  1. So far it's working out. I finished the first catwalk along the north wall and I'm starting construction on the catwalk in the SE corner. I've walked across it several times and haven't experienced any bugs (I've been reading all these horror stories about players falling through their constructed stairs and floors to their deaths). I went ahead and fully barricaded all the first floor doors and windows, and added a sheetrope to the 2nd floor window in the NE corner. Once I get the catwalk completed in the SE corner I'll put a sheetrope there. Either that or I will just knock out a couple walls on the roof and add windows/sheetropes there instead.
  2. I managed to find two big hiking bags on some dead zombies. I will start using those for log collection, and I started constructing the catwalks in the warehouse as suggested by plastic. In the meantime, I killed this horde ... with an axe. Awesome.
  3. Long term, you'll have to farm as food will run out eventually. In the meantime, the above advice to make soup is very good. You can really stretch your food out that way. Stockpile all the chips, soda, canned goods, and other non-perishables you can. Don't be afraid to eat the dogfood if you have to.
  4. Bug: changing resolutions while in-game seems to cause the application to stop responding. Tested this twice. Work-around: only change resolution on title screen. I got myself into a little pickle by doing this when I switched it to 1280x800, because the game crashed, and then when I loaded it back up the options button wasn't visible on screen so I couldn't click it. I was able to manually change the resolution back to 1280x960 in the options.ini file. Seems weird that 1280x800 leaves some buttons off screen and a black bar on the right side of the screen, since 1280x800 matches the aspect ratio of my 1680x1050 monitor. I tested performance in the recommended resolution of 1280x720 but I didn't notice a difference, so I'm switching back to 1280x960. I'll post this in the bug forum as well, which is probably where it actually belongs.
  5. Hahaha. I had the "black screen but UI visible" thing at first, but loading in safe mode, saving the game, and then switching back fixed my problem. Give that a shot. Safe mode is good and all but I love being able to zoom in and out.
  6. I just got the beta build working and right away I can tell there is a HUGE performance boost. The game is way smoother. Previously when my character walked it seemed like he was moving painfully slow, but now everything is much quicker with less stuttering. I had a minor problem in that after my save converted and loaded, all I could see was a black screen but I could hear sound effects, see my inventory, character window, etc. I loaded in safe mode which fixed the problem, and then saving in safe mode and loading the save again in non-safe mode fixed the problem. I am running the game with fps locked to 30, lighting set to low, and resolution 1280x960. Here's my specs: Operating System: Windows Vistaâ„¢ Ultimate (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.120824-0336) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. 7. It is hard and unforgiving but that is part of what makes it fun. 2.5 months is really good, congrats. Next time be careful about bushes, trees, tall grass, bathrooms, closets, and making tight turns around corners. It is easy to get caught by a zombie that you didn't see.
  8. I'm sure that he will see the error in his ways eventually. lol
  9. That clears that up. Thanks! In more ways than one, perhaps . . . LOL. I am amused. Thanks. It's spelled "combustible", though.
  10. There is no cure. You will die from it eventually, but I have read that you can prolong your life if you eat food constantly and keep the "very well fed" buff. Theoretically, you could stay alive indefinitely, but it would be hard to find that much food and stay on top of eating it constantly.
  11. Seems like everyone has a nifty member title but it doesn't look like the option to edit that is enabled by default. "Advanced member" is just so ... boring. "tiny exploding alien" sounds about right.
  12. Ah, I get it. The OP didn't explain it very well, but this was helpful: http://steamcommunity.com/app/108600/discussions/0/648811126626643581/ I tried this on the beta tab the other night but it didn't trigger a download. Looks like I need to set it and then restart steam as per the instructions in the guide. I'll try this tonight or tomorrow night when I get a chance to play again. If someone could edit the OP to include that link, it might clear up some confusion. Thanks folks. Edit: now seeing the post where Enigma explained this to me literally just minutes ago. Thanks mate. I'm not refreshing this thread fast enough to keep up with you.
  13. This got lost at the end of the 4th page so I'm just bumping it in hopes of an explanation. If there's a beta version that is different from the one that Steam installs by default, I'd like to load it up so I can help with testing and also see if the performance tweaks make a difference for me.
  14. Wait, I'm confused. So there are multiple versions available on Steam currently? How long has that been the case? I was trying to figure out if there was a beta on Steam and how to access it the other night, but I don't think I did it right.
  15. For what it's worth, I found out about the game last week from Steam, bought it on Steam, and then started posting on this forum, instead of defaulting to the Steam forum. Less work for you! You're welcome.
  16. I was, actually. I liked the way your setup looked. Yeah, getting wood is a pain. I will keep an eye out for the berries. I found two shotguns and over 60 shells so far inside the warehouse. Bonus!
  17. I haven't had this happen to me yet so hopefully it was fixed. I havent made my own stairs yet though, if that's what you mean. Thanks for the screenshots plastic, I will use them for some inspiration. The catwalks are a genius idea. Ill post a progress update in a couple of days after I get a chance to play some more.
  18. Long term, the fridge doesn't matter since the perishable food will rot and then the electricity will get turned off.
  19. Thanks for the tips. Plastic, would definitely like to see screens of your setup. I've set up the house immediately to the SE as a backup safehouse and I'm keeping stuff in the fridge there:
  20. It occurs to me that the warehouse has no fridge which is definitely a downside in the short-term game.

  22. Got bored, started a new game. This is where I'm at: I spawned in a house near Cortman medical and basically booked it for the large warehouse. I killed a few zombies on the way, had a couple of close calls, but mostly I just kept running and didn't look back as I had a horde following me once or twice. Things got quiet once I got to the warehouse around nightfall, and I was able to get inside with no alarm. Had a bag of chips, some water from the fountain, and slept on the couch. Woke up at 4:30am and took a brief stroll around the outside of the warehouse to kill some zombies with my frying pan. The perimeter looks clear and now I'm free to start looting boxes and using the supplies inside. One of the first items I found was a fireaxe, woohoo. Also got a pistol, 10 9mm rounds, and a normal hiking bag from some zombies in the warehouse office. So what I do now? My plan is to set this up as a safehouse; I saw a screenshot of someone else's layout and it looked pretty good. The long-term plan is to barricade all the first-floor doors and windows and use sheetrope ladders for entering and exiting. I should be able to put rain collection barrels on the roof and make a little garden in the grass on the south side of the building. Thing is I'm going to need lots of sheets and planks to cover and board windows, as well as make the aforementioned sheetropes. Anybody have any advice? I will probably need to go on some loot runs for supplies. One question I have is, if I manage to find a sledgehammer and use it to destroy the boxes in the warehouse, will that give me planks? If you've got any advice, or just a congrats for getting to the warehouse in record time, thanks in advance.
