Encumbrance and backpacks

Basically when wearing certain bags running speed is reduced, something like this:

 

Schoolbag: no change

Duffelbag: -10% run speed

Normal hiking bag: -15% run speed

Large hiking bag: -10% walk speed -20% run speed

 

Hiking bags and large hiking bags have internal frames made of metal that while increasing size and storage space slow you down.  I think this should be modeled in the game.

It's already functioning like that with the numbers of how much you can carry before getting encumbered. Bags make it easier to carry stuff but when you fill a bag to the brim you get encumbered. This is kind of already in the game.

IMO only when you get encumbered should you slow down. Its more pleasing to the eyes to keep the system as is

Hiking bags are already so large that just wearing one would slow you down.  This makes it so that choosing a bag is not an automatic "this bag is better than this bag".

The bag isn't what should slow you down, its the mass and weight of what you're carrying. And how you carry it.

Strength should be what determines how slow you are from wearing things, not an arbitrary this equipment has bad stats don't use it.

Not all have frames. I have some that don't have frames and they work pretty well. If they were suitcases i could see that.
