  1. I like the idea of having to grapple with a zombie on the ground. Are you strong enough and not tired enough to push them off? Do you have a weapon easily accessible (on your belt or in your hand) that could be used to kill the zombie? A baseball bat or axe isn't going to be of much use in this situation unless they can be used as a bar to keep the zombie off of you.
  2. 1149. When wearing sunglasses maybe the world could be shaded darker. Maybe a boost to viewing range on a sunny day.
  3. Loving the update so far! I wanted to provide some constructive criticism on the sounds I noticed. The tree chopping sound to me sounds a bit “hollow” or “echoey”. Almost like the tree is a bit hollow and I personally feel like it should be a bit more of a deadening thud. I also made a report that that the car sounds while driving with the Sunday Driver trait are stuck at a high RPM. Hopefully that could be balanced to provide a lower RPM sound since Sunday Driver’s aren’t known for being pedal to the metal drivers. Overall I’m having a blast experiencing the new immersion!
  4. When you choose the Sunday Driver negative trait the sound of the engine at max speed is too high. A "Sunday Driver" would be someone who drives slow intentionally. Not someone who has the pedal to the metal maxing out the RPMs. It seems like the Sunday Driver trait functions by not allowing you to use more than a few lower gears and it won't shift into higher gears? Is that how it caps the speed to a lower speed? Maybe there's a way to allow a shift into the next gear up but prevent the RPMs from rising in that gear? Either way, try it out. It does not sound like a "Sunday Driver" to me.
  5. The military had GPS. Civilians did not have access to GPS until 1983 (and was only given to the world because the Soviet Union shot down a Korean passenger jet that was off course). The US realized that could have been avoided if they shared some tech. But there was a catch; its accuracy was purposefully degraded to about 100 meters. It would give your general location (in lat/long) but was very “inaccurate” for the civilian user. The full GPS constellation wasn’t even operational until 1993. Then in 2000 its accuracy degradation was lifted. So the timeframe doesn’t quite fit with expecting to find a useful GPS unit. Even giving it a little bit of wiggle room with that and it’d be unrealistic to expect many civilians to have adopted it by then. Certainly no GPS maps yet for the PZ timeframe. There was no GPS in cell phones until 1999.
  6. Most of these are great ideas! Maybe, not what the OP meant, but earbuds and headphones can be worn when attached to a radio so that they can be listened to quietly. TBH wallets as containers seems like a waste. There’s no point in carrying around cash, credit cards, etc. Yeah if cash could be used as kindling like the OP suggested there’s a small reason. But you could just stuff the worthless kindling wherever. A wallet just makes carrying cash and credit cards easier and more convenient and there’s just no need for that. But yes; let us burn cash!
  7. That orbiting video cracked me up! I can not agree more after watching that.
  8. Yeah lamp posts, log bundles (the most useful), and log walls are the only uses I know of right now. Can they even be used as “sheet ropes”? I would assume they can, but I have never tried in recent memory.
  9. I am not dedicated to being against your idea. I gave two suggestions to go along with the idea to improve on ropes being used for log walls. Ropes are a rare resource and likely wouldn’t be a players first choice (in Project Zomboid) to build a log wall. But if there were actual IRL zombies that I wanted to keep out and I had three choices of ripped sheets (likely cotton), twine, and ropes to hold a wall of logs together; I would absolutely use rope. I suggested braiding ripped sheets into ropes. This would solve the scarcity issue of rope. It could be a skill for tailoring. Use the nearly endless ripped sheets to make useful ropes. Sort of like how you can saw the nearly endless logs to make planks for carpentry. I also suggested a context menu when choosing to build a log wall so the player could choose which recipe to use. Just like you have for cooking or for example when starting a fire. You are right that a player wouldn’t choose a rope instead of ripped sheets with how Project Zomboid currently is. However, I disagree that we shouldn’t be using ropes to build log walls. The realism of holding hundreds if not thousands of (pick your measurement of weight) together with some ripped tshirts is just unrealistic.
  10. This as an argument, a bit ironically, just does not make sense. Ropes are used in the recipe to make log walls. Drinking bleach is not a solution for thirst. Yes its a liquid, but you’re making quite a reach. Now if you you told your character to drink and they were out of potable water and they decided to drink non-potable water then maybe that could be a better argument. Your character only automatically drinks when they have potable water. Log walls aren’t made automatically. They are placed each time you tell your character to make one and only one. Your character checks their inventory each time to see if they have the necessary ingredients to meet the recipe. If yes, they build one log wall. Perhaps when choosing to build log walls you could have a context menu choosing which recipe they’ll use? Kinda like how cooking works with different ingredients for a recipe.
  11. “Retarded” is offensive. Be lovely. Maybe braiding ripped sheets into rope is a solution. “Solves” the realism issue (at least makes it better) and the rope shortage issues. Could be a tailoring skill.
  12. TBH; only ropes should be able to be used to build log walls. Can you imagine the weight of multiple 8ft logs being held together by some strips of ripped cloth or twine? Its just not realistic. However, gameplay sometimes has to beat realism. There just aren’t enough ropes spawning in game to make building log walls a plausible thing to do; which is likely why you’re upset. Ropes aren’t very common to find. I think ideally removing the ability to use ripped sheets and twine to build log walls while increasing the spawn rate of rope would be the way to go.
  13. Yep! To give more context: at the top of the stairs I had placed a doorway. Twice while going up the stairs I hit “E” early before getting to the door. My character hopped the railing into the “corridor” instead of opening the door. They fell through the floor after hopping the railing and ended up on the 1st floor. I don’t know if this happens every time, but the two times I did it my character has fallen through the floor and has gotten injured. Not eager to test it further 😝. Happened the first time and I thought it was odd and a glitch. Happened again and I thought I had better report it. I have accidentally done it going the other way as well. I hit “E” and hopped the railing from the “corridor” onto the stairs. No issues going that direction and everything happens as expected.
  14. When climbing a set of stairs I have hit "E" and hopped the stairwell railing. Doing so has caused me to fall through the floor of the second story and land on the first floor causing a loss of health. I have observed this happen twice. The observed issue occurred here: https://map.projectzomboid.com/#0.5252641104354852,0.08880894354184916,776.925006270379
  15. 1136. Use broken spears for fuel in fires. Allow us to throw broken spears into a fire as a source of fuel. They are crafted from planks and tree branches which can be used as fuel. Why wouldn't a spear be able to be used as fuel?
  16. 1135. Add existing gardens of vegetables to the game. There are lots of farms and houses with garden plots. None of them have potatoes, tomatoes, radishes, strawberries, cabbages, broccoli, or carrots growing in them when starting a new map.
  17. Yeah something seems off there. Pretty sure planks give 2 hours of burn time in a campfire and logs give 4 hours.
  18. What if our characters wore a certain size shoe and that shoes had different sizes? Too small; you can't wear them. Too big; you get a movement penalty for wearing them. Could maybe have shoes that are a little too small cause pain. A little too big would not have as bad of a movement penalty.
  19. I like the idea of gasoline supplies being finite. This is realistic and a welcome change. My concern is that there are no other practical ways to preserve food. We can use canning, but the jars and lids are also a finite resource and are very difficult to find. Could we add root cellars, zeer pots, and/or drying and smoking meats? These are ancient techniques and aren't limited to finite resources. We could also add fermenting veggies and salting meats (but those would use finite resources). Also, I gotta say it: Bicycles
  20. I suggest the sprites displayed for items on shelves be tied to the items that are stored there. The attached image is an example of what I mean. A shotgun and a cowboy hat are displayed as books.
  21. Maybe have to examine (timed action) an object you find first, then you can make it later?
  22. I too was expecting a performance improvement. I have a pretty solid rig for gaming and getting 15fps zoomed out seems very low to me. I haven’t put any serious playtime into Zomboid since fall of 2018. Been following the Zomboids weekly and we (a group that plays together) are eager to get back into playing the game regularly. But we decided to stop playing 1.5 years ago knowing that our saves would be lost when the impending animation update landed. Now we are waiting on MP. I install all the updates and play a little bit to keep up-to-date. I shared in an earlier post that I am getting WAY lower FPS zoomed out despite not having any significant change in CPU or GPU demand. Seems like performance got a lot worse, and not better with the new zoom system. All constructive feedback hopefully from me. I understand this is a beta branch to test things and I’m sharing my experience to hopefully help 🍻!
  23. I just want to give some feedback on the new zoom system. Zoomed in all the way I am getting about 90fps. Zoomed out all the way I am getting about 15fps. Settings: Everything maxed. Specs: Windows 10 Home i5 9600k 3.7ghz OC'd to 4.4ghz - Zoomed in CPU Utilization is about 60% - Zoomed out CPU utilization is about 55% Nvidia Titan XP 12gb -Zoomed in GPU Utilization about 40% and 15% memory usage -Zoomed out GPU Utilization about 33% and 15% memory usage 32gb RAM 3200mhz Without significant differences in CPU/GPU demand, I am surprised at the significant FPS difference.
