The ability to throw a rock to distract zombies could be useful, also what could be interesting would be crafting them into simple tools. Perhaps with an added skill which determines how good they are. Like a stone axe built by early on would be fragile and cause less far damage, you could only chop down like 4-5 trees. A late game axe would be almost as good but not as durable as a normal axe. Other tools would be a knife and a hammer. Of course these tools in their best state would be much worse then their industrial metal counterparts. Rocks could be generated in the forrest. Your thoughts
