Dead Or Alive

Yeah, even tried reinstalling my own entire game, no dice. Ah well. I'm having my server provider reinstall the server. Hopefully that will fix it.

I tried resetting the game map by deleting the map and zombie files in the server/zomboid/multiplayer folder. This might have been a mistake. The server map is reset, but completely depleted of zombies and items. I tried to run a soft reset with the fresh map, even though it didn't make much sense to me, seeing as there were hardly any map files to run the soft reset for. Turns out this causes the zombies and items to spawn, but only in the area I log in to. When I log out and in to a new location, this place will spawn as it should as well. However, when I then go back to a previously "logged-in" area the zombies are gone, but the items remain. How do I restore the items and zombies in all of the game world? EDIT: Oh, and also wanted to add - I'm using a freshly spawned character, so there should be no lingering map files from the old map.

I agree that there ought to be more variety. I do think it's a problem that women are oversexualized in games and promotional material - the Hitman ads from the Anita Sarkeesian video were particularily disturbing. But at the same time I don't believe in censoring other people's creation - you always have the choice of looking away, of finding something more suitable to your own tastes. But I guess it's hard to find something else when games which use women as 'decoration', as the video puts it, have become the very abundant norm. I've played several of the games that were mentioned in the video, including Far Cry 3 and GTA, and enjoyed them, too. But the lack of women who are there for something more substantial, something other than serving the purpose of being sex objects and accessories to the antagonist/protagonist/hero/anti-hero, it's getting rather stale, and that irks me a bit. I don't think it's necessarily a question of what gender the creator is. I believe a man can write female characters equally well if given the chance, just as women are probably more than capable of writing them uninteresting and decorative. I think what's needed are for developers in general to find more ways to tell their stories, and not rely so heavily on "cheap tricks" like these - and for gamers to speak up and make a demand for variety. So I think it's very positive that these things are debated. It allows gamers to come together and figure out what they want to see made, and developers to discover this and make it. In the end change follows the money. If there's enough support for it, there's a market for it. If there's a market for it, it will be made. As for women working in the gaming industry, I do believe it's getting there. It's becoming more and more common to see women working with making games. Which is awesome for me too, since I want to design for games. In fact, one of my favorite game story authors is industry veteran Amy Hennig. Heard of her? She wrote one of my favorite game series of all time, the Soul Reaver series. Oh, and also the Uncharted series.

This may have something to do with the recent hotfix update. That's the only recent change I know of, but I'm not sure if that could have prompted this kind of problem. If you continue to have issues please PM me and I'll do my best to help you figure out what might be causing it.

Cool work guys! Really dig those characters, they look like they came straight out of a game. Makes me want to make one as well - always loved pixel art but I never made much of it myself. EDIT: This is unrelated, but I just noticed right now that I got a title! Woo!

Since the last automated restart script was lost in the recent Hard Reset, right now the only way to restart the server is for me to manually go in and press the button. I check as often as I can, but it's not the optimal situation. However, I'm in contact with fragnet and they will look into getting a new script for the server tomorrow. If you're arranging something special like filming, I'd be more than happy to help you make sure the server is up. Just let me know in advance what time you plan on doing your thing and I'll let you know if I can be there. If you can't seem to connect even when other people seem to be able to, please contact me through PM and I'll do my best to help figure out what the problem is and find a solution.

There are places that are near-zombie free, you just need to look around for them. The zombie-count is a thing that's constantly up for debate - people have very different preferences, some want a lot of zombies, some want very few. So unfortunately there's no way to make everyone happy. Recently there were zero zombies because they were killed off very fast. Since then, the town has been overrun, so there's a lot of them right now. When the stable build is released I'll balance it further, and hopefully the spawn system will work better, so there will be a steady stream of zombies and loot, rather than just what's there upon reset.

Ping limit is new to me, and to be honest I'm not sure how to set it or change it. I'll look into it.

Server is back up, now updated to IWBUMS Build 28 I've also added some tags to this topic as I saw I had forgotten to do so earlier (oops). There's still a few things that might need testing, but you should be able to log in and play. Some players are having trouble logging in still, and if you find yourself to be one of them please let me know through private message, and I'll do my best to help you.
