandoned kids. It's rather hypocritical if you think of it, and it illustrates that they're actually just pro-birthers that don't really give a f*** about the well-being of said kids.
  13. The inability to save is like the point of the game. Including a save option would rip out the soul of the game. Other than that it's pretty easy to cheat anyway.
  14. More guns indeed, and then the devs should call them by their type only, but some should be called by the wrong designation. i.e. a pistol should be called a revolver. I suspect this would generate serious amounts of drama, and drama is good.
  15. It depends a lot whether zombies are interested in eating animals, if that is the case the only really useful animals are the ones you can control to a great extend, like dogs, or the ones who are silent AND/OR able to operate almost independent from you like cats. anything else would just advertise their, and consequently your position to the zombies. If the zombies aren't interested in animals, I'd take the hint from historyy and go with goats. For the wabbit-mongers this might be interesting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_starvation
  16. Well, it sort of ended my long quest in search for a suitable avatar for the PZ forums..... Here, a Clyde for you:

    Bikes?

Let me rephrase: Bicycles would be one of the more obvious modes of transportation, for people who know how to ride one. Anyway, being Dutch might play a role her. I cycled practically before learned to walk, I use a bicycle on a day to day basis and I've a decent physical condition because of the 100+ kilometers I ride every week because I prefer the bike over my car.

    Bikes?

Lies!!! You voted against it, you bicyclephobe! Bicycles would be one of the more obvious modes of transportation. In addition to the things you mentioned, bicycles are ideal to maneuver around all the clogged-up apocalyptic roads.
