How do you guys navigate around?

Yes it is The map in PZ is pretty damned huge already, and is only going to get bigger as time goes on

Im using crappy items to drop in front of building/streets where i already was... or just follow the dead zombie trail back to your house =)

If you're insane enough to use butterknives as melee weapons on a regular basis, seeing as they break so easily, you have a large supply of breadcrumbs to deploy

 

I tend to leave rotten/burnt food on the main road outside my safehouses, makes it easier to see from a distance

Lots of bloody corpses typically mark a path back to my house. It is fairly easy to follow.

I used the pzmap when I first started, but now I basically learned the map from playing so much. You kind of just learn it as you go and remember landmarks. But if needed I do sometimes refer to the map when needed to find my bearings.

I like many others use the PZ Map. I still haven't memorised the place all that much, but I have kind of gotten used to street design and getting a general feel for the direction you are going. Knowing you're in a housing estate or knowing your heading towards the centre of town, etc.

Whenever you start a new game (or use an existing), orient yourself to the crash map.  You can then plan out your safe houses, raids and longer distance objective.

 

I recommend putting up some sort of secure bolt hole (on a second floor if you can) every few blocks.  That will give you a place to flee to, get your bearings and calm the hell down   Panicy decisions are seldom good ones.
