  2. You read WWZ? How about the zed that dug in the desert for 5 days straight, never getting anywhere because the sand would fill in the hole, looking for a mole that was probably long gone... Generally speaking zeds are very binary. They are either attacking prey, or they aren't. They don't normally have a 'I think I heard something' period.
  3. You can already grow on roofs. Sandbag, fill with earth, dump on roof, plant in it. I couldn't figure out if this was a suggestion and you didn't know if you could do that, or if you are trying to tell other people that you can.
  4. I was reading this and I came up with an idea of a tiered energy system. For starts you would be able to build a car battery bank, made of 3-5 battery's. This would have a life span of a day or so powering something before it ran out. With the addition of a trolley (they type UPS guys use to move boxes) you would have a portable battery bank that you could push around. With the addition of jumper cables this could be used as a arch welder, which would quickly drain the battery's, but could be used to make steel items (or apply steel to already built wood items to reinforce then) such as fences, door etc. It could also be used in the construction of other more advanced electricticity making items. The bike generator could be make from, say, a bike, a few planks and nails, a fan belt and an alternater. It would very slowly put charge back into a battery bank. Not fast enough to power anything, but fast enough that if the a battery bank was being used as a welder you would slowly be able to accomplish your project over a few days. Your next project could be a small wind turbine, constructed from a radiator fan, an alternater, scrap metal and would require a welder to make. It would also put out a small amount of electrict, similar to the amount that the bike put out, but a constant supply of it, instead of just when you where using the bike. The wind turbine would create enough electricity to power a few light constantly, anything larger would slowly drain the battery. Now that you have a more reliable renewable energy that doesn't require direct effort to produce, you would be abl to make some larger products. The next project on your tier tree could be a wood gasifier (read my post on it if you are unsure of what they are) which would require more welds then the turbine. It would also require 2 44gl drums (which could only be moved one at a time, and would be visibly carried by the character, slowin them down and reducing visibility), steel pipes (note the plural), a small motor (lawn mower) and an alternator. This would require many days of charging the battery bank to complete the welds (which wouldn't have to be done all at once - a project could be half welded, the bank die, and then days later when the bank was recharged, work could continue), and would also require a fairly decent amount of wood (x2 wood per hour? One to burn, one to gasify a can't remember the current burn rate for wood, but double that). The up side to this would be that your new generator would be able to power a few things constantly, such as a fridge and a few light AND charge your battery bank. The down side would be the noise (which could maybe be muffled with some additional items, or purchase a new exhaust could be a weld able item) There is obviously a lot more that would need to go into this, as well as a few more 'project' that you could built to make to undertaking desirable, but you get the idea - the tl dr; you could slowly create more and more constant electricty, a key item in doing so would be the previous creation of electricty. Other projects: electrict fence, metal walls and doors, repair cars, large gates (car entrance), watch tower (?), more durabel tools/tool repair, cages. Anyone else got any ideas?
  5. Just an FYI, the type of fuel used in a flame thrower isn't a gas. That would just give you a big ball of flame that wouldn't really do Anything (not hot enough and around long enough to set something on fire). Flame throwers use a fuel mixture that is a liquid so it splashes onto the target, sticks to it and continues to burn.
  6. Eh. I just tried to find the most simplistic and basic demonstration. It's really just 'clean casing, remove old primer, replace primer, fill round, cap round' rinse repeat. If you found a press, there would be book near by that showed the process. That said I feel that everything is pretty self explanatory, except for the amount of powder, which would be pretty easy to figure out (in a survival situation) thro trial and error (starting small and working up of course) I also don't think it would be that big of a reach to think that someone is a zed situation would make the connection of 'I need more ammo for my gun, I wonder how they make it, I'll raid a gun shop and see how they do it, oh there's a book on it'
  7. The bag you are describing sounds a lot like the old soviet kitbags and the way that they tie up. Maybe try searching them and you might find a name for the style of bag to refine your search.
  8. Just a point, there is plent of evidence on many different zombie lore of zeds 'signaling' other zeds when they detect prey. This is normally the zed stopping and moaning loudly before engaging the survivor. Whether they are actively calling other zeds or just making a noise because they seen something and the other zeds are simply responding to their noise is debatable.
  9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzsZsn-DurY Do you really think that you couldn't do that?
  10. Well given that the game has a gun shop which, unless gun shops are set up differently in the states, would have a press, primers and powders. Most presses also measure the amount of powder required, so it's not really that difficult. There does seems to be a bit of a mind set on this forum that anythin more then duct taping a knife to a stick, or putting a nail through some wood, is out of the reach of the common man.
  11. Sorry mate , but there is a grammatical error or something in that and I'm just not getting the question. If it's what I think it is, yes a gasifier will also run Diesel engines as well.
  12. Doesnt have to be a ute . Tho in all seriousness yeah a pickup would be the best option. I was more thinking about it being used to generate electricity when coupled with an alternator out of a car. The type of combustion engines you would find in a rural town would be perfect - think pump motors, tractors, mowers, mixers etc etc etc. They would take very little work to hook to your gasifier. On the cruding of the engine topic tho, they actually run cleaner (for the environment) then running your engine with petrol and if you simply bubble the gas up through water there is very little problem with fouling the engine, especially if you use charcoal instead of wood.
  13. This might be a little preemptive, but since it seems exceptionally likely that we will be able to have generators and/or vehicles in the future, I want to suggest being able to use a wood gasifier as an alternative to petrol. For those that don't know what that is, it is basically extracting gas from wood via heating, which can then be used in combustion engines (or heating etc etc) The process for doing this is very simple and well within the reach of the common man. Wood gas was used before natural gas to heat homes and the like. It was also exceptional common during the petrol shortages of WWII for people to construct them at home to be used to power their cars instead of petrol. They are still made and used all over the world today in many different situations. The basics behind constructing a wood gasifier are: A large container that can be opened and shut (think a 44Gl drum) with a one way valve leading from it. This is placed over a fire, filled with wood (or sawdust, coal or even rubber). The outlet of the one way valve is then ran through some piping to allow it to cool, then a filter (optional) and finally into the carburetor of the engine. What happens is as the wood is heated, it releases hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which then pass thought the pipe, the filter and into the engine to be burnt in the combustion chamber as a petrol replacement. Now as I said, these are an very easy thing to construct by the average man, and in fact, were constructed, en mass, by the average man during times of need. They could be used to fuel a small engine which then runs an generator to provide electricity, or even (as they historically were) hooked directly onto a car to provide a fuel alternative. Some links: Wood Gas = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood_gas Wood Gasifier = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood_gas_generator A small simple gasifier to show how they work = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mgu9BdHeUYg Wood gasifier used to power lawn mower engine = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F258s13UxfY Example of what can be done with a gasifier = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYGKn12Weu4 How to build a gasifier = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDIiEjL5eGM
  14. Alternater+Radiator Fan+Car battery+Wires+Car Headlights=Light system. That is literally all that's needed. Also, an inverter is what the solar panels on your house already hook into. Doubleplusalso, May start a new topic on this, but we should be able to power generators with wood gas as a replacement for petrol. That's just wood inside a drum, which is then heated by more wood. This creates gas that can be directly piped onto the fuel intake on any normal petrol engine. Again a VERY simple creation. They were used by every day people during the wars in the face of fuel shortages.
  15. Once again, if it's not included simply because it's not THE most optimum weapon, let's take out the forks, spoons, butterknives etc etc etc.
  16. And if I found a broom before a found anything else I would use that too. Sharpen the end up and aim for the eye socket. The point I'm trying to make is that the things you can find are meant to be a random cross section of things that you would find. Swords, replicas or battle ready, are things (with different likely hoods) that you would find. The loot is random. Sometimes you find a gun right away, sometimes you don't. Sometimes an axe is your first weapon, sometimes you make do with a spoon until you find something better. If we aren't putting a sword (even replicas) in, simply because they aren't the most optimum and durable weapon, we may as well take out everything except the best one. Also on the likely hood, a quick google tells me there are 71 sword swallowers in Muldraugh, as well as the ability to take Chineese sword dancing classes.
  17. How come? At their not simplistic they are just something that floats. Giving that they would probably be working on a river, they could just be a raft, a.k.a anything that floats.
  18. They are longer. Also because realistically they are something I might find, they might be something that I find before anything else.
  19. A wind turbine can be as simple as the alternator out of car, with some blades attached, hooked to a bank car batteries. It most definitely IS within the grasp of pretty much anyone with non-zombified braincells. It is one of the single simplest things to construct. My dad (a concreter by trade) and myself made one when I was a kid, with nothing more then car parts, that hung over our shed to power the lights. It worked with next to no maintenance for over 15 years.
  20. The ability to weld metal together to make metal walls, door etc etc definitely needs to be added. A welder, be it MiG or arc are not a hard thing to find. Its not uncommon for the average joe to have a small mig welder in their shed, while any kind of industrial building would almost definitely have one or the other. Finally in a pinch, you can use a truck battery, jumper cables and some welding rods to get it done.
  21. I know which one I'd pick, too. None of the above. I'd rather just run for it or, if I really had to fight, just push the zed down and kick it in the neck with my steel toe boots until it couldn't move anymore. Unless it's one of those old cast iron frying pans. Those things are heavy as hell. I could see myself breaking a skull with one of them. You're severely overestimating the durability of replica swords. I once broke one on a stick while testing to see how much punishment it could take. A regular old stick I found in the woods. The metal of the blade bent out of shape after fifteen minutes of testing, and that was just against sticks and branches. When I tried to bend it back into place with some tools it shattered. You'd get maybe one kill out of a replica sword before it got bent out of shape or cracked in half while breaking the zed's skull and that'd be it. Not worth picking up and carrying around. If anything I'd probably just smash them into pieces on purpose and shape the fragments into spear heads, arrow heads, and knife blades for use as a cheap tool. That's the only conceivable reason I'd think for having replica swords in the game. Except maybe for the relative glee I'd get from watching new players try to take on a zombie horde with their "Badass" Katanaâ„¢ and dying horribly because of their shitty choice in weapon. All that said, though, if there's one sword weapon I'd actually think should be allowed in the game, it would be a civil war era cavalry saber. Rather rare, but unlike all the other sword types it's the only one to have any sort of historical significance in America and thus could logically be found. I doubt they'd have the punch necessary to kill a zombie outright, but they'd definitely be more durable than a replica. Would be a good anti-survivor weapon if it came down to melee vs melee. .... So I couldnt just poke zeds in the eye socket? Because its a 'sword' i have to weild it like one? Also, you instead of picking any weapon, even one with only a few uses, you would go unarmed? Seems like a surefire way to get bit. But the point I was making was that we can wield a fork, spoon or butter knife ingame, why not use a replica sword? I feel they would be more battle worthy then any of those items, with some additional reach. And yeah, I know exactly how crappy the display models can be, but I was suggesting the LARP ones that are designed to actually be smashed onto other peoples armour. The one my mate owns only cost him a few hundred dollars, and I was able to wail that into his chest plate for a while without damaging it.
  22. Isnt that why most games have that 'adjust untill so and so image is not visiable' when you first start playing them?
  23. You offer me a fork, spoon, frying pan and a LARP sword to take on zed, and I know which one I would pick..... Also, crowbars break in the game, something that my 15 year old bar would never do, so I dont see any reason why a sword that can break is out of place. Also, I just dont see why something like LARP swords wouldnt be in it also. A whole bunch of crappy replicas, and a chance, at a certain location, to find a real one. Would add some variance to the MP so that the people I see aren't always wielding that same weapons. Would be interesting to bump into that one guy who raided the antique weapons store and came out with some medieval armour and a real sword, instead of 'guy with pistol and fire axe'
  24. Balling your hands to make a fist is creating a tool. It required the knowledge that a fist will do more damage then a palm. Trying to break through a door instead of just through the wall requires the knowledge that the door will break easier and is a 'logical entry point'. Remembering that prey just ran around the corner and you should follow it, even tho its no longer in sight and not a stimuli, implies memory. Its not much a a stretch from making fist > picking up rock.
  25. Yeah I'm gunnna call 'bullshit' on there not being swords. I am a person completely disinterested in swords, and I know 3 people who have battle ready swords and amour. There are more then enough geeks in the world who partake in reenactments to have a few sword laying around in any decent sized town.
