It might end up being like that. Moving furniture was in the game in the 1.5d+ era and simply slid, but wasn't interactable like it is now.

I myself am cool with leaving the 2d sprites on moving furniture. Plus, redesigning all the furniture in 3d would kinda suck out some of the graphical charm and kill certain players' fps.

The trouble is that zombies don't enter an area you've cleared when you're sitting on it, I think. They aren't doing anything or going anywhere until you enter a new space you haven't guarded! Also, I think what this party is feeling is that they have to go specifically drawing the zombies' attention to have problems with them. The zombies don't really stalk or follow sounds enough, so a cleared neighborhood stays that way for a very long time. It strikes them as weird and frankly looks out of place. The specific reason is that it requires a fundamental and entire rewrite of the whole game. Rather than a full 3D space that is has structural details for all possible sides of an object, Zomboid's world is a ton of tiles facing the screen that look like an isometric space.

The zombie infection might not actually be from a pathogen, since antibiotics and stuff like that are never supposed to work. The devs have explicitly stated that they want the origin of the disease to be a mystery and never revealed to be a virus/bacteria/prion/parasite/fungus/space radiation/magic spell/curse/wrath of god to punish the sinful/robot parasite/alien/nanobot whatevery-do/satanic invasion. And on-topic, I actually haven't done that yet! I may try that but it seems like it would make my games too easy.

Totally agree with that, I just thought I'd divide up the greater suggestion into more speciaized portions.

Plainly put, it's a little silly seeing all the zombies, particularly the slowest ones, tidily picking themselves back up to shamble at their prey once they fully topple over. I think it'd be less silly for those ones to crawl at you once they fall since only sprinters or chasers would have the coordination to rise again to chase you. ^^^*snuckle* i said chaser EDIT: I changed the title to More common crawlers from Less athletic shamblers, for precision and to frame it positively.
