HeadClot
Hey everyone, I am not sure if this has been said before but what are the possibilities of open sourcing the Project Zomboid game engine for future game devs? I recently saw lemmy101 over on the Unreal Engine forums and found out that he is evaluating the Unreal engine 4 for "future options". Which is why I am curious about this. If you guys do leave your current engine behind - Please open source it if possible. Thank you,HeadClot If you want to hear my thoughts on the engine and why PZ can benefit from Unreal Click the spoiler below. Which I encourage if you are flipping out right now. First off let me get this out - I do NOT know what the Indie Stone are planning on doing. This could be for a far off future project of theirs. This could be a near future plan of Porting Project Zomboid to Unreal 4 aka Project Zomboid 3D. What I do know is that if they do make a game on unreal engine 4 then. They would have -Access to a Triple A development toolset for 19 dollars a month.Extremely Large world support via the Unreal World Composition toolset. (Try a game world Triple the size of the current game world or even bigger.)Not have to worry about the game engine and its development in house.Access to a visual shader editor and visual logic editor.Access to the best support in the games industry. EnigmaGrey
Virtually none, I imagine; they've talked about licensing it out in some manner to those who want to use it (assuming it could be decoupled from the game) in the past. lemmy101
I think if I was a betting man I'd say most people on the team would be looking for a zombie break post-zomboid , whenever that comes about. Still too early to say one way or the other though what we'd do after. Unreal definitely on our radar though after the C# binding stuff came about. re: open source we can't possibly say or promise where it goes in future. It'd be nice to do but there are a whole bunch of reasons it could never come to pass so can't say what would happen way down the line.
