Bedford map issue

dradan50

Question

I've downloaded the bedford map file several times already. For some reason even though I believe I put this map file after I unzipped it in the correct project zomboid folder, the game still doesn't seem to know that I now have this new map?

I use a mac.

If someone could tell me detail by detail of exactly how your suppose to get this game to recognize that I have this new map to play with, I would greatly appreciate it.

Again I do not use a pc.

I use a mac

from around 2010.

Imac 27 inch  8GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Graphics ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024MB

Operating system, OS X 10.9.3

Installed a mod with this map. I started playing, but I ran into a problem. When you open the map with the M button, a map of the world opens, Bedford is not on this map. What to do?

Heya Dradan, I'm the Mac guy on the tech support team. I'll double check the exact steps and let you know tonight; I'm at my other job right now posting from my phone so I can't double check. If I haven't replied in 6 hours or so post again and remind me. Thanks!

Lol I can't get a map to work but yet I am studying java, eventually trying to get a java tech job. Just means to show that you can know a-lot about computers and still know very little.

Open up a new Finder window, and click on your username folder from the list on the left. Open the folder titled "Zomboid." Open the mods folder. Make a new folder within and call it whatever you want except for Example Mod. In another window, unzip the Bedford Falls file and drop that into your new folder. Launch PZ and you should be able to select Bedford Falls when making a new character.

It didn't seem to work. I put the contents of what I had already unzipped from a previous bedford falls zip file into this new folder within the mods folder. When I launched PZ through the steam service, the bedford falls map option didn't show up?

I think this is what I already did. Will try again.

Yeah I followed these detailed steps? Do I need to reset my computer in order for this to take hold?

I see in the maps folder there was also a file besides Bedford falls, listed as Muldrugh? Do I need to start a new game in Muldrugh first and then find my way to Bedford, or is Bedford suppose to appear as a completely separate map option to use?

Bedford should appear when you go to start a new game. If you've been messing with game files you may have mucked something up; it might be worthwhile to redownload the game and delete the Zomboid folder and try again. Note that this will delete your saves.

Yeah I don't feel I messed with the game files. Accept there are a few mods in my game, that I did download?

So I tried to delete this game and then re-install it. Something weird happened? So my computer is taking forever to delete these files from my trash. Secondly, It looks like the same files are where they were installed again, when I tried to play the game again (accept for the mods)? Thus in a way it looks like the game is still installed? Yet this doesn't make sense when I put it in the trash?

I don't understand why I'm having so many problems trying to get this game to recognize one new map file, when it seems so many other people had a very easy time installing this file?

Open Steam. Right click Project Zomboid. Left click Delete Local Cache, and hope that actually deletes everything.

Note that Bedford Falls includes TWO files that has to _overwrite_ existing files: Bedford Falls, KY and Muldraugh, KY. Using one or the other won't work.

In Steam, Right click Project Zomboid then go to the Local Files tab. Find the botton that takes you to Local Files. Open the app file (however you do that on a Mac). Take the \media\ folder from the Bedford Falls archive and drag and drop it. Overwrite everything at will.

That's it.

Under local files tab, I see four options. Browse Local files, backup game files, delete local game content, verify integrity of game cache. Not sure one of these I'm suppose to look at in order to open the app file? The rest of what you said I think I can follow after I know what to do after looking under local files.

Ok I went to browse local files. I then saw the project zomboid app file. When I opened it though it opened up the menu game area? Am I suppose to drop the media folder in the same location then where I see the project zomboid.app file?

Yeah still no bedford map coming up?

Just to clear things up a bit (or not):

To add a custom map to the game, in singleplayer or multiplayer, the map should be put in a mod.

If the mod folder is named MyMod and the map folder is named MyMap, then the map goes in MyMod/media/maps/MyMap.

A single mod can have more than one map folder in MyMod/media/maps.  All maps in all active mods will be shown when creating a new character.

For each map, the map.info file tells the game where to load parts of the game world from (the .lotpack and .lotheader files). It is possible to load parts of the game world from more than one directory.  So for Bedford Falls, only the Bedford Falls map can be used (by reading only from media/maps/Bedford Falls, KY) or the game can load from media/maps/Muldraugh, KY as well to join Bedford onto Muldraugh.  So map A can load map B which loads map C and so on.  The maps can be in the same mod, different mods, plus the game's own map.  You could create a mod that loads Bedford + Dreadwood + Muldraugh.

What Rathlord told you should have worked, the only thing I can think of is that you didn't activate the mod.

Oh.  I thought Rathlord gave you the ZIP file from this post.  This should set Bedford up as a mod, you just need to put the .lotheader and .lotpack files into the BedfordFalls/media/maps/BedfordFalls, KY folder.

I've tried what rathlord said to do.

Still no bedford map option coming up?

I don't completely understand this

The .lotheader and .lotpack files are from where? When I find these files, I copy them and I paste them into the Bedfordfalls/media/maps/BedfordFalls, KY folder?

Right click on it and select "Show package contents" from the menu. Open Contents. Open Java folder. Open Media folder. Put it in there. But I'm pretty sure it's not going to work that way.

So another question? There is a another map now already out? Called Dreadwood?

Where do I find this map if I would like to try it to?

Thank you

Sincerely,

Ok trying it out now. Finally see bedford listed as a mod? Not completely sure why this map file is a mod, but thank you for all of your help.

Yes now it came up as a option. It says,  this is a test though? U=BTL?

Now I don't know what U=BTL stands for, but with my own limited programming knowledge right now one equals means equals in a-lot of programming languages?

Rather than variable A == 500

== tests if a specific variable is equal to a specific value? Though I guess U=BTL does the same thing, tests to see if both of these terms equals another?

Trying to eventually get a java job or some job related to tech in the near future, lol. I guess I still have a ways to go. Right now I'm up to learning how to handle user events.

Okay so I need to be walked through this again? There was some version update to this map? Now the spawnlocation is different? Is this correct?

Question 1: Where do I specifically go to download the new version of this Bedford Falls Map file?

Question 2: I then put this media folder in a new folder I created within the mods folder (titled BedfordFalls), and put it in there?

Question 3: Then I should, when I start the game up see a Bedford map mod within the mods section (in the game menu area). I double click on this, and when I start a new game, the Bedford Map should come up as a map choice for me to use?

Download this zip file and unpack it into your mods folder, the same place Rathlord suggested.  These are the files needed to make a mod out of Bedford Falls.

Download Bedford Falls from the mod's thread.  Unpack the .lotpack and .lotheader files into the new mod's "media/maps/Bedford Falls, KY" folder.

Start the game and activate the Bedford Falls mod in the MODS screen.

Ok how do I unpack the .lotpack and .lotheader files into the new mod's media/maps/Bedford Falls KY folder?

When I downloaded the BedfordFalls V2 map file from the mod's thread (based off the link you provide me), I opened it up and did not see these .lotpack and .lotheader files included in any of the folders from the unzipped file (which when downloaded into my mac downloaded area became media?
