Realism of living near lots of dead corpses idea

I was going to sleep in a house that had become absolutely carpetted in zombie corpses. To such an extent that you couldn't see the floor or the grass anywhere near my house.

 

The smell/presence of corpses would really really really not allow you to sleep, and also if you store water in open pots of water and rain barrels near the aforesaid zombie carpet, you would get diphtheria and have chronic diarrhea almost immediately.

 

In some way it should affect the character. This could contribute to the idea of 'solving the endgame problem by killing you before you get there' thing. maybe another way to kill the character or at least stable existence in a place harder.

 

You couldn't sail through the early game by lucking out.

 

i searched smell and disease and didn't see this anywhere. sorry if it's a rehash

I agree, but at the same time there should be a way of getting rid of the corpses, grabbing, moving, piling and then burning them.
This would be accompanied by zombies seeing the fire and being drawn into your base (or wherever the fire is)
