Unfortunately that might mean that the connection between you and your friend is just too bad, as the game will disconnect you if it takes way too long to load the map. This can be affected by your connection to the server, it can be affected if you have a slow hard drive or if the server has a slow hard drive. And it can be affected by an antivirus constantly checking the server files being downloaded, which usually goes hand in hand with the other issues.
This means that I don't really have anything I can recommend other than trying to improve the connection between you two / shut off any background programs to give priority to the game.

Does it only happen on a specific server? Have you tried any other servers? And is your internet connection or the connection to the specific server fast enough?

Well, could you try it on a public server? It is very likely that there are connection problems either on your end on your friends end. If the connection between you two is not stable then there will be connection issues.
