something cool is also finding a grinder to re sharp your axe or knife. And making spears of just wood.

I know locks are already planned to be added.  And to go with them, I would like to suggest reinforcing doors.

Reinforcing doors would be similar to barricading them, except that you can still open the door and you cannot remove the reinforcements.  For example: Say steve builds a door, he is on a multiplayer server and doesn't want his stuff stolen, so he uses 6 hinges as opposed to 2.  The door would now require more damage to break the hinges (I am assuming it is the hinges that break and not the doorknob since the entire door breaks down rather than bursting open.).  Also suppose he finds some sheet metal in a warehouse.  He then attaches the sheet metal to the door, further protecting it from things like axes and sledgehammers.  To reinforce doorknobs, you could add another knob and use both hands to open the door, or use deadbolts to not only lock the door but to reinforce it.

Edit: Also pushing furniture and things in front of the door to prevent entry. (by liongoat)

They should hold off on this sort of thing until we get the dragons in.

If I were looting a house  in zombie world I would always knock/hit on the door to be sure there are no zombies. Just like they do in the Walking Dead. It's simple and natural.

    +1 to this idea

Old Embers. It should be possible to reignite a fire using old embers from the previous day's fire. Old embers hide underneath the ashes, staying warm because of the ash blanketing them. Stir the ash around a bit to expose them and add some dry grass, some ripped bandages or torn up papers to get it going. Then add your choice of fuel and boom! Fire ready to go without an ignition source. Should be viable for up to a day or two since the previous fire, but no longer than that.

Chopping Firewood. After you get the log into your inventory, right click it and select "Split Wood". If you've got an axe on your character, it splits the wood into four smaller pieces of firewood that should burn for a fair length of time. I suggest this because putting a whole log onto a fire is a bit wasteful. It burns bright and hot but goes through the fuel faster as a result. By splitting the log into firewood, you can get smaller, more manageable fires that last for a longer time. Should also be easier to cook on them because the heat output is more manageable. Less likely to burn food.

Stacks of Firewood. After you split logs into firewood, you should be able to use them to build a "Stack of Firewood". It's pretty much a storage unit, but exclusively for firewood. Place it a space or two away from your source of fire (right now that's just a campfire, but may expand to include other things like brick ovens, fireplaces, and smokehouses). If you have a" Stack of Firewood" within a couple blocks of a source of fire, you can then right click an ongoing fire and select the option "Add Firewood from Stack". This makes your character pull a piece of firewood from the nearby stack and throw it on the fire without having to juggle it around your inventory. Make things easier and more streamlined.

There's not any real reason for this at all in the southern US. Aside from the absolutely overwhelming abundance of insect life here, even in the winter, there's also an infinite number of items to use as a lure. A bit of string or literally any small, shiny object (coin, tin foil, bottle cap, paper clip) or any small, colorful object can be used as a lure that works fine. My cousin caught a huge bass in front of my eyes by casting an empty hook into a lake here. Fish aren't exactly scarce, and if they're not biting it's not because of your bait or lure.

I cannot express the anger I feel when I guess that the other side of the door is free of zombies yet I end up running into a group of them

Why can't my character look through the glass present on the door?
Or use some kind of peephole to check for zombies?

I think this should be added into the game

So my idea came from when if you get killed by a bunch of zombies you can see more blood coming out of your corpse and you can hear "munching" sounds, but the zombies are just standing there doing absolutely nothing. so I think that the zombies should have animations of them crouching down and eating and i think that when they are eating somebody's corpse in multiplayer (or an npc in singleplayer) they should have a lower awareness level making you more able to sneak past them.

Please post any suggestions in the comments

Update: I also found some OLD sprites in the game's files of gibs which usually appeared in alpha when you were being nommed on by some zambies, so I think they should also HD-ify them and use those for when you get mauled and if they do eventually add amputations and gore

In the classic zombie apocalypse the true monsters are survivors. When NPCs will appear they will surely pose a threat.

Also as of this moment, zombies do not migrate, so it is easy to clear surroundings of your safehouse and never bother about zeds ever again.

"So people with higher ping might have a considerable advantage. This needs to be fixed as this is one of the two main reasons that zombies aren't a threat"

Nu uh. Zombies are 100% server side. People with a large ping do NOT have an advantage.

The main problem is the grabbing mechanic doesn't work in MP yet, and zombie vision doesn't work right yet. This will be fixed. There are other tweaks or optimizations we can make to make it closer to SP. Have faith.

So how do you cope with the never ending agony. It's irritating me just seeing it there in the corner the whole time. That fever loop is just pure evil.

Interesting story so far on this challenge. Start in Muldraugh make my way west? (top left of screen) and make it to the Motel. So all is well while I try to figure where to go considering that they just keep increasing in numbers to the south (bottom left) and that's the direction I was headed. Just before waking up a god damned chopper flies overhead, I was sleeping on the second floor. A brief "I can see through walls" glitch shows that all of them, atleast 15 or more are heading right at the stairs. So shitting bricks I make my way to the door and hear the first thud. Search my inventory, no sheets, check the room and find no sheets either. So I figure I can open and slam the door in their face to atleast how many are out there. One baseball bat swing and a door slam later nothing is inside but there is no way to get out. So I break the window to the north, check if I can make a sheet rope from the vest (thank god) but can't attach the damned rope to the window. Figuring I have nothing to lose I jumped, almost died but nothing broken. That was 6 days ago. So far 12 days, 150 kills, 3 scratches and going.
