Unsaid
The most similar thread I could find went offtopic, so I'll post the first couple of suggestions that came to my fresh (just bought the game and tried multiplayer 2 days ago) mind. The first thing my friend and I did when we got to know the game was going to the police station where we thought we'd be able to procure a gun and although the server was freshly reset and there were like dozens of zombies around, we still easily managed to just get inside and safely take it...That was a very entertaining experience for once , but I think that such a game should ( and i hope it will become) be a lot more difficult and slightly more realistic. The most logical ,as it seems to me, way to make an improvement to it is to add some things like steel doors ( that you can not break ) that you'd have to have a key for to open. Or at least some key-requiring lockers for keeping guns in them, because ,hell, that's how guns are supposed to be kept everywhere in real life . The location of the key(s) for one safe should be randomized and it should be in some table/desk on the first floor if the safe is on the ground floor, or in a zombie in the same district. Maybe even simply lying somewhere on the floor ? Who knows. This would add a lot more replayability, depths and realism to this game that's already full of potential. In addition I'll mention that this is something that's extremely easy to implement and should really not be impossible with the current engine the game is running and will only require simple (yet already overdue) interface improvements ! It's really not intuitive and bugged anyways , so why not take this opportunity and overhaul it + add keys and things they unlock.thanks in advance. Kurruk
I hate to break it to you, but any kind of safety can be bypassed. Even if you'll make some titanium door with eye/finger/blood/piss scanner, someone can destroy a wall next to it with a sledgehammer...
Kajin
There's no way a survivor salvaging materials from the leftover dregs of humanity is gonna be able to make a door or vault secure enough to withstand the determined assault of someone who wants whatever is inside. If we're gonna have some kind of secure storage, I'd rather it be some kind of hidden storage.
Unsaid
well it only means there's another level to do tweaking at... not EVERY wall should be destroyable with a few seconds' effort, right ?And just clarifying - you are not supposed to MAKE it out of salvaged parts or anything. They just have to already be there. To hell with locking-unlocking feature, but imo, at least one-time "consumable" keys for some certain safes would do the trick... Jela331
Make crates in the woods and store stuff there instead of your house or barricade the door with planks or make a wooden wall holding it. I'd prefer crates in the woods.

I'd prefer crates in the woods.Well I don't wanna be hostile or anything , but all of the people replying just seem to misunderstand my message completely... I don't have any wish to store anything anywhere. at all. I don't see why anyone would want to do it. I just don't want things like serious weapons lying around in damn wooden crates, because it's too easy to acquire them in a matter of 10 seconds from the very beginning of the game. unsaved_progress
I really like OP suggestions of randomised keys for safes, especially if its on a zombie (wearing a police uniform if in police station, some identifier). I think that would be a substantially worth it, cool thing to add. I could take or leave metal doors like everyone (including OP) has said, but safes and random key placement is a cool idea. Suomiboi
I think this would be an O.K. idea if done correctly. I'd prefer if the keys to objects were found in the houses themselves, not in zombies as it would be basically impossible to find a match IRL and would create too many clutter keys. Perhaps profession related keys could be found though... I'd rather have a small key-cupboard (don't know if there's a word for it...) next to the door in some houses, where the keys are kept. Then on other houses that do not have the cupboards they could be in a general place like a nightstand or some sort of cabinet that made sense irl. The keys would be generated at random in the containers and there could be ie. 0-3 for every house and if you don't find a key, tough luck... This way you could lock the doors if you'd find a key in a house and if you don't, a break-in is the only option, if you have the tools/skills for that. Same for locked containers (safes etc.). If no key is to be found you could make a wooden bar or latch, as I've suggested here, to the inside of the door to keep people out, when your in. Also you could sneak out with a sheet rope, but that would make your safe house vulnerable. EDIT: @RoboMat: We need this in your lockpicking mod!!! darthdraken
Destroying a brick wall two layers thick should take a while to drop down with a sledgehammer and make a hell of a lot of noise. A internal house wall should be breakable faster. And wooden exterior wall should take a while to do also. Should add steal walls for safes, safe rooms, etc And security bars on windows and mesh wire too
Unsaid
that is correct, and moreover - in the police station there already are some steel bars in the cells. are they destructible ?
Kurruk
I see no reason why they shouldn't be - gun shop has them destructible so police station should be no different.
