kevincalori
Hello I am working on Project Zomboid and wanted to get your thoughts on long-term survival strategies. As the game progresses; maintaining and expanding a secure base while managing resources becomes increasingly complex. I am excited about your go-to strategies for fortifying your base to keep it secure against zombie hordes and potential player raids. What specific locations do you find advantageous for building a base; and how do you manage and maintain your defenses over time? Additionally; how do you handle resource scarcity as time goes on? Do you have tips for sustainable farming or scavenging; and how do you balance gathering resources with the risks of venturing into dangerous areas? When it comes to character skills; what do you prioritize for long-term survival? Are there skills that become more crucial as the game progresses; and how do you keep your character versatile and prepared for various challenges? I have checked https://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php?/forum/17msbi-general-discussions/ discussions but still need advice . I am also interested in how you deal with the psychological toll of the game—what methods do you use to keep morale high and prevent panic or depression? If you’re playing multiplayer; how do you manage collaboration and communication to ensure effective teamwork and avoid conflicts? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to your responses!
GodHatesHaloWaypoint
Living near the giant river and a deep forest would probably be ideal for allowing convenient access to fishing and hunting. A good spot I'd suggest is the "small pump gas station" above Riverside on the road to where the map expansion in B42 will go. It's isolated and can easily provide food and easy access to fuel. It's a single pump with no roof so you'll have a clear line of sight on any approaching threats as you're fueling up. As for dealing with players I think making a hideout deep inside the forest would be the best choice to go undisturbed so long as you don't create an obvious path to follow back to your base. The only problem is getting vehicles in and out without a path. You could drive them down the side of the river fairly far in and carve a path in there to store them, but I'd recommend not connecting a direct obvious path from there to your base either. If someone follows you the only thing you'll lose is potentially the vehicle and it's contents. It'd definitely be a logging/ carpentry project to get a base like this started, but you probably won't have to worry about other people bothering you. Bonus points in you utilize Electronics to make proximity bombs and arm them inside of nearby houses and on the roads including in town. Just be sure to mark on your map where your IEDs are set so you don't fall upon your own sword. I'd strongly recommend planted IEDs on the road leading up to the gas pump. There's nothing up that road, so if anyone is coming up there they are almost definitely looking for you, let them find death instead. Sensor bombs will deal heavy damage even if the target is inside a vehicle. Passersby will get the memo that they should not be there, and with regular random checks you might net yourself some free vehicles and loot from your victims. Be advised, all proximity bombs are incendiary so don't arm them near your forest. Pipe bombs will also lacerate and burn players so badly they likely won't have enough time to bandage before they bleed out. Be sure to leave some zombies in the area to act as a quick response team to detonations. They can waste the few seconds of life the target has remaining by bogging them down before they can fully bandage. If the server runs the Gunfighter mod there are claymores and land mines which I believe are not incendiary which might be safe for use in the forest albeit difficult to find. ZombieHunter
I just play with friends but how we play 1. First days go to grocery store put all items in fridge. This ensures a bigger food supply for longer 2. Find a good base location, with premade level 2 fences. There are 2 types of fences - ones that zombies can destroy and ones that they can't or more specifically just ignore. 3. Get generator and a bunch of fridges, now bring all the food we moved in first days into base fridges. Best Fridge is the ice cream fridges at gas stations which are big freezers 4. Now start looking for radio with emergency radio station, and getting seeds \ shovels \ buckets. 5. Start setting up buckets on roof to collect rainwater and make a roof top garden. Roof top garden is best because zombies can't walk on it and destroy it. 6. Start leveling up wood working to make rain collector barrel 7. Look for cars and bring them to base to start leveling up mechanics. 8. Do other stuff now base is setup and self sufficient.
Unamelable
AGRESSIVE Strategy * Live in High-Populated area like West-Point/Muldraugh, if you are absolute phycho. You can move to Louisville. * Scavenge for all guns across Kentucky * Loot every building you across Pros * You'll never run out of food/water * You'll never run out of weapons * Better control of gas stations * Can establish several bases in all cities (easier to secure new multi-characters spawns) Cons * Forced fighting for every building can get very boring * Very high risk of dying PASSIVE Strategy * Escape into the deep wilderness where zombies never spawn * Scavenge for all loot possible, because you will not go to the cities in the future * Whenever possible use stealth, don't get too cocky Pros * Independent of non-respawnable food/water * Much more relaxed and peaceful gameplay Cons * Need to collect all tools and literature for future survival * Impossibility to have non-perishable food (cans and lids from under the cans are spawned much less often) * Incorrect base location can affect the safety of base and harvesting * You'll have to go for fuel from time to time, you need a voluminous stash of gasoline cans * Calm gameplay can get boring after a while AGRESSIVE+PASSIVE Strategy * Escape into the deep wilderness where zombies never spawn * Scavenge for all loot Pros * This method involves collecting all the loot that is possible when everything is collected. You can switch to Passive tactic. * Always possible regardless of the state of save * The ability to switch back to aggressive gameplay because you've already used the past strategy Cons * There can be serious problems with multi-characters relocation if not taken care of initially
