  1. Please add a command to teleport to players on your server for admins. Thank you. That is all.
  2. Hi there, 24/7 server is hosted at z.aro2220.com ready for your enjoyment! Please contact Aro2220 on Steam if you have any concerns or requests. I'm looking for someone to try and survive this game with. Although, if I am not around you don't have to wait for me. Feel free to play the game! We may do some special events during the game, too. This server is playing on the latest "iwillbackupmysave" beta. In order to set your game to use this version please see the official instructions here: http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/4183-iwbms-the-i-will-backup-my-save-branch/
  3. EDIT: You can change the server settings in Linux like in Sandbox mode. You have to edit the SandboxVars.lua file. If you need a reference for what the numbers are...look at the PZServerSettings.exe or whatever in windows. 1 = first option, 2 = second option on the pull down list, and so on. I was able to put on 'insane' zombie spawns, increase loot, and change zombie speed, sense of hearing and all that stuff. It all seems to work. Some things I couldn't get to work like the starting month...but anyway...super awesome!
  4. Tried it...still no file Are you running this game on your linux VPS? Command line only?
  5. Those instructions do not work. There is no projectzomboid-dedi-server.sh file to run. When I look at the old one, the only difference from that and the old server script that ran the server on the previous build is this "zombie.network.Gameserver" call. Except in build 25 it says it has no idea what that is...as if someone removed it? I'm just wondering if it's possible to get this put back in, get told of the new way of doing it, or have it explained that the linux dedi server was removed from build 25 for some reason...so I know it isn't possible.
  6. Hi, I can install build 25 onto my linux box, but it looks like the dedicated server doesn't exist (zombie.network.GameServer, command not found) I'm wondering if there is a way to run a linux dedicated server while using beta 25 (I wanted to test beta 25 with my friend and I want to use my linux server to host).

    Events

I suggest an idea where you have events that happen every random period of time (eg, every 3-6 minutes), so they are expected but not completely predictable. The events should be like fallout 1/2, oregon trail, FTL, planets! the exploration of space, and probably a number of other games where something happens where you get to decide 'what to do' and that decision determines the result. For example, in true fallout style you could have NPC characters appear just outside of view and then run up to the character to talk to them. Once they get close enough have a little pop up dialogue box that says something like, "Help there are a bunch of zombies chasing me!" to which you would have dialogue choices. 1. Get away from here! 2. I'll help you, stay behind me. 3. Kill him etc..and the results could be that 1. makes him leave and only a very small number of zombies spawn in the region. 2 will make him follow you and shoot at / fight any zombies that get too close and it generates a very large spawn of zombies and directs them towards the location of the npc...if you beat them all and the npc survives they give you some reward (random loot table that is pretty decent) 3. you kill him and get his standard loot (more of it than the reward after #2 but not as good) table but you also get a large spawn of zombies that still head for his dead corpse. In addition, your choices to these events should raise or lower various values (eg, maybe faction with some group operating in a nearby city and lowers their prices and offers better selection if you make choices that support them) which changes the game world. As the game goes on, new npc groups could appear...when the game begins, society has just crumbled which means there has been no time to form any other groups so you wouldn't expect to see some survivor rebuilding group from the next city over contacting you, or an organized group of bandits operating in the nearby mountains to exist yet. But the longer you live the more of these groups can be unlocked and with them their events which go to the pool. You'd still expect an event every 3-6 minutes but different people start to show up, and disappear. For example if there was a recurring character and at one point you decide to kill them, and succeed, I would imagine you would never see another special event from that character for the rest of that world. In this way, if there are events you really dislike (maybe because they aren't giving you what you want for the sandboxy gameplay you are currently participating in), you can probably make decisions to piss them off so they go away, or kill them, or complete whatever 'main' mission they need you to do so their sub missions disappear, too, etc. In this way people could create their own custom worlds with different levels of loot generation, difficulty, zombies, politics, etc. Really, it's a great game idea and I think you can do a lot of stuff with it. You should update the game until the core game is solid, then make a big well balanced expansion of content and gameplay and then release it as a pay for expansion pack if you need more money...then with all that money and expertise, build a version 2 of the game that uses a brand new engine that is more powerful and better, etc..and that's how legends are made.
  8. If you intend to play this game for longer than a few hours, you need to farm. Right now I find farming to be very boring. I think some stuff should be done to make it easier and more exciting. For one, I think watering plants shouldn't be required for all plants. For example, potatoes and carrots should grow no matter what...the difference is if you water and fertalize your plants etc, then you should get a larger yield. But really, you should be able to just plant plants all over the place and run around and eventually enough of them should ripen. One problem with all of this is water weighs a ton and the weight in this game isn't adding up correctly. I had a few 0.3 things and some 0.1's and a few 1.0s and maybe one item that was 3.0. Altogether I counted around 10-12 weight but my game said I had well over 20. And this isn't just a one off...it seems as though the game is not adding up weight properly. Sometimes I can have the same stuff on but for whatever reason it is counting the weight twice or three times for some items and I get to the point where 8/8 is really 3/8. That makes the stringent inventory system even worse.

    Spawn a Zombie

Is there currently a way to spawn a zombie with a mod?
  10. Can I put a mod in the /mod folder of my linux multiplayer server that lets me change the same in game settings that get changed when you create a new sandbox on single player (number of zombies, strength of zombies, infection spread rules, etc)? I realize that anything that is done client side can't be modded from the server, but surely the placement of zombies, items, item spawn chances, special events (gunshots, airplanes, etc) and so are not initially client side so possibly there is some ability to mod multiplayer right now?
  11. That would be really great...if people say the wrong thing (eg, "I'll be right back") you could trigger a zombie swarm and other fun things. Also, how else are you going to put in custom user commands? I guess with ui click menu stuff and some kind of a magic wand.
  12. Where do I find the javadocs? and as far as JD-Gui goes, how do I use it? Do I need source files or can I use the installed files from the steam version?
  13. Is there a list of functions somewhere? There was a tutorial that said something about using some program to pull all the functions out of the source code but I neither have the source code nor that program they were using (the link they gave was dead). I see some sample mods using things that modify the UI and add items to inventory...but what about a zombie? Can we create a zombie? Can we modify its stats? I know some zombies move faster than others and some are stronger than others...can we affect that? Can we direct a bunch of zombies to move to a location? Can we remove zombies? Can we create special events like anonymous gunshots and aircraft noise? Can we post text in any way other than above a specific players head? ie: Can we make a zombie say something above its head? Can we paste some words across the screen for an individual player/all players? Can we create some kind of a pop up or visual special effects? Can we change which items a player has equipped? Oh...is there a way to use the LUA script to connect to a remote mySQL database? ie: When you create a character and die with a character, it can send your results to the database which can update and be used in a website to make a 'top score' list.
  14. Thanks, I think the problem was that I didn't have an id= in my info file, and I think when I make a slight change to a file and then load PZ again, I have to go back into the mods menu and reselect my mod/restart. I got my first mod to work...lots of axes in my inventory now...
  15. I'm new to Lua and to modding in general so excuse the very basic question. In the zomboid directory there is a folder called mods. Let's say I want to create a hello world mod. I create a new folder in the mods folder called "Aro". Then what? Can I put a main.lua file in the Aro folder and it will execute just fine? Can I hide it in the Aro/test/folder/something/blah/xyz.lua and it will run that? Will it run any .lua files I have anywhere in that Aro folder, no matter the subdirectory structure or does it look for a main one that runs first, triggering all the others? When I looked at other mods I notice that they usually don't have anything in their Aro directory, but rather have a media folder and then in there have a lua folder with scripts, or sometimes a lua folder with another folder with another folder in there with another folder in there, and then some .lua scripts. Thanks
  16. Oh yes, the books will decrease your training time an incredible amount. I wouldn't even bother training before you had the proper skill book. Collecting those should be your first task.
  17. The game is too dark and your inventory isn't big enough. I have to set my gamma way up. It's so dark all the time and your field of view is really weird. Things fade way too quickly...if I was running around and I looked behind me and saw a zombie, I could look ahead and know for at least a couple seconds where that zombies position is still going to be. Also, I can navigate around a pitch black house a lot easier than in the game. I really think the gamma of the game should go up a few pegs and on top of that there should be a bar to adjust it...but really it is generally too low and makes it unplayable without increasing the gamma. It's not so much that your inventory isn't big enough that it seems like weight isn't calculated properly. There may be some kind of bug but I seem to have like 4 pounds of weight count as 12 or so sometimes...and other times when it's broken, it just fixes itself and then breaks itself at random. Something weird is going on with item weights. Also some items shouldn't weigh anything (or much less than 0.1). Some things weigh a good amount but other things are too heavy. Also, not having audio controls really sucked yesterday when I was playing with a friend who I was speaking to over mumble at the time. The in game music (took a while to figure out you can turn it off by pressing m) made him hard to hear and other in game noises get pretty loud. Would be nice to adjust levels...but I'm sure this is on the list and just hasn't happened yet since this is pretty standard.
  18. I have been thinking about it, and I do not think tool dependence is a very good thing. One of the biggest gripes i have with this game is that I can't even test out farming because I have to get a trowel each time, which is not so easy to find. Same goes for carpentry and the saw. Wouldn't hurt to find an axe too... Finding all of them, with the hammer and whatever you may need for cooking...is quite the frustration. But I don't really understand why you can't just use your fingers, rocks, and easy to find items. You may do a poor job and it might be very slow/tiring in comparison to using a proper tool...but at the very least, you can do it. At the very least you can try to plant some carrot seeds right at the start of the game by digging with your fingers. I mean you can knock down a tree with a baseball bat so I don't see why you can't do this. Tools should simply let you do things faster and more efficiently. By default you should still be able to do most things...at least at a basic level. Maybe master level farming absolutely requires a trowel and a few other tools...but at least you can grow some potatoes or something to get by on.
  19. My mod idea: Game begins, PVP off, FFA. The objective is to stay alive longer than all other players. When a player dies, they are taken off the list of 'remaining survivors' which can be viewed by all players to see the state of the current round. When there is only one survivor that has not died, the round ends. The final survivor is granted a number of points (ideally, based on what happened last game...how many players were in the game for how much of it, how long the round went on for, etc). The top 10 can be viewed in game. I would also like it if I could get the same controls we have for changing the game world in multiplayer as we do in single player. I would increase the zombie difficulty, maybe decrease the disease rate, and most certainly drastically increase the loot rate since it is way too low right now. I would also like to increase the skill gain rate a little bit. If the map alternated between the two cities that came with the game, that would be just fine. Even if it was always the same map that would be okay....but resetting means that all the items come back and people get a fair chance to build up their defenses / find a nice quiet spot. Plus all the zombies are back.
  20. This game absolutely needs npcs. It also needs the ability to make mods with ai scripts for npcs, daily special events with % chance to happen that we can adjust... Add more icons so we can add more weapons/armor. It would be nice if each map maker could create their own set of weapons/armor providing they are not changing any of the models, and just renaming the weapons and changing their stats. But really...npcs would add a new dimension to this game. Right now you want to survive...so all you do is basically hide in a corner...except you run out of food and water so you have to move around a little, but not at first! So the first bit of the game is, if you are playing to win, a very slow part of the game. If I could, I would make the whole city filled with npcs that were doing their jobs and living their little lives. At the start of the game, the first night, (so you have until then to check everything out in peaceful land) a bunch of zombies are spawned near some npc. They shuffle over to him and kill him...now he's a zombie spawn. And so on until the entire map is full of zombie spawns like the map starts with now. This also gives players a break to build up stats by working professions in the town, protecting from the early zombie waves which can actually be stopped, and so on. You basically get to enjoy the transition of living a 'normal life' to 'the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse' from having to get to work on time, to getting desperate to find clean water. Honestly, I really think this game is amazing. Take the money from this and create a really good npc expansion and then release it as a DLC and charge another $15 for it. If you make the game moddable, it could be huge. There are so many people out there who want to make levels, missions, etc. And unlike minecraft and terraria and those kinds of semi-survival games, this game isn't intended to last forever and ever....so you can actually design a game that is meant to last 4 hours or so. eg., make a very hard game with special timed events and lots of escalation...but make it so if you survive for 4 hours and then make it to an escape point, you win! Those games are very fun, too.
  21. Server is up as of 5:04pm EST 04-Mar-2014. Just put in that ip and connect. Everything should be open for you!
