Planning to buy the game but...

Recommended Posts

Hello there.

I am planning to buy the game so the first thing I do when I want to buy an open-world multiplayer game like this (and I am a fan of zombie games), is to take a look at what's happening in the development scene of the game, so the forums are the best place to take a look.

The game looks fun on youtube but I have not found the streaming channel of this game on Twitch, which means it is not very popular there I guess despite the game being very unique and original, possibly very fun, which is surprising and I wonder if the marketing of the game is a reflex of the development of the game or just unrelated.

So far I've come across this section of the forums as the most viewed and with the most discussions going on, so I hope I can please get a reply here to my questions below:

-What are the plans for the game? In other words, is there a roadmap available?

-Is the game updated often to solve bugs or are all the versions generally stable and without follow-up patches?

-When will the game be officially released?

-Is it worth buying the game or waiting for the official release of the game?

If anyone can help me with these questions I will be very glad. I am sure other people coming later to join this forum are gonna find some of the questions and answers in this discussion thread useful to read.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

Unrelated. While PZ isn't consistenly popular on twitch as with the dominating games that are always there that people play consistently with tournaments etc.., it has done extremely well, even in just the last 30 days: https://sullygnome.com/game/Project_Zomboid/30/summary

I would say it's a bit unreasonable to expect it to be consistently popular, but for the times it is, it really takes off. People dip in and out of the game every so often, which is understandable for an indie zombie survival game.

Game Plans

- The plans are here: https://projectzomboid.com/blog/news/2022/01/2022-and-beyond/

That blog lists it in much better format than I could.

The general roadmap from that blog is this: https://projectzomboid.com/blog/news/2022/01/2022-and-beyond/

Game Updates

- It currently is on Build 41, which is fully stable and considered complete at this point. While we're aware of bugs in it still, we have release numerous unstable patches since it's initial public testing release which you can see here, as well as all other previous updates and time-frames between major updates, and between public testing bugfixes and features: https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Build_41

We are currently fully hands on Build 42, where numerous of Build 41's current bugs have already been fixed and new bigger features are being implemented and refined. I hope you understand the logic, where updating Build 41 along with this would be double the work than focusing fully on the next build at the moment. We have completed Build 41 to where we are satisfied it is fully playable without major bugs.

Animals are the main features, but there's lots more detail to those than "just animals" and numerous other features than just that, of course that it'll include that you can keep up with in our blogs we post bi-weekly on Thursdays on the website I linked above. Build 41 will receive no more further updates on its stable branch as such, and the next release will be Build 42 in public testing release when we consider it playable for the majority of players.

Release Date

- We don't give ETAs on any releases.

Worth Buying

- If you are hesitant on buying an EA game because of it not being completed, I would not recommend doing so. While we are absolutely fully dedicated to delivering the final product, EA is specifically for people who want to support the game as it exactly is the time you buy it, with the risk of no further updates occurring. I'm not saying that would ever happen with this game, but that is the best general rule with any Early Access game you're unsure of purchasing.

The game is becoming more and more popular and it can only be more popular with what devs intend to add, it's probably going to be the best zombie apocalypse sandbox game ever made.

Updates are not frequent, especially the big ones but after a big one then updates become more frequent to fix bugs, balance stuff..., check this: https://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php?/forum/35-pz-updates/page/2/&sortby=start_date&sortdirection=desc

Hopefully it'll never be officially released so we keep getting free content :)

Yes it's worth buying, even if it's not finished it is more complete than most released games, so you won't risk anything by buying it right now. Sure there is still some pretty annoying bugs and some features in need of work (nothing really game breaking, don't worry) but so far devs never gave up and you can feel that they love their game and will work on it until they're fully satisfied with it.

Thank you so much for the information and I appreciate the objective details.

I consider buying the game indeed. Just need to start a Steam account. I only have Epic games installed. Thanks!

No problem. :)

Also remember if you are purchasing it, you can avail of Steam's refund policy within either two of these conditions:

  • Less than two hours played
  • Owned for less than two weeks

Thank you! This game has an enormous amount of potential. It's one of those games that, if everything continues going the way it is, will be very addictive to play. Especially for an early-access game that does seem to offer so much variety. This game can easily have even more variety, items, and different systems to deal with loot (crafting, selling/buying, dismantling) and more types of loot. The lore, the missions, and the modes are interesting to see, I wonder how much better can it get. There is nothing like this in the market. Cant wait for the official version to be released.
