Veteran as a trait not a profession

Veteran as profession never really made any sense to me, you can be an electrician or retail worker and be a veteran , so my suggestion is simple eliminate veteran as profession and turn it into a trait that maybe gives the desensitized and starting aim of the veteran profession. This old profession could then be turned into a active duty army/soldier profession or something else. I could understand maybe the reluctance of indiestone to add an active military role before fort knox is implemented, but you could be a soldier that was sent home on leave and then was unable to report back due to the lockdown.

As I see this it's more like "seasoned soldier". Veteran is maybe the wrong wording but makes clear what is meant by it - "active duty and seen real combat", I assume.
