I have done some testing, and I have to conclude that it seems to be an issue with the latest drivers as you said yourself.
Therefore I can only suggest to wait for the next driver version to see if it will be fixed then.

In the meantime, I have found a workaround, by switching the Mesa driver to use Zink instead of the default OpenGL rendered, it seems to have fixed it for me.

To do that, go to your Steam Library > Right click Project Zomboid > Properties > Set Launch Options > Type MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink %command% > Start the game
  2. Beard's post in Project Zomboid not launching when clicking play on Steam, through both launch options was marked as the answer
Interesting, in that case, go to “C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid” and delete everything there except the “Saves” folder.
    Then see if that helps.

If it does not, try disabling the external monitor and use your laptop screen as a test to see if the game launches, this would give us more info as to what the exact problem is.

In this case, try doing a full reinstall.

First, uninstall the game, then go to "Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid" and make sure there are no leftover files or folders there.
After that, go to “C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid” and delete everything there except the “Saves” folder.
Then just install the game again and see if that helps.
  4. Beard's post in Game wont load properly was marked as the answer
Try going to the C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid folder and edit the options.ini file.
In that file, edit the fullscreen=true line to fullscreen=false
Then try launching the game again.

In that case, can you check the Windows Reliability monitor for any ProjectZomboid application crashes there? If you do find any, can you share a screenshot of the Technical Details section so we can check the errors that show up there?

  6. Beard's post in trying steam connection was marked as the answer
Steam's servers were having issues, which has affected the connections on Project Zomboid. The issue should be solved as of this moment.
