Trees and seasons

Every tree on the map is a pine tree.  There should be a lot of deciduous trees too. The would drop their leaves in fall (fall colors before dropping would be awesome) through winter so visibility in those forests would be much better in the fall and winter seasons. It would also be a good way to make the change of seasons visible as snow cover in the winter is not common in Kentucky and nothing else seems to show the seasons.

It would also be great if winter daylight were significantly less and summer daylight significantly more than the current default. Longer winter nights would be more realistic and also give less time for daylight foraging.  Winter is currently too easy and less light would be a step in the right direction to make it a little less easy to survive.

This seems like a pretty big job, maybe it could be added after 1.1 or something, but it doesn't seem like a high enough priority to do until most other things are done.

I agree the trees would take a lot of work.  I would guess changing the amount of daylight to be more accurate with how it actually varies with the season would not be as difficult.

Here's a quote from an older Mondoid last year. The priorities in this have most likely changed since the 1.0 declaration, but it would seem something they'd like to do:

Have you planned on what will be your next larger endeavour after NPCs and the 3D stuff is in? Or in other words, do you have somewhat a linear plan on what you will be doing in the more distant future, or is it a scramble? (Suomiboi)

TIS: We’ve obviously got a lot of plans to add new items, weapons, map additions and gameplay mechanics as we go, and we do not tend to plan for these but rather tackle things as seems an appropriate time, or if the community repeatedly requests them. The next major milestones in the game after NPCs and the new 3D engine are in, however, run as follows.
(Probably in order, and nothing set in stone).

Wilderness 2.0 – Proper trees, with canopies, river banks, hills and sloped terrain. As we add more survivalist features to the game we want to make the wilderness truly interesting and diverse.
