making veg map, not working

Hello, I have done some searching and have not found any solutions to my question. IF there is one out there I am sorry for the repeative question.

 

I am trying to make a map using this awesome guide:

When making a veg map, after finishing my  first one in paint.net I get different results than what is shown in the guide. It's hard to understand this guide since it is very vague at times.

why is that?

 

Note: I use paint.net to make maps, I am just using photoshop as a preview.

The example was generated with mapzoid

If you want to draw your own map into the map tools you don't use mapzoid. Also for creating a map you need 2 files the .png and the _veg.png. Try if you can have better results with this. It's slightly outdated, but the system should work.

Thank you for your help, your link provides a much more clearer understand as to how to draw the maps. I did not use layers, so that was my problem.
